Namen prispevka je, da poišče in predstavi razločevalne lastnosti med posamostaljenjem oz. substantivizacijo, sprevrženjem oz. konverzijo in poenobesedenjem oz. univerbizacijo, tudi v razmerju do ...navadne izpeljave. Prispevek pojasnjuje, zakaj posamostaljenja ne moremo enačiti s poenobesedenjem, še manj s kanonično besedotvorno izpeljavo. V prispevku smo poskušali poiskati natančne in dovolj jasne oz. enoumne opredelitve naštetih pojmov, v nadaljevanju pa predstaviti zmožnosti posamostaljenja in zglede njegove rabe v sodobni slovenščini.
By using a survey and semi-structured interviewing our study showed that the majority of Slovene PhD students are satisfied with their Slovene academic writing skills, but admitted they could ...improve, for example, with regard to their use of typical academic vocabulary in its usual context; writing concisely and accurately; and producing characteristic sentences and phrases in accordance with specific sections of text. As for the origins of the skills in question, in students' opinion the most important way of learning how to write academic Slovene is by reading academic text during the entire course of study, as well as by writing term papers and similar assignments. Here – in PhD students' and supervisors' opinion – the role of teachers is very important, i.e. all teachers, not just linguists, should contribute to the excellence of students' knowledge of academic Slovene.
The event-related potential method has proven to be a useful tool for studying the effects of gender information in language. Studies have shown that mismatch between the antecedent and the following ...referent triggers two ERP components, N400 and P600. In the present study, we investigated how grammatical gender affects the mental representation of the grammatical subject. A match-mismatch paradigm was used to investigate how masculine grammatical gender and gender-balanced forms (the explicit mention of masculine and feminine forms as word pairs) as role nouns affect the processing of the referent in Slovenian. The morphological complexity of Slovenian language required the use of anaphoric verbs instead of nouns/pronouns, on which previous research was based. The results showed that following both the gender-balanced and the masculine generic forms, P600 (but not N400) was observed in response to the feminine verb but not to the masculine verb. The P600 amplitude was smaller in the case of the gender-balanced form than in the case of the masculine generic form only. We have concluded that gender-balanced forms are more open to feminine continuations than masculine generic forms. This is the first ERP study in Slovenian to address the effects of processing grammatical gender, thus contributing to existing research on languages with grammatical gender. The great strength of the study is that it is one of the first ERP studies to test the mental inclusivity of gender-balanced forms.
Prispevek obravnava distribucijo in izvor končnic rodilnika množine, ki se pojavljajo v štirih glavnih (sinhronih) sklanjatvenih vzorcih samostalnikov v terskem narečju slovenskega jezika – ...o-sklanjatvi moškega in srednjega spola, a-sklanjatvi, i-sklanjatvi. Oblika rodilnika množine izkazuje precejšnjo končniško variantnost tako med posameznimi sklanjatvenimi vzorci kot znotraj njih; možne so tudi dvojnične uresničitve z dvema ali več variantnimi končnicami pri istem leksemu. Obravnava se osredotoča na stanje v govoru kraja Ter/Pradielis.
Abstract The COVID pandemic spurred the use of various metaphors, some very common and universal, others depending on the language, country and culture. The use of metaphors by the general public, ...especially in languages other than English, has not yet been sufficiently investigated, one of the reasons being the lack of resources and automatic tools for metaphor analysis. To fill this gap, we introduce TCMeta, a dataset of tweets annotated for metaphors around COVID-19, in two languages from ten different countries. The dataset contains metaphoric phrases covering four source domains. Furthermore, we introduce a semi-automatic methodology to annotate more than 2000 tweets in English and Slovene. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first multilingual semi-automatically compiled dataset of user-generated texts aimed at investigating metaphorical language about the pandemic. It is also the first Slovene dataset of tweets annotated for metaphors.
Abstract
The article highlights the compilation of specialised dictionaries, focusing mainly on the characteristics of dictionary entries of abbreviations in terminological dictionaries for Slovene. ...Special attention is given to the compilation and characteristics of the dictionary entries of abbreviations in the Slovene terminological dictionaries published by the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian language. The paper presents an overview of the characteristics of the terminological dictionaries for Slovene and provides examples of good practice that were used in the compilation of the English–Slovene Dictionary of Criminal Justice and Security Abbreviations. The paper presents the microstructure of the dictionary, and selected examples of Slovene and English–Slovene dictionary entries, as well as the overall compilation process, the selection of terms and the inclusion of related subfields. The English–Slovene Dictionary of Criminal Justice and Security Abbreviations is a growing dictionary compiled in the freely available dictionary mask Termania, and freely accessible on the portal Slovarji.si. The dictionary is the first Slovene terminological dictionary of abbreviations for the field of criminal justice and security.
