Drawing upon hitherto untapped archival resources in New York and Los Angeles, Sean P. Holmes documents how American stage actors used trade unionism to construct for themselves an occupational identity that foregrounded both their artistry and their respectability. In the process, he paints a vivid picture of life on the theatrical shop floor in an era in which economic, cultural, and technological changes were transforming the nature of acting as work. The engaging study offers important insights into the nature of cultural production in the early twentieth century, the role of class in the construction of cultural hierarchy, and the special problems that unionization posed for workers in the commercial entertainment industry.
Haslea ostrearia, a cosmopolitan marine pennate diatom, produces a characteristic blue pigment called marennine that causes the greening of filter-feeding organisms, such as oysters. Previous studies ...evidenced various biological activities of purified marennine extract, such as antibacterial, antioxidant and antiproliferative effects. These effects could be beneficial to human health. However, the specific biological activity of marennine remains to be characterized, especially regarding primary cultures of mammals. In the present study, we aimed to determine in vitro the effects of a purified extract of marennine on neuroinflammatory and cell migratory processes. These effects were assessed at non-cytotoxic concentrations of 10 and 50μg/mL on primary cultures of neuroglial cells. Marennine strongly interacts with neuroinflammatory processes in the immunocompetent cells of the central nervous system, represented by astrocytes and microglial cells. An anti-migratory activity based on a neurospheres migration assay has also been observed. These results encourage further study of Haslea blue pigment effects, particularly the identification of molecular and cellular targets affected by marennine, and strengthen previous studies suggesting that marennine has bioactivities which could be beneficial for human health applications.

La noción de magia es distinta en vos y en mí, no cabe duda, pero el hecho de que notes esa carencia prueba -creo- que has sido sensible al enorme desajuste que hay entre las razones del drama y su espectacular desenlace a hachazo limpio (...) te has negado a admitir el lado demoníaco del cuento.
Pour cela, il semble nécessaire dans un premier temps de prendre en compte la singularité de ces objets ainsi que les très nombreuses questions d'ordre épistémologique qu'ils soulèvent: qu'est-ce ...qu'un objet technique en scène? Y a-t-il même une particularité de l'écran ou du smartphone en regard de n'importe quel autre objet scénique, chaise ou perruque? S'il est connecté (ordinateur, capteur, etc.) possède-t-il un mode d'être différent? J'avancerai pour commencer quelques hypothèses qui, loin de répondre à ces questions, attestent plutôt de la diversité des pratiques en jeu et de l'inventivité des artistes de théâtre qui s'en emparent; plus que des réponses définitives, c'est cela que je voudrais mettre en valeur ici.
