In the Slovenian part of the Gulf of Trieste/Trst, submarine springs occur as funnel-shaped depressions in the Holocene sandy-silt marine sediment that forms the seafoor. These springs exhibit both ...elevated temperatures (up to 29.6 °C) and sulphur content. Based on their location, they are divided into three groups: the Izola group (three springs), the Bele skale group (two springs), and the Ronek group (seven springs). Previous investigations linked these springs to the Izola anticline, characterized by its limestone core and fysch limbs, but no detailed explanation was provided. We propose that: A) sulphur groundwater springs from the limestone (karstic aquifer) at the stratigraphic boundary with the fysch and B) springs occur in the nearshore area, where the sedimentary cover of Quaternary deposits is thin enough to be penetrated by spring waters and washed out. According to existing data, the anticline axis is NW-SE directed, and the Izola group lies approximately on the seaward extension of the axis. Therefore, this interpretation fts perfectly for the Izola group, while the Ronek and Bele skale groups are of-axis extensions and require reinterpretation. In order to resolve the micro-locations of the Ronek and Bele skale groups, we conducted a sedimentological logging of the fysch deposits and detailed geological mapping. The investigations revealed that: A) limestone outcrops occur only in the town of Izola, B) two prominent calciturbidite megabeds that occur in the fysch enable very detailed geological mapping, and C) the axis of the Izola anticline is oriented in the WNW-ESE direction, and this moderate anti-clockwise rotation of the anticline axis explains the micro-locations of all springs. The Ronek and Bele skale groups are located on the southern side, and the Izola group is on the northern side of the limestone core of the Izola anticline.
Submarine springs near Izola, in the Northern Adriatic Sea, appear in funnel-shaped depressions and smell strongly of sulfur. Along the Mediterranean coast there are many submarine karst springs ...containing brackish or fresh water, but submarine sulfur springs are not particularly common. Three submarine sulfur springs and one terrestrial sulfur spring were investigated to better understand the water properties, water–rock interaction within the aquifer, and to explore the origin of the spring water. Groundwater and seawater samples were also collected for comparison. Based on the geological setting, physicochemical parameters, hydrogeochemical data, and stable isotope data (

), we can affirm that (1) the large concentration of seawater in the submarine springs samples is due to sampling challenges; (2) springs recharge from precipitation where confined karst aquifers outcrop; (3) deep water circulation is indicated; (4) redox conditions can provide a suitable environment for bacterial reduction of the marine or organic sulfate to the odorous H

This article is dedicated to presenting nautical tourism in Slovenia. The basic purpose is to evaluate the extent of nautical tourism, since data on this type of tourism in Slovenia are lacking. ...Slovenia has three marinas, a few moorings and a passenger terminal. Despite its small coastal strip (46 km), all forms of nautical tourism are represented. This article consists of theoretical and analytical work. The theoretical part presents a number of basic definitions relating to nautical tourism and cruises. This work will also present the development of this form of tourism in Slovenia to date. Slovenia’s first marina was built in 1979 in Portorož, while cruise tourism in Slovenia began later, in 2005. Due to its diversity in a small area, Slovenia is an ideal starting point for (maritime) excursions. In the analytical part, numerical traffic data for the period 2005 to 2015 from marinas and the Port of Koper have been collated and analysed. This work is based on data collected by the marinas themselves, since the official nautical traffic statistics are not recorded. The main results of our analysis indicate that nautical tourism in Slovenia has experienced a large decline since 2005. The exception is cruise tourism, which has shown strong growth.
This study concerns the microfacies characterization of white and black limestone tesserae from selected Roman floor mosaics in Slovenia, with the aim of defining their provenance. We investigated 42 ...tesserae from 15 different mosaics from the archaeological sites of Ljubljana, Izola, Mošnje, Ptuj, Črnomelj and Šentpavel, dated from the first century bc to the fifth century ad. Among the studied tesserae, 13 different microfacies were identified: eight black and five white. The most common were mudstones with ostracods (65% of black tesserae) and wacke‐packstones with miliolids (85% of white tesserae). The majority of the identified facies can be found in the Cretaceous successions of the Dinaric Carbonate Platform in south‐western Slovenia, north‐eastern Italy and south‐eastern Croatia, suggesting a regional or imported origin of the tesserae.

The present article presents the reader the Path of Factories or tells the reader/visitor the story left behind the former economic activity of the fish processing industry, operating from the last ...quarter of the 19th century to the present day. The path tells the story, which is still preserved today among Isolans, lives on and represents the memory about six factory plants in the city of Izola/Isola, which are placed all along the the way from the west to the eastern bay of the town. The two extremes of the route coincide with the primary economic activity of the city of Izola/Isola, processing small „blue“ fish.
