Classical Chinese Poetry (CCP) is a brilliant gem of Chinese literature and has enchanted both Chinese and Western readers with its unique beauty. Translation of CCP, as an approach of cultural ...exchange, has played an indispensable role in introducing Chinese culture to the outside world in an era of globalization. Translators’ style is an important indicator of quality of a translated literary work. It has remained a hot topic of research in literary translation criticism. To evaluate the quality of CCP translation in both qualitative and quantitative manners, a prototype of a CCP Corpus is developed on the basis of computational linguistics and relational database technology. The prototype integrates the relational data model and XML to organize the semi-structured documents of CCP and its translation, and is efficient in retrieving and analyzing data. By making use of this prototype and taking Professor Xu Yuanchong's translation of CCP as a case, the translator's style is investigated in details on the lexical, syntactical and textual levels. The findings indicate that Xu's translation is easily understandable and that he has made great efforts to retain the beauty of meaning, form and sound of CCP in his translation.
Shuang Lu, also known as Ban Sugoroku, is an ancient board game from China. It is believed to have been transmitted along the Silk Road in the 3rd century. While there are numerous references to ...Shuang Lu in Chinese anecdotes, legends and literary works, there is little literature detailing the rules of the game. Shuang Lu is also depicted in classical Chinese poetry, which mainly describes the enjoyment of the game. This paper aims to analyse the content of the Han poem Xi Jiang Yue: Da Shuang Lu Li in the Southern Song literature, Shilin Guangji. Through the analysis of the poem, the study seeks to explore the initial strategies of Shuang Lu derived from classical Chinese poetry.
Članek predstavlja vsebinsko analizo Su Shijeve (1037‒1101) pesmi "Sliki Wang Weija in Wu Daozija". The evolution of classical Chinese poetry in Singapore is closely related to the immigration experience of Chinese intellectuals in various periods. The travelogues of the foreign trips by Chinese ...officials dispatched to Singapore in the late Qing dynasty, such as Zuo Binglong 左秉隆 and Huang Zunxian 黃遵憲, focused on the depiction of exotic landscapes and aimed to open up horizons. The poems written by Khoo Seok Wan 邱菽園 and Pan Shou 潘受, and numerous works published in local newspapers from the period before the Second World War to the 1970s, represented the highest achievement of characteristically classical Chinese poetry in Singapore. After the 1980s, the new type of poetry writing reflected in the "Xin Sheng Poetry Society" (Xin sheng shi she 新聲詩社) and poetic columns online was characterized by diversity in the path of communication and the choice of subject matter, as well as an overall decline in creative quality. This article attempts to present the different stages of classical Chinese poetry in Singapore and its features over the course of the century within the context of Sinophone literature.
The classical Chinese poetry is a remarkable form of art in traditional Chinese character. However, it is difficult for people who are unfamiliar with ancient Chinese to experience the artistic ...content of the poetry. In this study, a sonification scheme,
Tx2Ms (Text-to-Music)
, is proposed to extract the poetry features between lines in verses; moreover, dynamics and interval relations are modeled to map those features to the movement of multi-dimensional musical elements such as durations. This conversion is based on poetry intonation and acoustic analysis of the pronunciations of poems; and a stochastic compositional algorithm is created by applying a Markov chain. In addition, the best pentatonic mode for a specific poem is recommended according to the formants analysis. Therefore, the sonification of classical Chinese poetry not only provides a novel way for people to appreciate Chinese poetry but also enriches the state of mind and imagery in the delivery process, and the experiment results show that the proposed system is successfully accepted by most people.
