This study was conducted in one of the most turbulent environments, as well as in developing countries, enriching the literature with results from emerging/turbulence and developing countries.
As work and organizational realities become increasingly "post-bureaucratic," the conventional and stable bases of a person's authority-their position, their expertise, or the acquiescence of a ...subordinate-are eroding. This evolution calls us to revise our understanding of authority, and to consider more deeply how it is achieved in contexts that are both fluid and fragmented. Building on a six-month autoethnography of a consulting assignment, we show that authority is a practical, relational, and situated performance. It exists in a tension between two mirroring processes-activation and passivation-through which relations are either leveraged or downplayed to shape the situation and steer collective action. Our study also reveals that the performance of authority involves not just people, but also a broader range of actants, including artifacts and abstract entities. In line with current research on performativity in organizations, our findings contribute to the relational program on authority and the revelation of its sociomaterial dimension. Thus, we provide an action-based understanding of authority that is better suited for the study of post-bureaucratic organizing.
This paper conceptualises a framework that examines the moderating effect of sustainability reporting practices on the relationship between enterprise risk management (ERM) implementation and ...business performance. Business performance is proxied through a value-added measurement technique, namely the economic value added (EVA). An Effective ERM adoption has a significant positive impact on businesses' overall performance. However, there are limited studies conducted on ERM implementation and how sustainability reporting could influence organisations' performance through ERM. Many business organisations globally do not incorporate sustainability initiatives within their corporate strategy, whereas they should be critical input for strategic management and corporate planning. By combining the Stakeholders Theory and the Modern Portfolio Theory, this study integrates ERM implementation with sustainability reporting to examine their effect on business performance's economic value added. This paper proposes a quantitative content analysis of the of the annual reports to obtain information about companies' enterprise risk management practices and sustainability reporting. While secondary data related to the economic value added (EVA) measurement will be extracted from Thomson Reuters DataStream. The paper proposes ordinary least square (OLS) for the proposed analysis. The conceptual model espoused by this study will provide insights in formulating strategies and serve as an important conduit to enhance the EVA performance especially of the oil and gas companies. The EVA performance can be achieved through the improvement of price to earnings ratios and the reduction of cost of capital by reducing information asymmetry among the business, the insurance companies, the lenders and the shareholders of the company.

PurposeThis study aimed to examine and explain the role of knowledge sharing in shaping innovation culture to improve business performance and build sustainable competitive advantage. Most empirical ...research tended to be conducted in large companies, and there are limited studies on this topic in the SME sector. Thus, the study needs to re-examine whether the theories developed to understand large companies apply to SMEs.Design/methodology/approachThis quantitative study involved 259 respondents from a 59 sampling frame consisting of three levels of management of export SMEs in the Bali province of Indonesia. The questionnaire used to gather the data used a semantic differential scale, and the data were analyzed using SmartPLS software.FindingsThe results showed that knowledge sharing significantly influenced innovation culture, business performance and sustainable competitive advantage. Theoretically, this research provides insight into the body of knowledge in innovation culture and business performance as a mediator variable.Research limitations/implicationsCross-sectional design limits the authors from drawing definitive generalizations, and self-reported measures used in the study increase the chances of bias.Practical implicationsThe study's findings could motivate managers and practitioners to place emphasis on knowledge sharing and innovation culture in the SME sector.Originality/valueThe role of knowledge sharing has been focused on large companies in several countries. However, research examining the role of knowledge sharing in building an innovation culture is still rare in the SME sector, particularly in Indonesian SMEs. Therefore, research on this topic is needed because Indonesia has not only a different culture but also different business practices.
The relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and firm performance is among the best–researched topics in entrepreneurship research. These studies have been conducted in various national ...contexts. While a first meta–analysis by Rauch et al. finds no significant difference between EO's effects based on the continent in which the firm is based, the present study considers how national cultural and macroeconomic drivers impact the EO–performance relationship. Building upon 177 studies with data from 41 countries, the meta–analysis consolidates this literature stream, contributing to the evidence–based entrepreneurship research.
The resilience of tourism organizations is an important issue for destinations. While studies examine the social capital of firms, researchers have yet to understand the relationship between social ...capital (structural, relational and cognitive) and organizational resilience as predictors of business performance. This study evaluates these relationships at the interfirm level among tourism organizations in the postdisaster context of Christchurch, New Zealand, where business performance for some tourism operations was severely impacted. Surveys of tourism organizations reveal that structural capital has a positive relationship with both cognitive and relational capital. Only relational capital has an influence on adaptive resilience. Adaptive resilience has a significant influence on business performance. By showing which elements of social capital contribute to adaptive resilience, these findings can be used by tourism organizations in their recovery phase to direct investments in building resilience and strengthening interfirm relationships.
Developing micro, small, and medium enterprises is a significant part of economic development and job creation. Purun and water hyacinth plants are micro-enterprise products that still exist to be ...cultivated by the people of Hulu Sungai Utara. However, the development of micro and small businesses faces problems that can disrupt the performance of micro and small businesses. The performance and success of micro businesses are influenced by various factors (internal and external). One of the internal factors that affect the performance of micro-enterprises is human capital and social capital; on the other hand, external factors that affect the performance of micro-enterprises are the role of the government (empowerment). The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of social capital on the performance of micro-enterprises, analyze the effect of human capital on micro-business performance, analyze the effect of empowerment on the performance of micro-enterprises, and analyze the effect of empowerment on social capital, and human capital on the performance of Purun and water hyacinth woven micro-enterprises in Hulu Sungai Utara District. The research was conducted in Hulu Sungai Utara District from February 2023 to May 2023. The micro-business samples in this study are micro-business actors who produce woven products (Purun and water hyacinth woven). The research sampling technique is non-probability sampling using a census technique with a sample size of 70 respondents. The data analysis used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis. Social capital does not significantly affect the performance of micro businesses. Social capital is reflected through cooperation, trust, and participation. It is due to the condition of the social capital of artisans who tend to be oriented towards maintaining good relations among woven artisans with suppliers of raw materials and collectors. Human capital has a positive and significant influence on business performance. Human capital is reflected through skills and knowledge. It shows that better skills and knowledge of artisans increase their business performance. Empowerment has no significant effect on business performance. It is because empowerment is still not continuous and has yet to be entirely directed to take advantage of business opportunities through empowerment programs.
The era of social media networks has created significant opportunities for business relationship development yet there exists a paucity of research in this area. To address this, this paper ...identifies four key tensions within the current literature: relational versus transactional exchanges, emergent versus strategic social media network development, the pace of social media network formation versus the development of trust, and the notions of sharing and reciprocity versus competitive advantage. This study draws on the principles of netnography, incorporating data from 554 LinkedIn group interactions and 12 interviews with professionals in one global industry to provide insight into business relationship development stemming from one social media network. Significant contributions to theoretical and practical knowledge are made through the recognition of tensions in the literature, the application of the notion of Granovetter's ties to a contemporary context and the novel use of netnography. Furthermore, the resultant model conceptualises the use of social media networking in building networks and relationships which lead to new business and enhance business performance.
