Waste separation is beneficial to minimize the negative environmental effects of waste and to promote the recycling use of waste. Based on the norm activation model framework, this study mainly focused on examining how information publicity about waste separation affects resident’s waste separation intention. A questionnaire survey was conducted in China to collect the research data, and the data were analyzed by using the structural equation modeling technique. The results indicated that resident’s awareness of consequences of not separating waste is positively and significantly associated with ascription of responsibility, and both of them are positively and significantly related to personal norm. Personal norm is positively associated with resident’s waste separation intention. Furthermore, information publicity has a direct and positive effect on resident’s waste separation intention. However, the effect is relatively small. Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the effect of information publicity on waste separation intention depends on information quality. Information quality positively moderates the effect of information publicity on waste separation intention. The current study enriched the research on resident’s waste separation behavior and highlighted the role of information publicity. Based on the results, policy implications about how to motivate residents to separate waste were discussed and the research limitations were pointed out.
The recent perennial spate of flooding in Ghana has over the years caused hemorrhagic loss to lives and properties. In view of the inundation phenomenon, issues of waste management have been shot ...into prominence. The key among dominant suggestions to counteracting the situation has essentially converged around waste separation, which is an under researched area in Ghana. Against this background, the research seeks to investigate household waste separation behavior using an integrated theory of planned behavior and the norm activation model as the theoretical framework. Data were drawn using the questionnaire survey method and further analyzed using the structural equation modeling technique. The empirical results of data analysis drawn from 707 households confirmed a significant relationship between awareness of consequences and attitude, and subjective and personal norms. Subjective norm is significantly related to attitude and perceived behavior control. Moreover, attitude has a positive relationship with behavioral intention, whereas the relationship between perceived behavior control and behavioral intention is not significant. Finally, personal norm has a significant relationship with behavioral intention. The results also confirmed that the integrated model is useful and appropriate for predicting behavior. From the results, implications for pursuing and forging household waste separation behavior and suggestions for future research are outlined.
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has precipitated a surge in mask usage around the world. This situation could spur environmental consequences which when not well managed, may compound waste and ...waste management, and further drive the spread of viral infections. Therefore, this study explores the antecedents of mask waste separation behavior in Ghana using an integrated model composed of the theory of planned behavior and the norm activation model. With the use of the questionnaire survey approach, data was drawn from 570 respondents, and further analyzed using the structural equation modeling technique. Results revealed that the relationship between awareness of consequences and other constructs, except attitude, and the relationship between ascription of responsibility and other constructs, except attitude, are significant. Moreover, significant relationships between subjective norm and attitude, subjective norm and personal norm, and subjective norm and perceived behavior control were validated. However, no significant relationship exists between awareness of consequences and attitude, and between awareness of responsibility and attitude. On the basis of the study findings, insightful implications for policy and suggestions for future research are presented.
Regional eco-innovation can change the extensive development mode and promote the sustainable development of the economy and society. In the background of digital government construction, the ...external environment of regional eco-innovation has changed. In this study, the panel data of 125 prefecture-level cities in China from 2013 to 2020 are used to construct a fixed-effect model for empirical analysis by sorting out the relationships among digital government, regional eco-innovation, and dual environmental regulation. The following conclusions are drawn: First, digital government mainly promotes the improvement of regional eco-innovation through digital society and digital citizenship. Second, formal and informal environmental regulations have remarkable positive effects on regional eco-innovation. Third, informal environmental regulation has a positive moderating effect on digital administration and regional eco-innovation and a positive moderating effect on digital citizenship and regional eco-innovation. Fourth, formal environmental regulation cannot moderate the relationship between digital government and regional eco-innovation. This study can give priority to promoting the digital government to serve and play a role in ecological governance and environmental information disclosure, so as to provide policy opinions for the government when issuing documents supporting the improvement of regional eco-innovation, and promote the realization of a more reasonable allocation of innovation resources.

