Background Understanding the mental health needs of healthcare workers during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic with a view of mitigating its impact on occupational functioning is ...vital.Aim To determine the prevalence and correlates of psychological distress amongst healthcare workers.Setting The study was carried out in Nigeria during COVID-19 pandemic.Methods A cross-sectional quantitative study using a convenience sample was conducted amongst healthcare workers. The survey comprised of two Google formatted self-report questionnaires, a 12-item General Health Questionnaire and a questionnaire containing socio-demographic, work related and knowledge of COVID-19 variables. Questionnaires were distributed via closed professional WhatsApp platforms. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test and logistic regression.Results There were 313 respondents and prevalence of psychological distress was 47.0%. Females were almost twice as likely to have psychological distress as males (OR = 1.92, 95% CI: 1.21–3.04, p = 0.006). Healthcare workers who had no contact with COVID-19 positive patients had an 87% reduced risk of psychological distress (OR = 0.13, 95%CI: 0.23–0.25, p = 0.018) compared with those who had contact with COVID-19 positive patients. Healthcare workers with poor knowledge of COVID-19 had a 44% reduced risk of psychological distress compared with those with good knowledge (OR = 0.56, 95% CI: 0.34–0.93, p = 0.025).Conclusion Findings revealed that healthcare workers in Nigeria reported psychological distress during COVID-19 pandemic. Greater risk was amongst females and those who had contact with COVID-19 positive patients whilst poor knowledge was protective.

Secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) is one of innate immunity proteins that can inhibit the activation of macrophages. We are expecting the provision of SLPI can decrease excessive inflammatory response in healing after tooth extraction. This study was to investigate the administration of SLPI on cellular expression of NF-Kβ and IL-1β on wound macrophages of Rattus novergicus post tooth extraction. The research design is in vivo experimental study. In total, 20 rats were randomly divided into four groups (each group n=5) and underwent tooth extraction on left incisor teeth of mandible. One of the groups did not receive SLPI administration (control group) and the socket was stitched after tooth extraction. Meanwhile, the remaining three groups (experimental groups) were given SLPI administration after tooth extraction with three different doses (0.1 µM, 0.5 µM and 2.5 µM, respectively). After SLPI administration, the socket of experimental groups was stitched. The effects of SLPI administration were evaluated by counting at the percentage of NF-Kβ translocation and the expression of expression of IL-1 in macrophages cells of the rat socket using immunohistochemistry analysis. The cellular expression of NF-Kβ and IL-1β were significantly decreased (p < 0.05) on groups with SLPI may decrease cellular expression of NF-Kβ and IL-1β on wound macrophages cells of rats post tooth extraction in a dosedependent manner.

September 2021 at Kuwait Teaching Hospital, Peshawar. The genomic DNA was extracted from lymphocytes and PCR was performed for identification of ACE I/D polymorphism.
Total 181 individuals (121 Hypertensive and 60 normal) were enrolled in the study. The measured systolic and diastolic BP in cases were 153.91mmHg±12.65 and 92.94mmHg±5.72, respectively while in control were 118.20±17.13 and 74.12mmHg±7.58, respectively. The Deletion Homozygous (DD), Insertion Homozygous (II) and Deletion and Insertion Heterozygous (DI) genotypes in hypertensive patients were 47 (38.84%), 17 (14.04%) and 57 (47.10%) respectively while in Control group the DD, II and DI were 4 (6.66%), 25 (41.66%) and 31 (51.66%) respectively. This study showed association of DD genotypes of the ACE gene with hypertension as compared to healthy individuals.
Individuals with DD genotype may have association with hypertension. polymorphism of ACE gene was proved to be an important genetic marker for essential hypertension in Patients of KPK.
We introduce a new class of lifetime models called the transmuted powered moment exponential distribution. More specifically, the transmuted powered moment exponential distribution covers several new ...distributions. Survival analysis including survival function, hazard rate function and other related measures are computed. Analytical expressions for various mathematical properties of TPMED including rth moment, quantile function, inequality measures, and parameters are estimated by using maximum likelihood estimation and order statistics are also derived. A simulation study of the proposed distribution is performed. It is discovered that the Maximum Likelihood Estimators are consistent since the bias and Mean Square Error approach to zero when the sample size increases. The usefulness of the model associated with this distribution is illustrated by two real data sets and the new model provides a better fit than the models provided in literature.
In this research paper, a new life time family is introduced. Sadaf 1 proposed a moment exponential power series (MEPS) distribution. Generalized moment exponential power series (GMEPS) distribution ...is a general form of MEPS distribution. It is characterized by compounding GME distribution and power series (PS) distribution. This new family has some new sub models such as GME geometric distribution, GME Poisson (GMEP) distribution, GME logarithmic (GMEL) distribution and GME binomial (GMEB) distribution. We provide statistical properties of GMEPS family of distributions. We find here expression of quantile function based on Lambert W function, the density function of rth order statistic and moments of GMEPS distribution. Descriptive expressions of Shannon entropy and Rényi entropy of new general model are found. We provide special sub-models of the GMEPS family of distributions. The maximum likelihood (ML) estimation method is used to find estimates of the parameters of GMEPS distribution. Simulation study is carried out to check the convergence of new estimators. We apply GMEPS family of distributions on two sets of real data.
