The present work describes the development of a conceptual representation model of the domain of the theory of formal grammars and abstract machines through ontological modeling. The main goal is to ...develop an ontology capable of deriving new knowledge about the mood of an Alzheimer's patient in the categories of wandering, nervous, depressed, disoriented or bored. The patients are from elderly care centers in Ambato Canton-Ecuador. The population consists of 147 individuals of both sexes, diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, with ages ranging from 75 to 89 years. The methods used are the taxonomic levels, the semantic categories and the ontological primitives. All these aspects allow the computational generation of an ontological structure, in addition to the use of the proprietary tool Pellet Reasoner as well as Apache NetBeans from Java for process completion. As a result, an ontological model is generated using its instances and Pellet Reasoner to identify the expected effect. It is noted that the ontologies come from the artificial intelligence domain. In this case, they are represented by aspects of real-world context that relate to common vocabularies for humans and applications working in a domain or area of interest.
The Data Technology Center at the University of Informatics Science, develops software solutions that allow analysis, processing and handling of information. In the center are developed graphical user ...interfaces using ExtJS, aframework that enables component-oriented development process, however, the support offered by the developmenttools for use it under the concept of rapid application development is limited. The center has tools like Ext Designer and Lycan GENESIS - Commonent Builder, but these are restricted to design and code generation of the graphicalinterfaces, which reduces the performance of developers, compared to the obtained in an integrated developmentenvironment; a tool, where the user finds a set of features grouped. In order to meet the needs of the center, thedevelopment of an extension for the NetBeans IDE, which allows the design of graphical user interfaces with ExtJS isproposed. For this reason it was decided to make use of design patterns in the preparation and implementation ofclasses, as well as reuse of components of the NetBeans platform, being guided the process by the methodologyOPEN UP.
To design the complex systems that synthetic biologists propose to create, software tools must be developed. Critical to success is the enablement of collaboration across our community such that ...individual tools that perform specific tasks combine with other tools to provide multiplicative benefits. This will require standardization of the form of the data that exists within the field (Parts, Strains, measurements, etc.), a software environment that enables communication between tools, and a sharing mechanism for distributing the tools. Additionally, this data model must describe the data in a sufficiently rigorous and validated form such that meaningful layers of abstraction can be built upon the base. Herein, we describe a software platform called "Clotho" which provides such a data model, and the plugin and sharing mechanisms needed for a rich tool environment. This document provides a tutorial for users of Clotho and information for software developers who wish to contribute new tools (known as "Apps") to it.
Exploration with mobile robots is utilized in a wide range of applications including search and rescue missions, planetary exploration, homeland security, surveillance, and reconnaissance. ...Cooperative exploration offers the potential of exploring an unknown zone more quickly and robustly than single-robot case. However, coordinating multiple robots is a challenging task due to heterogeneous processing and communication requirements, and the complexities of exploration algorithms. This paper presents a comparison of different cooperative exploration strategies, such as frontier-based exploration, market-driven exploration, and role-based exploration, based on their exploration performances and processing time requirements. To show the effect of CPU power on the processing time of the exploration algorithms, two notebooks and a netbook with different specifications have been extensively used. Comparative simulation results of our own application developed in Java show that the processing time requirements are consistent with the computational complexities of the exploration strategies. The results we obtained are consistent with the CPU power tests of independent organizations, and show that higher processing power reduces processing time accordingly.
Currently, there is no open-source, cross-platform and scalable framework for coalescent analysis in population genetics. There is no scalable GUI based user application either. Such a framework and ...application would not only drive the creation of more complex and realistic models but also make them truly accessible.
As a first attempt, we built a framework and user application for the domain of exact calculations in coalescent analysis. The framework provides an API with the concepts of model, data, statistic, phylogeny, gene tree and recursion. Infinite-alleles and infinite-sites models are considered. It defines pluggable computations such as counting and listing all the ancestral configurations and genealogies and computing the exact probability of data. It can visualize a gene tree, trace and visualize the internals of the recursion algorithm for further improvement and attach dynamically a number of output processors. The user application defines jobs in a plug-in like manner so that they can be activated, deactivated, installed or uninstalled on demand. Multiple jobs can be run and their inputs edited. Job inputs are persisted across restarts and running jobs can be cancelled where applicable.
Coalescent theory plays an increasingly important role in analysing molecular population genetic data. Models involved are mathematically difficult and computationally challenging. An open-source, scalable framework that lets users immediately take advantage of the progress made by others will enable exploration of yet more difficult and realistic models. As models become more complex and mathematically less tractable, the need for an integrated computational approach is obvious. Object oriented designs, though has upfront costs, are practical now and can provide such an integrated approach.
Fully supporting end-to-end processes requires combining service orientation-which takes an engineering approach to reducing the gap between software requirements and implementation-with model-driven ...design-which addresses the same problem in terms of well-understood mathematical structures. The Centre of Innovation for Service-Centered Continuous Engineering (www.scce.info) adopts a holistic approach to closing the classical gap between business-driven requirements and IT-based realization. We provide a seamless method and a matching toolset based on the Java Application Building Center (jABC) framework (www. jabc.de) to cover the business development phase and the business-to-IT transition. The NetBeans Integrated Development Environment (IDE) supports IT development and deployment (www.netbeans.org).
Software engineers have many robust commercial tools available to them for creating and manipulating models. Due to the widespread adoption of the Object Management Group (OMG) standards for ...metamodel definition, model serialisation and programmatic access to models, many of these tools are interoperable. Currently this is not the case for ontology engineering tools. This paper discusses the potential benefits of making the OMG's model-driven architecture (MDA) technology applicable to ontology engineering, and in particular, describes a technique for converting ontologies serialised using the XML metadata interchange (XMI) format to an equivalent representation using the resource description framework (RDF), without any loss of information. The resulting models can then be analysed and transformed using existing RDF tools. The technique is applicable to any ontology modelling language that has its abstract syntax defined using the OMG's meta-object facility (MOF) model.
This research helps to bridge the gap between the MDA and ontology engineering by providing a technique based on the familiar RDF language for defining transformations between other types of model (such as UML) and ontologies, between different ontology modelling languages, or to modify ontologies without changing the language.