In the regional innovation system (RIS), the triple helix (TH) relations of university, industry, government (UIG) have received wide attention, but the spatial correlation involving various ...innovation subjects has rarely been deeply analyzed, especially in urban agglomeration. Based on the triple helix perspective, this paper integrates the collaborative coupling relationship between innovation subjects and the spatial correlation between regions in the RIS under a theoretical framework. Two types of collaborative innovation networks are constructed: one is the collaborative coupling network between UIG, one is the spatial correlation network between different areas. Using the invention patent data of provinces in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) from 2014 to 2018, and on account of the TH algorithm based on mutual information, to explore the collaborative innovation relationship from the two dimensions of collaborative coupling among innovation subjects and spatial correlation among regions. The results show that:(1) Jiangsu has an obvious leading advantage in the total amount of invention patents, Zhejiang and Anhui have witnessed a rapid growth of patent output. (2) In the YRD region, the collaboration between university and industry is the closest, the UIG collaborative relationship is close in Shanghai, the collaborative relationship between industry and university in Jiangsu is close. (3) The bilateral correlation between Jiangsu and the other three provinces is relatively strong; the bilateral correlation between Zhejiang and the other three provinces tends to be close. The trilateral correlation among Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui is relatively close. This study expands the application fields of the TH theory and provides a new perspective and method for RIS research. The research results offer helpful theoretical support and policy inspiration for accurately grasping the development law of the regional innovation in the YRD and coordinating the relationship between different subjects and different regions in the innovation network.

The ectopic expression of ubiquitin-specific peptidase 21 (USP21) is common in different types of cancer. However, its relationship with radio-sensitivity in cervical cancer (CC) remains unclear. In ...this study, we aimed to uncover the effect of USP21 on CC radio-resistance and its underlying mechanism. Our results showed that the expression of USP21 was markedly increased in CC tissues of radio-resistant patients and CC cells treated with radiation. Besides, knockdown of USP21 restrained the survival fractions, and facilitated apoptosis of CC cells in the absence or presence of radiation. Additionally, USP21 in combination with FOXM1 regulated the stability and ubiquitination of FOXM1. However, FOXM1 reversed the effects of USP21 knockdown on the radio-resistance of CC cells. Furthermore, FOXM1 knockdown activated the Hippo pathway by inhibiting the nuclear translocation of Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1), and FOXM1 knockdown attenuated the radio-resistance of CC cells via inhibiting the Hippo–YAP1 pathway. USP21 activated the Hippo pathway by mediating FOXM1. Knockdown of USP21 enhanced the radio-sensitivity of CC cells in vivo. In summary, USP21 contributed to the radio-resistance of CC cells via FOXM1/Hippo signaling, and may serve as a promising target for radio-sensitizers in the radiotherapy of CC.
Objective:
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the common malignant tumors worldwide. Chromobox (CBX) family proteins are important components of epigenetic regulation complexes and are implicated in ...the development of multiple cancers by blocking differentiation and promoting proliferation. However, little is known about the function of distinct CBX proteins in colorectal cancer.
Methods:
Oncomine, Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA), Kaplan-Meier plotter, cBioPortal, GeneMANIA, and TIMER were utilized to analyze differential expression, prognostic value, genetic alteration and immune cell infiltration of CBXs in colorectal cancer patients.
Results:
The expression levels of CBX1/2/3/4/5 and CBX8 were significantly elevated in CRC tissues, whereas the expression levels of CBX6/7 were reduced. CBX3 was significantly associated with the clinical cancer stage and short disease-free survival (DFS) in CRC patients. High mRNA expression of CBX5/6 was associated with short overall survival (OS) in rectal cancer patients. CBX3/5/6 could be potential prognostic biomarkers for the survival of CRC patients. Moreover, the functions of the differentially expressed CBXs were primarily related to the SUMOylation of DNA methylation proteins and chromatin organization and may regulate the pluripotency of stem cells. The expression of CBXs were significantly correlated with the infiltration of diverse immune cells, including six types of CD4+ T cells, macrophages, neutrophils, B cells, CD8+ T cells, and dendritic cells in colon cancers and rectal cancers.
