Due to the fall or disappearance of productive circuits, depreciation of populated areas, emigration, abandonment, or critical social situation occurred in Argentine towns - particularly smaller ...ones. Alarmed at the effects, academic organizations and professionals warn about the abandonment of identity ties due to economic problems or the phenomenon of globalization, and organizations and local governments promote cultural activities such as folk festivals to reactivate economies and social life in depressed localities. This question shows actors, processes and conflicts in the organization and realization of events in cities, and we ask ourselves what happens behind these social and territorial phenomena, and what effects they produce. For Tilcara, being a Unesco Heritage portico means being a representative place of natural-tourist and historical-cultural attractions, where globalization transformed the exhibition and the way of living public festive spaces for different political-social interests. These themes here we explore from the theories of performativity, we examine situations that emphasize the effects of doing. Currently, the theories of performativity have been taken by human geography to rethink the social production of space, for these reasons we transfer and reinterpret this performative notion to give birth to little-explored situations in events in spaces.
What does the bust of Luigi Cibrario, who never was a professor, have to do with the rest of scholars present in the gallery of the University building? A wise person would perhaps answer with a ...political interpretation. The marble monument of Cibrario was inspired by a non-scientific need: the necessity of proving that the Risorgimento counted among its actors not only martyrs of patriotic battles but also scholars who fought the enemy with history. Cibrario, Piedmontese and moderate, demonstrated, by proving it, that the House of Savoy was a thoroughly Italian dynasty. He then gained a valid reason for standing among the most acclaimed ones: those who contributed to the nationalization of monarchy. Wether Cibrario’s thesis was scientifically correct, that is another question.
We are launching a series to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first issue of Molecular Biology and Evolution. In 2024, we will publish virtual issues containing selected papers published in the ...Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution journals, Molecular Biology and Evolution and Genome Biology and Evolution. Each virtual issue will be accompanied by a perspective that highlights the historic and contemporary contributions of our journals to a specific topic in molecular evolution. This perspective, the first in the series, presents an account of the broad array of methods that have been published in the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution journals, including methods to infer phylogenies, to test hypotheses in a phylogenetic framework, and to infer population genetic processes. We also mention many of the software implementations that make methods tractable for empiricists. In short, the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution community has much to celebrate after four decades of publishing high-quality science including numerous important inferential methods.
In 2019, the Journal of the Educational Studies (JES) celebrates its 20th anniversary, which is not automatically self-explanatory, not for a Romanian scientific journal in this discipline, and not ...even for any other prestigious scientific journal. Our journal has faced three main challenges in this period: first, the question of language and internationalization, closely linked to the delivery mode, secondly, the changes of the institutional context, and finally, the development of the discipline. In what follows, we will outline the development of the JES according to the challenges mentioned above, give an overview of the topics and structure adopted by the JES for the last 20 years and highlight the contributions to this special edition on the topic of generational and scientific changes in educational research in this period.
This article by a young researcher aims to analyse different phenomena of commemoration in Cyprus. Taking this divided country and society, we wish to highlight the specificity of commemorative ...territories and artefacts, such as memorials and museums in the public space and commemorative processes in and around schools. It will also be necessary to analyse the discourses and ideologies associated with these commemorations. They have effects on the actors involved in these commemorations, ranging from a logic that stirs up hatred and mistrust, to an irenic and reunifying instrumentalization. Finally, a reflection on the globalization of memories will complete the last part of our reflection. Virtual territories take a tangible part in the transmission and commemoration of conflicting history. They also go beyond island borders to spread regionally and globally with the Cypriot diaspora and communities feeling in solidarity in these specific commemorations. They are linked to a financial and touristic logic, which rises new commemorative aims and visions that will be discussed here. The commemoration of the conflicting history in Cyprus seems complexified, trapped by the status quo regarding the Cyprus problem which is still relevant today. There are, however, emerging models of commemoration that will be emphasized here.
