Focusing on three different ethno-national groups—Turks, Kurds, and Syriacs—the contributors explore issues such as identity, family situation, language use, education, labor market experiences, and employment. The essays highlight the varying degrees of success each group has achieved in the process of trying to integrate into Stockholm society. The book also examines the widespread discrimination and exclusion the descendants of migrants experience. As a whole, this volume shows a troubling picture of the obstacles faced by immigrant new societies.

The accumulation of protein structural data occurs more rapidly than it can be characterized by traditional laboratory means. This has motivated widespread efforts to predict enzyme function ...computationally. The most useful/accurate strategies employed to date are based on the detection of motifs in novel structures that correspond to a specific function. Functional residues are critical components of predictively useful motifs. We have implemented a novel method, to complement current approaches, which detects motifs solely on the basis of distance restraints between catalytic residues.
ProMOL is a plugin for the PyMOL molecular graphics environment that can be used to create active site motifs for enzymes. A library of 181 active site motifs has been created with ProMOL, based on definitions published in the Catalytic Site Atlas (CSA). Searches with ProMOL produce better than 50% useful Enzyme Commission (EC) class suggestions for level 1 searches in EC classes 1, 4 and 5, and produce some useful results for other classes. 261 additional motifs automatically translated from Jonathan Barker's JESS motif set Bioinformatics 19:1644-1649, 2003 and a set of NMR motifs is under development. Alignments are evaluated by visual superposition, Levenshtein distance and root-mean-square deviation (RMSD) and are reasonably consistent with related search methods.
The ProMOL plugin for PyMOL provides ready access to template-based local alignments. Recent improvements to ProMOL, including the expanded motif library, RMSD calculations and output selection formatting, have greatly increased the program's usability and speed, and have improved the way that the results are presented.

Purpose
To investigate the correlation between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)‐derived prostate parameters and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) type with the International Prostate Symptom Score ...(IPSS).
Materials and Methods
In all, 61 patients (median age, 60; range, 41–81 years) who underwent preoperative MRI and prostatectomy were included in this retrospective study. The MRI‐based parameters including total prostate volume (TPV), transition zone (TZ) volume (TZV), TZ index, intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP), the anterior fibromuscular stroma (AFMS) distance, prostatic urethral angle, bladder wall thickness, urethral wall thickness, urethral compression, urethral wall changes, and BPH type were correlated with total IPSS, IPSS‐storage symptom (IPSS‐ss), IPSS‐voiding symptom (IPSS‐vs), and responses to the individual IPSS questions using Spearman (ρ) or Pearson (r) correlation coefficients, one‐way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and multiple linear regression.
Results
TPV (r = 0.414, P = 0.001), TZV (r = 0.405, P = 0.001), IPP (r = 0.270, P = 0.04), and AFMS distance (r = 0.363, P = 0.004) correlated with total IPSS. In multiple linear regression analysis, TZV was the only predictor for total IPSS (P = 0.001), IPSS‐ss (P < 0.001), IPSS‐vs (P = 0.03), and the scores for the IPSS questions 1 (P = 0.03) and 4 (P = 0.001). TPV was a predictor of the scores for questions 2 (P = 0.003), 3 (P = 0.009), and 7 (P < 0.001).
Conclusion
Several MRI‐derived prostate measurements (TPV, TZV, IPP, AFMS distance) correlated with total IPSS. TZV was the only predictor for total IPSS based on multiple regression analysis.

This article surveys immigration during the second part of the twentieth century with the aim of determining the origins of the immigrant population and the socioeconomic position of the second ...generation. It focuses on migration from Turkey from the 1960s onward. Originally, migration from Turkey was within the framework of labor recruitment. These migrants were predominantly ethnic Turks of rural origin. A second wave of migrants from Turkey was composed of Syriani/Assyrians, a Christian minority from eastern Turkey seeking asylum in the 1970s on the grounds of religious persecution. Since the 1980s, the main intake of migrants from Turkey has been Kurds seeking protection on the grounds of political persecution. Immigration of ethnic Turks and Syriani/Assyrians is restricted to family reunification and family formation; the numbers are low. Kurds, on the other hand, are accepted both on the grounds of refugee claims and family reunification/family formation. The article looks at conditions of growing up in Sweden, with a particular focus on education, mother-tongue classes and instruction in Swedish. Second-generation youth distinguish themselves by an overrepresentation among dropouts from school, but also by an overrepresentation among those who do well academically in comparison with native Swedes. This applies to second-generation youth with family roots in Turkey. Though very few under the age of 18 hold regular employment, the article also discusses the prospects of entering the labor market, based on information from the regular labor market surveys. Unemployment rates are consistently higher for second-generation migrants than for native-born Swedish youth. The article closes with a discussion about the developing multicultural society in Sweden and the niches that second-generation youth tend to occupy.
