The article contributes to the Polish tradition of research using personal memoirs to illustrate the experience of everyday life. The authors analyze the experiences of middle-class representatives ...based on data collected through a nationwide competition for a diary of an unemployed person. The diarists experienced unemploymentfor at least one month between 2016 and 2017. The article shows the fragility of middle-class status, one that is difficult to achieve and easy to lose. The Polish middle class is under constantthreat of being "washed away" by a wave created by low wages, poor working conditions, insufficient savings, credit burdens, and the trap of comparing oneself with other representatives of the middle class. The article illustrates the mediocrity of middle-class life-the disillusionment with the quality of life in the middle of the social structure based on deficits in health and psychological well-being and disruptions in social relations.
Migration is an important life transition that creates opportunities for both learning and the (re)construction of identity. In this article, we discuss the migration experiences of great aunt Neža ...Gerkšič, a.k.a. Agnes Lacroix, as a field of learning being interpreted through the theory of biographical learning. Biographical learning is treated as a process occurring in everyday life and the (re)construction of identity, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values. The study, following the phenomenological paradigm of qualitative research, was developed on the basis of an autobiographical record that includes the entire course of Neža's life and all her migrations. By analyzing the autobiographical record, we show how, in the first half of the twentieth century, this active subject of migration acquired knowledge and (re)constructed her identity through various strategies.
This paper uses autobiographical stories to explore various aspects of institutional violence. The stories are taken from a range of institutional settings including schools, academia and commercial ...enterprises. Each story is used in a dynamic interplay with extant theories and explanations of violence in a mutually explorative and informing manner. Each tale intersects with a different set of issues relating to organisations and violence. The stories and the analysis cohere around the central notion that there exist economies of violence in which violence is exchanged, transacted and within which it circulates. Such economies are constituted and legitimated by discourses, the economy shifts and alters as the surrounding discourses change.
In the current knowledge society, the meta-competence of Learning to learn and transversal skills are fundamental. It is therefore necessary for individuals to understand what their level of mastery ...of these skills is and what strategies they can implement to improve themselves. Self-awareness, creativity and digital technologies, as well as being fundamental tools for operating in the constantly changing contemporary world, are also valid support tools for the literacy and training of active and informed citizens. With this in mind, in the academic year 2019/20, a research project was carried out through using autobiographical methods and coding. The autobiographical writing formats and the multimedia products created through coding with the Scratch language have been developed during workshops in the presence and online, remotely, on a portal. Students wrote their life experiences in order to better understand them, to know the level of mastery of certain skills, what factors or events influenced their choices and creatively rethink and rework their experiences. This article reports the main results of this study, which confirm that both the autobiographical format and the use of digital technologies are useful tools for the education and training of people, especially in a lifelong learning perspective.
Autobiography as an educational, self-educational and research method in a lifelong learning way: an exploratory survey project. Qualitative research in educational sciences and, specifically, ...autobiographical methods in pedagogical research and education are gradually spreading, as they can be used in different contexts of life and environments. After a long-lasting debate between the supporters of quantitative methodologies and supporters of qualitative methodologies, they came to a conciliation with the so-called mixed methods. Multi-year research project and sub-projects presented used different samples: teachers and educators, and detainees. They were asked to fill an autobiographical writing format, which stimulates personal reflection and recovery of experiences through cognitive, affective, emotional, perceptive solicitations to achieve better identity awareness and orienteering to improve and plan own future in LLL way. Data analyses had carried out using both quantitative, through main statistical methods, and qualitative methodologies, through an original method inspired by Grounded Theory by Glaser and Strauss. To the detainees, a cognitive and satisfaction questionnaire had administrated using the same data analysis methodologies. Main results show that most people of samples have a great desire to take time to reflect on themselves and on their own experiences, to communicate and share them, because they said autobiographical writing experience was very involving, challenging, agreeable, useful and educational/self-educational, as it allows increasing their awareness and desire to improve themselves. As results showed, usefulness of autobiographical methods in pedagogical research had confirmed: they allow achieving multiple goals, primarily confirming the questions made.
•Autobiographic method development by using p-Nitrophenyl butyrate & bromothymol blue.•Lipase inhibited zones were visualized as blue against greenish yellow background.•Method detected the lipase ...inhibitor, orlistat up to the concentration of 1ng.•Method detected the lipase inhibitor from the un-explored species of Streptomyces.•Method can be used for lipase inhibitor screening & purification from unknown sample.
An autobiographic method based on the thin layer chromatogram was developed by using the chemical system that comprises p-Nitrophenyl butyrate and bromothymol blue for detecting the lipase inhibitor. Lipase inhibitory zones were visualized as blue spots against the greenish yellow background. This method could able to detect the well known lipase inhibitor, orlistat up to the concentration of 1ng which is better than the earlier method. This method could also able to detect the lipase inhibition activities from the un-explored species of Streptomyces. The developed method can be used not only for the screening of unknown samples for the lipase inhibitors but also for the purification of the lipase inhibitors from the unknown samples.
Nowadays we are living in hyper-connected and increasingly knowledge-based societies, where their citizens need ever higher skills and knowledge “equipments”. Several recent international surveys ...agree that it is crucial and strategic what people know, what people know to know and how they can effectively and profitably use what they know to work, live and improve their life chances, not only about earnings and employment but also about health and social active relationships, as i.e. reported in PIAAC by OECD (2013). In this framework, we’re pursuing a qualitative research based on a original format who allow to collect autobiographical writings as well as key-words and key-experiences people lived. Autobiographical writings, indeed, collected through an original format titled “Parole di una vita. Parole per…” and elaborated by the research team allow to remember, focus on and give senses and meanings to all people lifelong and lifewide experienced, to better understand what they lived and did, what are their skills, education attainments and literacy, and even their lack, what have influenced their choices so to better understand past to better plan their future. We will report some interesting results from the survey, whose data have been analyzed through grounded theory principles, which will show autobiographical format is useful in education and self-education, especially in a perspective of lifelong and lifewide learning.
