The novel Mocking Desire was published in 1993, when Drago Jančar was already a wellknown author, who had received some important literary awards. This hybrid and multifaceted literary work describes ...the Slovenian writer’s stay in New Orleans and in New York. Because Jančar visited the United States on a Fulbright Fellowship in 1985, his novel is read as an autobiography, although the author has not established an autobiographical pact with the reader (Lejeune). The aim of this study is to consider the autobiographical writing as a literary genre, the figure of reading, and the play with convention, in order to answer the question what provokes the autobiographical reading of Mocking Desire.
This paper is a follow-up and elaboration of the paper published in the JTDH 2022 Conference Proceedings on manual semantic annotation of named entities based on a proposed set of annotations for a ...corpus of modernist literary texts. We first briefly describe the corpus and introduce the annotation scheme, then focus on the results of additional analyses, and conclude with further challenges and issues we identified with respect to established NER systems and practices of related projects. Overall, we identify several categories of proper names, foreign language elements, and bibliographic citations, but focus here on the challenges of annotating names of literary characters and place names, and provide examples of the results of preliminary analyses of these entities in the corpus.

Brz razvoj digitalne humanistike i njezinih metoda omogućili su prije svega sve veći kapacitet računala i mogućnost izrade opsežnih računalno čitljivih korpusa tekstova koji omogućuju tzv. udaljeno ...čitanje. Unatoč teorijskim stavovima da pomno čitanje treba zamijeniti udaljenim čita-njem, istraživanja potvrđuju da je relevantno kvantitativno istraživanje moguće samo na temelju poznavanja rezultata istraživanja klasične književne povijesti. Stilometrijom kao kvantitativnom statističkom analizom stila odnosno međusobnom usporedbom tekstova na temelju mjerljivih obilježja dobivamo uvid samo u određeni segment stila, ali i uvid u veću skupinu tekstova u koju su uključeni i nekanonski tekstovi čiju su važnost istaknuli i drugi smjerovi u istraživanju književnosti. Ot-krivamo da prikaz rezultata stilometrijske analize slovenske pripovjedne književnosti od prve polovice 17. stoljeća do prve izvorne slovenske priče iz 1836. godine predstavlja pojedina razdoblja razvoja slovenske pripovjedne književnosti s prepoznatljivim snažnijim autorskim signali-ma, a unutar razdoblja i sa žanrovskim signalima. Određene veze među njima ukazuju na potrebu daljnjih, detaljnijih istraživanja.
