This open access book presents a rich set of innovative solutions for artificial intelligence (AI) in manufacturing. The various chapters of the book provide a broad coverage of AI systems for state ...of the art flexible production lines including both cyber-physical production systems (Industry 4.0) and emerging trustworthy and human-centered manufacturing systems (Industry 5.0). From a technology perspective, the book addresses a wide range of AI paradigms such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, active learning, agent-based systems, explainable AI, industrial robots, and AI-based digital twins. Emphasis is put on system architectures and technologies that foster human-AI collaboration based on trusted interactions between workers and AI systems. From a manufacturing applications perspective, the book illustrates the deployment of these AI paradigms in a variety of use cases spanning production planning, quality control, anomaly detection, metrology, workers’ training, supply chain management, as well as various production optimization scenarios. This is an open access book.

This open access book presents a number of case studies on digital transformation in Norway, one of the fore-runners in the digital progress index established by the European Commission in 2020. They ...explore the process of adoption, diffusion and value generation from digital technologies, and how the use of different digital solutions has enabled Norwegian enterprises to digitally transform their operations and business models. The book starts with an introductory chapter summarizing a vast body of literature in order to synthesize what is already known about digital transformation before exploring the Norwegian context in more detail. Then a series of case studies from the private and public sector in Norway is presented. They document a process perspective which describes the sequence of events during and after adoption of digital solutions, as well as the types of business value that were realized. Through these single studies, the process of digital transformation is illustrated, a number of key findings highlighted, and eventually theoretical and practical recommendations based on these cases emphasized. The book closes with a brief overview of some emerging technologies, and comments on how they are likely to change different sectors. Digital transformation has been one of the priority areas for the Norwegian government over the past years and puts Norwegian enterprises upfront in adopting novel technologies and utilizing them for achieving organizational goals. This experience accumulated over the years makes the Norwegian context a particularly interesting one in understanding how private and public organizations make use of new digital solutions, what lessons can be learnt during the process, and what are some of the key success and failure factors. This way the book is written for practitioners who are currently involved in digital transformation projects in their organizations, researchers of information systems and management, as well as master students in degrees of informatics and technology management.

The enclosed papers cover various topics within the field, including augmented and virtual reality, website development, social media use, e-learning, big data, analytics and recommendation systems.
I argue that the idea of pursuing a strong personalization of the motor liability insurance conflicts hopelessly with the need to refer to homogeneous groups of policyholders large enough to be ...correctly priced. I furthermore discuss the fact that, due to purely algebraic reasons, it is a priori impossible to obtain the right individual premium by the usual method of multiplying a common base one by a series of factors (as many, as the personalization variables one has chosen to consider). Finally, I point out that the choice of the said factors, not always made with sufficient respect for the statistical evidences, not only gives rise to serious problems concerning the system’s fairness and transparency, but puts theoretically at risk the Companies management balance.
In the past years, energy consumption has increased rapidly due to many factors, including the rise in technology adoption. This has many downfalls, from higher costs to CO

emissions. Human ...activities in offices and houses represent a considerable amount of energy usage. A digital twin (DT) of an open-plan common space is created, serving the purpose of remote room occupancy monitoring and automatic detection of energy consumption. A virtual reality (VR) model is developed and integrated to temperature, humidity and imaging sensors. For maintaining privacy, images are processed in local computers to measure occupancy levels and live video feed were never transmitted. The same set of imaging sensors were also used in a bespoke computer vision module for energy consumption estimation. The human avatars were mapped with high correlation (R

The objective of this study is to obtain accurate and timely Account Receivables forecasts that can feed into the Cash Flow Forecasting (CFF) for a generic wholesales scenario in a supply chain ...company. The main components of the CFF are the Account Receivables (AR), Account Payables (AP) and Working Capital (WC). The focus of this work is on AR, in particular on how they contribute to the overall cash flow forecasting. The prediction of AR is based on the predicted payment date of each invoice, which can be obtained from the time to payment given the issue date. In this context, we propose the use of discrete survival methods for predicting the time to payment of issued invoices. To obtain more accurate predictions for time to payment, we fit a generalized linear mixed effects model with a time-varying baseline hazard function. This approach provides greater precision for subsequent account receivables predictions compared to the prediction based on simply the payment terms of each invoice, standard time series and classification models, and continuous-time survival methods. We demonstrate the approach on two financial data sets.
