Over the last decade, language learning with digital technology in general, and mobile technology in particular, has received significant attention in both research and practice. This is mostly ...attributed to the learning-enabling aspects of mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) on the one hand, and the rapid development of hardware (mobile devices) and software (mobile applications) on the other. MALL offers the opportunity to use mobile devices for learning not only within the confines of the language classroom, but also outside it, making it particularly relevant for the implementation of distance learning. This paper examines latest practices concerning the implementation of MALL into the teaching and learning process by reviewing relevant literature from the field, with particular focus on designated mobile applications for language learning. The literature review, which identified 17 relevant publications over the period of roughly two and a half years (between January 2020 and April 2022), codes educational interventions described therein in terms of the context of language learning and the effects of introducing mobile technology into language classes. The results of the review reveal significant diversity in mobile applications employed for language learning, pedagogical approaches that underlie educational interventions, teacher roles, and positive effects for language learners, which may prove useful to language practitioners when organising language classes that include mobile technology.
Tijekom posljednjeg desetljeća, učenje jezika pomoću digitalne tehnologije općenito, ali i pomoćumobilnih tehnologija posebno, dobilo je značajnu pozornost u istraživanjima i praksi. S jedne straneza to su zaslužni pozitivni aspekti koji se pripisuju učenju jezika pomoću mobilne tehnologije, dok sus druge strane tome uzrok brz razvoj računalne opreme (mobilnih uređaja) te računalnih programa(mobilnih aplikacija). Mobilno učenje jezika nudi priliku za korištenje mobilnih uređaja ne samounutar fizičkog okruženja učionice, već i izvan nje, što ga čini vrlo pogodnim za uspostavu učenjana daljinu. U ovome radu istražuje se suvremena praksa povezana s implementacijom mobilnogučenja jezika u proces učenja i poučavanja kroz pregled relevantne literature područja, s posebnimnaglaskom na mobilne aplikacije za učenje jezika. Pregled literature, u kojem je identificirano 17relevantnih radova objavljenih tijekom perioda od dvije i pol godine (od siječnja 2020. do travnja 2022.godine), sistematizira opisanu primjenu mobilnog učenja prema značajkama konteksta u kojem seprimjenjuje te prema učincima mobilnog učenja u sklopu nastave. Rezultati pregleda ukazuju naznačajnu raznolikost u smislu mobilnih aplikacija koje se koriste, pedagoških pristupa na kojimapočiva njihova praktična primjena, uloga nastavnika jezika, te pozitivnih učinaka na učenike, akoji se mogu pokazati korisnima praktičarima pri organizaciji jezične nastave uz primjenu mobilnetehnologije.
The MESOC Toolkit is a free and open-access online service used to aid the measurement of the societal value and impact of culture, currently under development as part of the MESOC (Measuring the ...Social Dimension of Culture) project. The goal of establishing transition variables that serve as impact measurement indicators is aided by an online document repository system of thematic publications (i.e., a collection of documents on the societal value and impact of cultural policies). It allows the users to input, manage, and search extensive document data based on the relevant criteria.
The paper at hand paper describes the rationale behind the online document repository of the MESOC Toolkit, its implementation, and main functionalities. Furthermore, it offers an empirical evaluation of the benefits that such a system offers over non-automated procedures of document search and analysis. The results of the evaluation give way to the conclusion that there are time-saving and quality benefits for the users of the repository: efficiency in dealing with a large number of documents and quality in searching the documents using multiple criteria.
One of the ways in which distance teaching and learning practice and results may be improved is to collect relevant data from various student activities performed during a course and analyse them so ...as to be able to draw relevant conclusions. Such data usually includes, but is not limited to, the data obtained from evaluation activities aimed at evaluating the set learning outcomes. The collected data is subjected to the defined learning analytics procedures by both the experts (e.g., educational decision-makers) and nonexperts (e.g., course instructors) in learning analytics, so a visual representation of data may help in increasing the transparency and comprehensibility of the results. Designated learning data visualisation systems play a vital role in that regard and may offer a number of customised graphical displays of data. The paper at hand argues in favour of learning data visualisation helping to design better and more successful distance learning setups. It aims to describe a newly developed system for learning data visualisation which uses the data collected from a learning management system and allows it to be automatically prepared, analysed, and visualised for educational decision-making. The emphasis in the paper is put on the design and implementation of the system (all of its components), its back-end elements, and database design.
The aim of the paper is to examine the possibilities for automatic generation of language learning exercises and compare them to those manually compiled by language instructors. The paper first ...presents a universal methodology applied in manually created exercises for learning the language for specific purposes, elaborated with examples in the field of academic English. Next, the automation of the procedure is explored through a series of steps which include creating the corpus, analysing each exercise type and the possibility of its automatic generation, automatically generating the exercise, and evaluating the end result. The results of the evaluation suggest that automatic generation of exercises can serve as a preliminary step of a two-stage process of exercises development in which each exercise, however, needs additional approval from the language expert.
Adaptive and intelligent instructional systems are used to deal with the issue of learning personalisation in contexts where human instructors are not immediately available, so their role is ...transferred entirely or in part onto the computer. Even though such systems are mostly developed for well-defined domains that have a rather straightforward acquisition order, such as mathematics or computer programming, they found their application in ill-defined domains as well. Natural language learning is one such domain, and developing adaptive instructional systems for this specific purpose is notoriously complex and challenging due to the nature of language systems. The paper at hand examines the theoretical background of adaptivity and intelligence in instructional systems, and discusses their application in learning and teaching of natural languages. Moreover, the paper reviews adaptive and intelligent language learning systems in existence and identifies their characteristics in a systematic manner. The discussion section offers a more detailed view of selected systems for language learning that exhibit interesting and innovative implementation solutions. The paper concludes by suggesting possible developmental directions and future work in the field.

U današnje doba sve veći trend u poslovanju postaje implementacija sustava poslovne inteligencije. Razlog tomu je rastuća količina informacija koja se stvara i prikuplja unutar samog poduzeća te iz ...brojnih vanjskih izvora. Kako bi poslovanje ostalo konkurentno, važno je na vrijeme prikupiti i odabrati odgovarajuće informacije na temelju kojih se zatim donose poslovne odluke. OLAP (On Line Analytic Processing) sustavi predstavljaju jedan dio sustava poslovne inteligencije. Cilj im je analitička obrada, procesiranje i izvlačenje podataka za potrebe poslovnog odlučivanja. S obzirom na sve veću potražnju, već u nastavi je važno početi pripremati studente za rad s navedenim alatima. U radu ćemo prikazati pregled razvoja i karakteristika OLAP sustava te način njihove implementacije u nastavni proces. Usporedit ćemo karakteristike dva odabrana OLAP alata korištena u nastavi.
