Lung cancer has high morbidity and mortality worldwide with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounting for 85% of the cases. Therapies for lung cancer have relatively poor outcomes and further ...improvements are required. Circular RNAs have been reported to participate in the occurrence and progression of cancer. Information on the functions and mechanism of circRNAs in lung cancer is limited and needs more exploration.
We detected expression of genes and proteins by qPCR and western blot. Function of circSATB2 was investigated using RNA interference and overexpression assays. Location of circSATB2 was assessed by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Interaction of circSATB2, miR-326 and FSCN1 was confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay.
Data from the investigation showed that circSATB2 was highly expressed in NSCLC cells and tissues. circSATB2 positively regulated fascin homolog 1, actin-bundling protein 1 (FSCN1) expression via miR-326 in lung cancer cells. Furthermore, circSATB2 can be transferred by exosomes and promote the proliferation, migration and invasion of NSCLC cells, as well as induce abnormal proliferation in normal human bronchial epithelial cells. Also, circSATB2 was highly expressed in serumal exosomes from lung cancer patients with high sensitivity and specificity for clinical detection and was related to lung cancer metastasis.
circSATB2 participated in the progression of NSCLC and was differentially expressed in lung cancer tissue and serumal exosomes. circSATB2 may be potential biomarker for the diagnosis of NSCLC.

Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) sealed with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) composite coating was prepared on novel Mg-4Zn-0.6Zr-0.4Sr magnesium alloy. Immersion tests and slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) tests combined with in-situ electrochemical tests indicated that the MAO + PLGA coating significantly improved the corrosion and the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance. The findings of this work indicate that a protective coating that is able to withstand deformation or stress is essential for maintaining the mechanical stability of a biodegradable Mg alloy in a stress corrosion environment. The widely used MAO coating only provides a limited improvement for the SCC resistance of biomedical ZK40-0.4Sr alloy.

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) has been verified to augmented the incidence of pneumonia, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, and other pulmonary diseases. Airway inflammation is the pathological basis of the respiratory system, and understanding the molecular mechanisms responsible for airway inflammation may thus support the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases. In our study, human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) were exposed to various concentrations of PM2.5 for 48 h. PM2.5 entered the cells, resulting in increased production of interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 8 (IL-8) and decreased the expression of circular RNA 406961 (circ_406961). Further, PM2.5 with a concentration of 75 μg/mL was applied to mechanism study. Functional experiments further confirmed that circ_406961 inhibited PM2.5-induced BEAS-2B cell inflammation. RNA pull-down and mass spectrometry showed that circ_406961 interacted with interleukin enhancer-binding factor 2 (ILF2), which could regulate phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and mitogen-activated protein kinase 8 (MAPK8, JNK). Our studies showed that circ_406961 inhibited activation of STAT3/JNK pathways via interacting with ILF2 protein, thereby inhibiting the PM2.5-induced inflammatory reaction.

The rice brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål), a major rice insect pest in Asia, is a vascular bundle-feeder that ejects gelling and watery saliva during the feeding process. Although major proteins in the salivary glands of N. lugens have been identified using 2D PAGE, very little is known about the secreted saliva of this insect. In this study, we identified the major proteins in the secreted watery saliva of N. lugens, via collecting from a sucrose diet that adult planthoppers had fed upon through a membrane of stretched parafilm, and using shotgun LC–MS/MS analysis with reference to transcriptome database of salivary glands of N. lugens. A total of 107 proteins were identified in the watery saliva of N. lugens, over 80% of which showed significant similarity to known proteins. When annotated by the Blast2GO suite, 29 proteins had catalytic activity and 24 proteins were binding proteins. The saliva enzymes included oxidoreductases, hydrolases, phosphatases, peptidases (proteases), kinases, transferases, and lyases. Binding proteins in N. lugens watery saliva included ATP-binding, lipophorin, calcium-binding, actin-binding and DNA-, RNA-, and chromatin-binding proteins. Other non-enzymatic proteins, such as ubiquitins, heat shock proteins, ribosomal proteins, and immunoglobulin proteins were also found in N. lugens watery saliva. This is the first study to identify, characterize and list the proteins in watery saliva of N. lugens, which might be involved in planthopper–rice interactions.

