After the end of War World II, Latin-American literature has used the theme of Nazism to create and recreate a wide variety of stories. In some cases, these stories are conceived as a critique to ...specific aspects of real life, which reminds the reader of the often blurred duality between reality and fiction. This critique is based on the relationship of the characters in the stories, as well as by the socio-political and philosophical views they represent, as can be seen in Juan G. Vásquez’s Los informantes or Jorge E. Pardo’s El pianista que llegó de Hamburgo, both novels written by Colombian authors. Furthermore, it can also be seen in Argentinian literature, as examined here in two specific narratives, Jorge Luis Borges’s short-story, “Deutsches Requiem,” and Osvaldo Bayer’s novel Rainer y Minou. Each of these incorporates the theme of Nazism or topics related to it, and therefore, in this project I set out to analyze how these narratives represent Nazism from a fictional point of view, while also examining how the political and social aspects of each particular case shape the narratives as they relate to the incursion of Nazism in their plot. This, for example, is the case of the blacklists in Los informantes or the irony from escaping a European country in the midst of a war to end up living in a Latin-American country that faces an even worse situation, as is narrated in El pianista que llegó de Hamburgo. The mentality of a Nazi German soldier and his reasons to transform the world is also presented in “Deutsches Requiem,” to conclude this analysis with the representation of guilt and shame that is passed to the children of Nazi soldiers condemned for executing Jews in Rainer y Minou.
In this work I explore the geometry found both in the narrative structures and the internal shapes proposed in Jorge Luis Borges’ short stories and seek to arrive at new interpretations of those ...works by mapping out—in graphical form—the shapes found therein. I move from basic two-dimensional shapes (lines, triangles, quadrilaterals) to those involving the element of temporality and atemporality (circles, interruptive loops, chiasmus) to shapes dealing with repetition—both geometric and temporal—and eternity (labyrinths, fractals, and Alephs). In each case and for each short story analyzed, either an existent interpretation is favored or a new interpretation is set forth.
...hunger/scarcity, migration, and saudade were frequently used by highly influential intellectuals as vectors of cultural self-differentiation during the forties (the anos da fame) and in the ...ensuing decade. ...the realistic fictionalization of those experiences seems to be an underlying theme in much of Rivas's output.
...on the meta-narrative level the novel can be seen as the rewriting of seminal texts in the Latin American tradition, such as Juan Rulfo's novel Pedro Páramo (Auxilio as the feminine counterpart to ...Pedro Páramo; while he speaks from beyond the grave, she speaks from behind the walls of the desolate university) or Jorge Luis Borges's short story "El aleph" (the bathroom as the space where all temporalities are manifested simultaneously), as well as Severo Sarduy's De donde son los cantantes (one of the main characters is called "Auxilio").3 Secondly, the novel seems to work against testimonial narratives such as Ernesto "Che" Guevara's Pasajes de la guerra revolucionaria, Elena Poniatowska's La noche de Tlatelolco, and Diamela Eltit's El padre mío. ...Auxilio witnesses the violence of the State against its own citizens during the Mexico '68 student movement and decides to remain hidden while her friends are carried away by the military. ...one of the novel's male characters, Arturito Belano, comes back after having witnessed the fall of Allende's democratic government in Chile, but keeps silent about his experiences and lets Auxilio disseminate the story. According to Ferrer, instead of denouncing the crime, the novel subverts the detective genre by performing displacements that refocus the events of 1968 to highlight the violence of the State. 10 Etymology: Middle English, revelation, Revelation, from Anglo-French apocalipse, from Late Latin apocalypsis, from Greek apokalypsis, from apokalyptein to uncover, from apo- + kalyptein to cover-more at hell 1 a: one of the Jewish and Christian writings of 200 b.c. to a.d. 150 marked by pseudonymity, symbolic imagery, and the expectation of an imminent cosmic cataclysm in which God destroys the ruling powers of evil and raises the righteous to life in a messianic kingdom b capitalized : revelation 32 a: something viewed as a prophetic revelation b: armageddon3: a great disaster <an environmental apocalypse> Online Oxford Dictionary.

In a preface added to the 2007 US edition of Roberto Bolano's The Savage Detectives, the novel's translator, Natasha Wimmer, provides a condensed biography. Other things might be said about The ...Savage Detectives's relation to North and South American literature. Here, Grimstad comments that in Bolano's tendency toward the episodic and picaresque there is of course the gaunt knight with a barber's basin on his head, his fat squire riding beside him awaiting his promised insula; and so an affinity with other sprawling works like Moby-Dick or Gravity's Rainbow. Like these novels, The Savage Detectives is driven by hundreds of walk-on characters who show up once and never return, taking to the limit the logic of the episode, making narrative from the tessellated overlap of semiautonomous cells.

Are such things as luck, chance, and fortune 'given' or original proper ties of the natural order of things, or are they perverse consequences of some misguided attempt to find out whether they exist ...or not? Does God play dice, or do the dice merely play God? How is that a sense of supernatural power, which often accompanies 'uncannily' good luck, is discovered, known about, or activated in a society that may not have precise equivalents for our ideas of chance and fortune? This article cites examples drawn from Mesopotamian notions of creation, from the Daribi of interior Papua and the Barok of New Ireland, that explain how this process might unfold. Luck and fortune have to do with any kind of strategy that destroys the opposition, most often through the underdetermination of thought.
