The fields of Italian finance and economics are particularly rich in the use of English loanwords, as both non-adapted and adapted Anglicisms can be retrieved in general Italian monolingual ...dictionaries. If we consider the specific case of audiovisual translation, it is possible to observe an increasing use of Anglicisms in the Italian dubbed versions of audiovisual products set in the world of finance. Firstly, this paper will analyze the case of the first season of Devils (2020), a financial thriller drama television series. The analysis will investigate the translation strategies used to transpose the specialized financial terminology used in the dialogues, focusing in particular on the significant presence of new Anglicisms in the target text. Secondly, the presence of these Anglicisms in the Italian dubbed version of the film The Big Short (2015) will be analyzed, in order to compare their use in both productions. Finally, the paper ends with a practice-based interlingual study involving a number of Italian undergraduate students in Economics, aiming at establishing whether they use the new Anglicisms identified in the Italian dubbed version of Devils.
Audiovisual translation has long struggled to strike a balance between corpus-based analysis of large amounts of text and the need to systematically integrate multimodality in its research scope, in ...order to fully acknowledge the complex nature of the audiovisual product. This paper aims to relate on the experimentation that is currently being conducted at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, with the collaboration of the University of Basel (Switzerland): using an existing software (created for pragmatics) for audiovisual translation. The main aim is to make sure this software is able to support the researcher in transcribing, annotating, adding metadata, managing and querying text and video files. The experimented software has never been used for parallel aligned audiovisual text so far. The contribution here presented first briefly describes a framework developed to analyse language variation and multimodality (with a focus on character design) in audiovisual translation, which was then immersed in the software. Subsequently, the software itself is described in detail, with specific attention to its potential and limits in the use within the field of Translation Studies and audiovisual translation. This is done by showing examples from a pilot study that belongs to a broader corpus currently under construction.

Currently, they are experiencing a stage of serious competition with new technological possibilities of forms for obtaining and creating information. The basis of progress in human society is recognized as a well-founded entity such as verbal communication. Human society today is most interested in the information that the media presents to it. The modern world is characterized by the active use of various information technologies, as they save time. Television messages are responsible for obtaining the necessary information in a short time. In other words, a person tends to emphasize information mainly from the Internet, television messages, from newspaper information. Television news releases often contain news blocks in English that need to be translated. Today, it is an urgent need, and it is valid and necessary in a variety of ways. This and many other factors explain the urgency of this problem. One of the main goals of knowing the world is the need for information. It is due to the subconscious desire of people to understand what is happening around – the desire in which the instinct of self-preservation and the orienting reflex that guides human development manifest themselves. At the moment, the media have such a significant impact on the life of society, on the consciousness and ideas of people. Modern mass media have a substantial effect on the life of society, on the consciousness and ideas of people. Society constantly needs to receive new information about what is happening globally.
Pivot translations are very often used in film festivals, but have been granted little consideration from an academic viewpoint. This article analyses the role of pivot languages in audiovisual ...translation within the framework of Asian film festivals held in Catalonia. There are three aims of this paper: (i) to examine to what extent pivot translations are part of the translation process in films screened in such festivals, (ii) to determine the justifications for their use, and (iii) to analyse the effects of their use from a qualitative perspective. In order to do so, the answers from a questionnaire distributed among the most relevant agents in Asian film festivals in Catalonia will be analysed. Additionally, the Chinese film Old Stone by Johnny Ma that has been translated into and subtitled in Catalan through English as its pivot language, will be presented as a case study.

The use of a third language or pivot translation is widespread in film festivals, although very few studies focus on this practice, which usually remains unnoticed by the average spectator. This article seeks to examine just how common this phenomenon is in film festivals and to analyse its impact with a case study, taking the Chinese film Old Stone by Johnny Ma and its translation into Catalan as an example. More precisely, the article aims to answer two questions regarding the use of pivot languages in audiovisual translation. Firstly, to what extent and for what exact purpose are pivot translations currently being used in Asian film festivals in Catalonia? Secondly, how does using a pivot language, in our case English, affect quality?

This study focuses on how translanguaging in language instruction with the aid of audiovisual materials can teach Iranian EFL students with Arab ethnicity wordplay in English . Given the significant role wordplay plays in generating humor within TV shows, it can provide a challenge for EFL learners to understand both the humor and cultural nuances of such audiovisual materials. To this end, this study initially selected two popular series, Friends and The Simpsons, translated into Persian. The researchers taught linguistic and translation models to 15 EFL students with Arab ethnicity to identify and categorize the diverse types of wordplay and strategies used to translate them from English to Persian. Students participating in the action research found that the most commonly utilized wordplay and translation strategy were lexical-semantic wordplay and no wordplay strategy, respectively. They also reported that the equivalents were not appropriate in many instances. Interview results with these learners demonstrated the participants' enhanced understanding of wordplay, with translanguaging through translated audiovisual materials identified as a motivating and effective approach for language learning. Ultimately, this research has important implications for teaching English within the expanding cycle of world Englishes with the possibility of promoting translanguaging and intercultural competence.
The research aimed to find out the translation strategies applied in the subtitling and the dubbing of idiomatic expressions in the television series WandaVision (2021). Moreover, the research also ...aimed to reveal whether the subtitling and the dubbing of the idiomatic expressions are source language-oriented or target languageoriented. The descriptive qualitative approach was applied in the research. The data were analyzed using the taxonomy for rendering extralinguistic cultural references in subtitling proposed by Pedersen. The taxonomy was used to analyze the data since it was specifically designed for subtitling and audiovisual translation. The results show that there are various strategies applied in subtitling and dubbing. In subtitling, the translation strategies applied are substitution, direct translation, generalization, and the combination of substitution and omission. The translation strategies applied in the subtitling are related to spatial and temporal constraints. As a comparison, the translation strategies applied in dubbing are substitution, direct translation, generalization, and the combination of substitution and specification. The strategies are applied based on the consideration that spoken language features should be included in the dubbing. Based on the translation strategies applied, it can be concluded that both the subtitling and the dubbing are target language-oriented.