Benzoapyrene (BaP) is a class I carcinogen and hazardous environmental pollutant with genetic toxicity. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying genetic deterioration and epigenetic alterations induced by environmental contaminants may contribute to the early detection and prevention of cancer. However, the role and regulatory mechanisms of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in the BaP-induced DNA damage response (DDR) have not been elucidated. In this study, human bronchial epithelial cell lines (16HBE and BEAS-2B) were exposed to various concentrations of BaP, and BALB/c mice were treated with BaP intranasally. BaP exposure was found to induce DNA damage and upregulate circular RNA hsa_circ_0057504 (circ_0057504) expression in vitro and in vivo. In addition, BaP upregulated TMEM194B mRNA and circ_0057504 expression through inhibition of DNA methyltransferase 3 alpha (DNMT3A) expression in vitro. Modulation (overexpression or knockdown) of circ_0057504 expression levels using a lentiviral system in human bronchial epithelial cells revealed that circ_0057504 promoted BaP-induced DNA damage. RNA pull-down and western blot assays showed that circ_0057504 interacted with non-POU domain-containing octamer-binding (NONO) and splicing factor proline and glutamine rich (SFPQ) proteins and regulated formation of the NONO-SFPQ protein complex. Thus, our findings indicate that circ_0057504 acts as a novel regulator of DNA damage in human bronchial epithelial cells exposed to BaP. The current study reveals novel insights into the role of circRNAs in the regulation of genetic damage, and describes the effect and regulatory mechanisms of circ_0057504 on BaP genotoxicity.

Identification of underlying partial differential equations (PDEs) for complex systems remains a formidable challenge. In the present study, a robust PDE identification method is proposed, demonstrating the ability to extract accurate governing equations under noisy conditions without prior knowledge. Specifically, the proposed method combines gene expression programming, one type of evolutionary algorithm capable of generating unseen terms based solely on basic operators and functional terms, with symbolic regression neural networks. These networks are designed to represent explicit functional expressions and optimize them with data gradients. In particular, the specifically designed neural networks can be easily transformed to physical constraints for the training data, embedding the discovered PDEs to further optimize the metadata used for iterative PDE identification. The proposed method has been tested in four canonical PDE cases, validating its effectiveness without preliminary information and confirming its suitability for practical applications across various noise levels.
The utilization of Ca ion as assistant depressant of CMC on talc has been widely reported. Thus, the study on the adsorption mechanism of Ca ion on talc surface is very crucial for understanding the ...performance of CMC on talc depression. In this paper, mechanism insights into hydrated Ca ion adsorption on talc (001) basal surface were creatively provided using DFT calculation. Ca(H2O)62+ and Ca(OH)(H2O)3+ were determined as the effective hydrate components for Ca ion adsorption, and the top O site was the most favorable position for their adsorptions on talc surface. Furthermore, the adsorption mechanisms of Ca(H2O)62+ and Ca(OH)(H2O)3+ on talc surface were found to be not the Ca—O chemical bond, but the hydrogen bonding formed by the H atom of the H2O ligand and the surface O atom. H2O acted like a bridge to connect them to the talc surface. Moreover, the hydrogen bonding was formed due to the hybridization of H 1s orbital with the O 2s, O 2p orbitals. Simultaneously, electrons transferred between the H atom and the surface O atom. This work provides theoretical insights into the Ca ion adsorption on talc surface, which can help deeply understand the talc flotation using CMC as depression.
The technology of high-density electropulsing has been applied to increase the performance of metallic materials since the 1990s and has shown significant advantages over traditional heat treatment ...in many aspects. However, the microstructure changes in electropulsing treatment (EPT) metals and alloys have not been fully explored, and the effects vary significantly on different material. When high-density electrical pulses are applied to metals and alloys, the input of electric energy and thermal energy generally leads to structural rearrangements, such as dynamic recrystallization, dislocation movements and grain refinement. The enhanced mechanical properties of the metals and alloys after high-density electropulsing treatment are reflected by the significant improvement of elongation. As a result, this technology holds great promise in improving the deformation limit and repairing cracks and defects in the plastic processing of metals. This review summarizes the effect of high-density electropulsing treatment on microstructural properties and, thus, the enhancement in mechanical strength, hardness and corrosion performance of metallic materials. It is noteworthy that the change of some properties can be related to the structure state before EPT (quenched, annealed, deformed or others). The mechanisms for the microstructural evolution, grain refinement and formation of oriented microstructures of different metals and alloys are presented. Future research trends of high-density electrical pulse technology for specific metals and alloys are highlighted.
