Forecasting has always been at the forefront of decision making and planning. The uncertainty that surrounds the future is both exciting and challenging, with individuals and organisations seeking to ...minimise risks and maximise utilities. The large number of forecasting applications calls for a diverse set of forecasting methods to tackle real-life challenges. This article provides a non-systematic review of the theory and the practice of forecasting. We provide an overview of a wide range of theoretical, state-of-the-art models, methods, principles, and approaches to prepare, produce, organise, and evaluate forecasts. We then demonstrate how such theoretical concepts are applied in a variety of real-life contexts.
We do not claim that this review is an exhaustive list of methods and applications. However, we wish that our encyclopedic presentation will offer a point of reference for the rich work that has been undertaken over the last decades, with some key insights for the future of forecasting theory and practice. Given its encyclopedic nature, the intended mode of reading is non-linear. We offer cross-references to allow the readers to navigate through the various topics. We complement the theoretical concepts and applications covered by large lists of free or open-source software implementations and publicly-available databases.
Learning media is an essential element to support the success of learning activities. It is used stimulate the thoughts, feelings, attention, and interest of students to learn. Learning media can be ...developed by adding concepts and photos from the results of a research. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of the encyclopedia of circulatory system diseases and disorders as a learning media. The content of encyclopedia contains the result from the inventory of medicinal plants for hypertension at Babane Village, Bengkayang, Indonesia. This study applied a research and development method. This development procedure refers to the Sugiyono development model, which consists of five stages namely potential and problems, data collection, product design, design validation, and design revision. The validity of the encyclopedia was obtained through content validation executed by five experts in the field of both biology and learning media. Encyclopedia validation is reviewed from four aspects: content, presentation, language, and graphics. Validation analysis applied the Lawshe's content validity ratio (CVR) and content validity index (CVI) approach. The results showed that the average of CVR was 1.00 which result in the CVI value of 1.00 in the "valid" category. This study aims to create a toponymy-based Digital Encyclopedia of the Cirebon City area which has biological elements so that it can be used as a learning resource for Plantae material for class X ...SMA/MA which is suitable for use in learning. This type of research is Research and Development (RD) using the ADDIE model. The results showed that there were 9 toponyms with biological elements in the form of plant names in Harjamukti District and Kesambi District in the Cirebon City area. The development of research results into learning resources on Plantae material in the form of a Digital Encyclopedia made using software called Sketchware. The Digital Encyclopedia created and developed in the form of an application can be run on smartphones with the Android operating system. The Digital Encyclopedia is suitable for use as a learning resource for Plantae Class X SMA/MA based on validation tests and teacher and student responsesABSTRAK: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat Ensiklopedia Digital berbasis toponimi wilayah Kota Cirebon yang memiliki unsur biologis sehingga dapat dijadikan sumber belajar pada materi Plantae kelas X SMA/MA yang layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Research and Development (RD) dengan menggunakan model ADDIE. Abstract
Wikipedia is by far the largest online encyclopedia, and the number of errors it contains is on par with the professional sources even in specialized topics such as biology or medicine. Yet, ...the academic world is still treating it with great skepticism because of the types of inaccuracies present there, the widespread plagiarism from Wikipedia, and historic biases, as well as jealousy regarding the loss of the knowledge dissemination monopoly. This article argues that it is high time not only to acknowledge Wikipedia's quality but also to start actively promoting its use and development in academia.
This study emphasized on the importance of teaching materials to improve the culture of scientific literacy in science learning through encyclopedic books. Thus, there was a scientific literacy among ...students and between teachers and students through a teaching material. The encyclopedic teaching materials were tailored to the students' interests aiming to create a culture of scientific literacy. The purpose of this study was to determine the learning outcomes and scientific literacy abilities of fifth grade students after using encyclopedic teaching materials. The research method used in this study was action research in which the researchers acted as collaborators while teachers as implementers of action. This study was conducted at 3 elementary schools in West Jakarta. The object was the science subject at grade V of elementary school which was developed in the form of encyclopedic teaching materials. This study resulted in an increase in science learning especially about human movement system, human respiratory system, and human circulatory system, which utilized an encyclopedic teaching materials. It was recommended that teachers could cultivate the students’ literacy through encyclopedic teaching materials on other subjects in order to facilitate students in the learning process.

went through a major crisis between 2010 and 2014, as the
transformation to the new, digital reality became commercially ...unviable to the
publishing house that owned it. The country’s universities came together,
formed The Great Norwegian Encyclopedia Association, and created a new
editorial team, which has transformed the encyclopedia into an online success
with high-quality articles assessed and updated by some of Norway’s leading
scholars. The partnership with academia, a purpose-made publishing software, a
decentralized production model, and confidence in the original brand have been
keys to building this public service encyclopedia that other, likeminded
institutions across Europe can learn from.
Nakon više od 100 godina postojanja,
Velika norveška enciklopedija
doživjela
je veliku krizu u razdoblju od 2010. do 2014. jer je tranzicija u novu,
digitalnu stvarnost postala komercijalno neodrživom za njezina izdavača. Stoga
je zajedničkom inicijativom norveških sveučilišta osnovano udruženje Great
Norwegian Encyclopedia Association te novo uredništvo. Ono je preobrazilo
enciklopediju u uspješno online izdanje s ažuriranim, visokokvalitetnim
člancima koje su razmotrili i ažurirali vodeći norveški znanstvenici.
Partnerstvo s akademskom zajednicom, namjenski softver, decentralizirani model
proizvodnje i pozitivna reputacija izvornoga izdanja pokazali su se ključnima
za izgradnju ove opće enciklopedije, čije bi iskustvo moglo biti od velike
koristi za institucije sličnih namjera diljem Europe.