Conclusions:
Our study may provide novel insights for the selection of prognostic biomarkers of CBX family in colorectal cancer.
Methylxanthine, including caffeine citrate and aminophylline, is the most common pharmacologic treatment for apnea of prematurity. However, due to the lack of high-quality evidence, there are no ...clear recommendations or guidelines on how to choose between caffeine and aminophylline. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the comparative efficacy and safety of caffeine and aminophylline for apnea of prematurity, and provide reliable evidence for clinical medication in the treatment for apnea of prematurity. PubMed, Scopus, Embase, EBSCO, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases were systematically searched from May 1975 to June 2022. Ten studies including a total of 923 preterm infants were evaluated. Our results showed that there was no significant difference in the effective rate of 1-3days between caffeine and aminophylline (OR 1.05, 95%CI: 0.40-2.74, P = 0.914). However, for side effects such as tachycardia (OR 0.22, 95%CI: 0.13-0.37, P<0.001) and feeding intolerance (OR 0.40, 95%CI: 0.23-0.70, P = 0.001), the incidence rate was lower in the caffeine group compared with the aminophylline group. No significant difference was found in hyperglycemia (OR 0.45, 95%CI: 0.19-1.05, P = 0.064). This meta-analysis reveals that caffeine citrate and aminophylline have similar therapeutic effectiveness on respiratory function, but caffeine has fewer side effects and should be considered first for treatment.
Electronic health records have recently received increasing attention from researchers and practitioners. Nonetheless, research exploring the antecedents of adoption is limited. In this study, ...drawing on the institutional theory and theory of planned behavior, we propose a model to empirically investigate the salience of institutional pressures (i.e., coercive, normative and mimetic) to attitude towards electronic health records and adoption intention, and how such effects are moderated by organizational culture. The study used data drawn from a field survey conducted with 322 health practitioners to empirically test the proposed research model. The results revealed the significant effects of institutional pressures on attitude towards electronic health records. Moreover, attitude was also indicated to have a significant positive relationship with practitioner's intention to adopt electronic health records. In addition, it was revealed that, organizational culture significantly moderates the relationship between practitioners' attitude towards electronic health records and adoption intention. The implications of the study findings are discoursed on, and suggestions for future research and policy are succinctly spelt out.
•The study investigates the salience of institutional pressures and organizational culture to health technology adoption.•Organizational culture moderates the relationship between attitude towards EHR and practitioner's intention to adopt EHR.
A high prevalence of Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) infection in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been reported in many case reports and studies; thus, the association between EBV and IBD ...has gained increasing attention. Patients with IBD are at an increased risk of opportunistic EBV infection owing to the common use of immunomodulators. EBV infection in IBD patients can cause various complications, including superimposed viral colitis, which is associated with chronicity, exacerbation, and poor prognosis of refractory IBD, and can induce progression to lymphoproliferative disorders, such as EBV-positive mucocutaneous ulcer (EBVMCU), lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG), hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). It has been suggested to screen for EBV before initiating immunosuppressive therapy and monitor the status of EBV infection in patients with IBD, especially those who are EBV-seronegative and have a risk of primary EBV infection. Clinicians should also be careful of misdiagnosing IBD and EBV-associated lymphoproliferative diseases due to similarities in both clinical symptoms and endoscopic manifestations. Withdrawal of immunosuppressants has been shown to be an effective strategy to achieve remission of disease at the time of EBV diagnosis, but antiviral therapy remains controversial. The present review aims to describe the characteristics of the complications caused by EBV infection and generalize the recent research progress on and challenges caused by EBV infection in IBD patients. The literature for writing this review was collected from ‘PubMed’ research engine. The keywords ‘inflammatory bowel disease and Epstein–Barr virus’ or ‘ulcerative colitis and Epstein–Barr virus’ or ‘Crohn’s disease and Epstein–Barr virus’ were used to collect the literature and relevant papers were collected to help writing this review.
