Psycho-Analysis does not stay at abstractly affirming the two theses so painful to Narcissism- the psychical significance of sexuality and the unconsciousness of mental life-but rather proves them by ...means of a material that touches every individual personally and forces him to face these problems. The theme of the Centenary Conferences centred on the foundational features that make up the essence of psychoanalysis: the unconsciousness of mental life, sexuality, the death drive, trauma, and the body. Lucy LaFarge convened the New York Conference (at Doral Arrowwood, in the Hudson River area), where they included a final panel on The unconscious of the child, whereas in London the last panel was on The body and its mysteries.1 In New York, Steven Cooper gave his reflections at the end of the conference, discussing the theory of the setting, while in London David Tuckett, the oldest living former editor of the Journal (1993-2001), gave his personal reflections on what he would like to see in the next century, in particular on the role of neuroscience. The second part of this special centenary issue is a record of the centenary art exhibition, The Enigma of the Hour, One Hundred Years of Psychoanalytic Thought, which took place at the Freud Museum (6 June-4 August 2019) as a different way of honouring the 100 years of the International Journal of Psychoanalysis through archival material placed in conversation with an art exhibition.

Para que a matéria fosse devidamente tratada, buscamos nas bases do pensamento freudiano sua elaboração. Esta pesquisa permitiu-nos entender que Freud formula a palavra como uma das dimensões em que a energia libidinal transita no aparelho psicofisiológico. Não só isso, proporcionou-nos a ponderação de que é preciso reconhecer a interdependência entre o corpo e alma Seele para que a função da palavra seja devidamente compreendida em sua obra.

O presente artigo tem como objetivo expor as concepções de Sigmund Freud sobre a fruição estética. Ele parte da hipótese de que há dois posicionamentos básicos a respeito do tema na obra do autor: um ...referente à obra de arte como fonte de prazer e outro vinculado à produção de inquietação. De acordo com Freud, o prazer produzido pela obra de arte seria fruto de uma descarga energética, que permitiria uma suspensão temporária da repressão e a realização disfarçada de um desejo inconsciente. Já a inquietação seria produzida quando a obra de arte manifestasse certos elementos vinculados ao reprimido ou remetesse a formas de pensamento já superadas ao longo do desenvolvimento psíquico. Concluímos que, em ambos os casos, a fruição estética estaria relacionada com a evocação de representações inconscientes reprimidas. No entanto, a determinação dos afetos suscitados no espectador também seria influenciada pela manipulação exercida pelo artista, a partir da aplicação de sua técnica.
The development of the compassionate self, associated with practices such as slow and deeper breathing, compassionate voice tones and facial expressions and compassionate focusing, is central to ...Compassion-Focused Therapy. This study explores the impact of a 2-week compassionate mind training (CMT) program on emotional, self-evaluative and psychopathology measures and on heart rate variability (HRV). Participants (general population and college students) were randomly assigned to one of two conditions: CMT (
n
= 56) and wait-list control (
n
= 37). Participants in the CMT condition were instructed to practice CMT exercises during 2 weeks. Self-report measures of compassion, positive affect, fears of compassion, self-criticism, shame, depression, anxiety and stress and HRV were collected at pre- and post-interventions in both conditions. Compared to the control group, the experimental group showed significant increases in positive emotions, associated with feeling relaxed and also safe and content, but not activated, and in self-compassion, compassion for others and compassion from others. There were significant reductions in shame, self-criticism, fears of compassion and stress. Only the experimental group reported significant improvement in HRV. Developing awareness of the evolved nature and inherent difficulties of our minds allied with practicing CMT exercises has beneficial effects on participants’ psychological and physiological well-being.

Sigmund ...Freud hielt solche Patientinnen und Patienten zu seiner Zeit für schwer oder gar nicht analysierbar. Die Weiterentwicklung der Psychoanalyse brachte es aber mit sich, dass durch Modifikationen der Standardtechnik auch solche Krankheitsbilder wie narzisstische Persönlichkeitsstörungen oder Borderline-Störungen behandelbar wurden. Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt die Gemeinsamkeiten von psychoanalytischer Standardtechnik und Übertragungsfokussierter Psychotherapie sowie die Unterschiede zwischen beiden Therapieformen dar. Außerdem wird die Notwendigkeit erörtert, die Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten in psychoanalytischer Aus- und Weiterbildung auch mit notwendigen Modifikationen in der analytischen Psychotherapie vertraut zu machen.
