Law historian, ethnographer and collectioner, Baltazar Bogišić(1834-1908), renowned and celebrated in his lifetime, has remained so well after his death. Although he did give certain thought to the ...future of his library and collection, he failed to provide a clear definition of their fate upon his death. Marija Bo-gišić-Pohl (1837-1920), his sister and sole heir, gathered able men of confiden-ce to help her create a concept of lasting tribute to Bogišić’s heritage and place. Among them were Đuro Bijelić, Vlaho Bukovac, Frano Kulišić, Antun Vuče-tićand Antun Bratić, who in a fairly short period of six years (1908-1914) came up with a result. With their ceaseless council and selfless support, the role of Đuro Bijelićand Vlaho Bukovac should be particularly emphasised. Marija Bogišić-Pohl erected a majestic tomb for her brother at the Cavtat cemetery, which in terms of style and concept falls among the most significant examples of historicistic tomb sculpture in Dubrovnik and its surrounds. She funded the activity of the “Dub” civil society in designing the city park in Dubrovnik, which was named after Bogišić. Hitherto unknown is a curious detail concer-ning the design of the park fountain for which the famous sculptor Ivan Me-štrović(1883-1962) was to be commissioned. From the inherited financial funds she helped the renovation of the Franciscan church of Our Lady of Snow and the parish church of St Nicholas in Cavtat, as well as the construction of the modern local water supply. She supported the initiative of the citizens of Cavtat and Dubrovnik to erect a public monument in honour of Bogišićat the Cavtat waterfront, for the purpose of which, with her consent, one of the Bogišić properties was pulled down in order to create an open space at the entrance to Cavtat. Vlaho Bukovac was in charge of this project for which he commissio-ned the young sculptor Petar Pallavicini (1886-1958). This stone monument soon became, and has remained to this day, one of the central landmarks of Cavtat. Yet, probably the most rewarding were the efforts made towards the systematisation of Bogišić’s collection and the opening of his private library to the public, which have operated as a museum under the administration of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts to the present day.
The atmosphere is a particularly difficult analytical system because of the very low levels of substances to be analysed, sharp variations in pollutant levels with time and location, differences in ...wind, temperature and humidity. This makes the selection of an efficient sampling technique for air analysis a key step to reliable results. Generally, methods for volatile organic compounds sampling include collection of the whole air or preconcentration of samples on adsorbents. All the methods vary from each other according to the sampling technique, type of sorbent, method of extraction and identification technique. In this review paper we discuss various important aspects for sampling of volatile organic compounds by the widely used and advanced sampling methods. Characteristics of various adsorbents used for VOCs sampling are also described. Furthermore, this paper makes an effort to comprehensively review the concentration levels of volatile organic compounds along with the methodology used for analysis, in major cities of the world.
Light and starvation are two principal environmental stimuli inducing conidiation in the soil micromycete Trichoderma spp. We observed that volatiles produced by conidiating colonies of Trichoderma ...spp. elicited conidiation in colonies that had not been induced previously by exposure to light. The inducing effect of volatiles was both intra- and interspecific. Chemical profiles of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced by the nonconidiated colonies grown in the dark and by the conidiating colonies were compared using solid-phase microextraction of headspace samples followed by tandem GC-MS. The conidiation was accompanied by increased production of eight-carbon compounds 1-octen-3-ol and its analogs 3-octanol and 3-octanone. When vapors of these compounds were applied individually to dark-grown colonies, they elicited their conidiation already at submicromolar concentrations. It is concluded that the eight-carbon VOCs act as signaling molecules regulating development and mediating intercolony communication in Trichoderma.
This paper focuses on the research infrastructure of advanced gas cooled reactors in the Czech Republic, particularly on the high-temperature helium loop HTHL, which is a unique facility of its kind. ...HTHL is intended mainly for testing structural materials. It also can be used to research technologies relating to helium coolant. The maximum temperature and pressure that can be used within the specimen testing space are 900 °C and 7 MPa, respectively, and the maximum gas flow rate in the main loop is 38 kg/hr. Originally, the equipment was envisaged as a device for corrosion tests of materials in the reactor LVR-15 but, according to current plans, a different equipment will be built for this purpose within the frame of the SUSEN project. At the same time, an additional helium loop (S-Allegro) will be built to test selected components of advanced gas-cooled reactors.

The High Temperature Helium Loop (HTHL) is an experimental device for simulation of VHTR helium coolant conditions. The purpose of the HTHL is structural materials testing and helium coolant ...chemistry investigation. In the HTHL pure helium will be used as working medium and its main physical parameters are 7MPa, max. temperature in the test section 900°C and flow rate 37.8kg/h. The HTHL consists of an active channel, the helium purification system, the system of impurities dosage (e.g. CO, CO2, H2, H2O, O2, N2, and CH4) and the helium chemistry monitoring system (sampling and on-line analysis and determination of impurities in the helium flow). The active channel is planned to be placed into the core of the experimental reactor LVR-15 which will serve as a neutron flux source (max. 2.5×1018n/m2s for fast neutrons).
The HTHL is now under construction. Some of its main parts are finished, some are still being produced (active channel internals, etc.), some should be improved to work correctly (the helium circulatory compressor); certain sub-systems are planned to be integrated to the loop (systems for the determination of moisture and other impurities in helium, etc.). The start of the HTHL operation is expected during 2011 and the integration of the active channel into the LVR-15 core during 2012.
In this work the breakthrough volumes (BTVs) of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on Tenax TA were determined in the −10 to 170
°C temperature range by using microtrap (MT) technology. The MT ...technology allowed experimental investigation of the temperature dependence of BTVs. Along with the BTV data, we also discuss the thermodynamics of the temperature dependence of the BTV through a two-parameter equation ln (BTV)=
A
1/
T+
C

T is temperature (K),
A
1=−Δ
H/
R where Δ
H is enthalpy of sorption and
C
1 is constant. This equation fitted well the experimental results with
R
2 values between 0.9737 (acetone) and 0.9995 (dimethyl disulfide), with n between 6 and 11. However, for
n-pentane,
n-hexane and 1-hexene it proved that a three parameter equation ln (BTV)=
A
2/

BT

C

R

Simultaneously, it turns out that MT technology, extending the operational temperature range, is well served by a careful investigation of the temperature dependence models of BTVs.

U radu se tematizira o kontekstu obnove parka u okviru recentno provedenog natječaja obnove Parka Gradac i njegovog šireg krajobraznog pojasa.
