Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the level of understanding and practice of community-based integrated nursing fourth-year students who graduated in 2015 and 2018. This paper will also ...discuss the achievement of nursing education based on community-based integrated nursing and future challenges facing undergraduate nursing education.Methods: A self-administered questionnaire survey regarding the level of understanding and practice of community-based integrated nursing was conducted on 4th year students who graduated in 2015 and 2018. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test.Results: 59 responded in 2015 (response rate 73%) and 65 in 2018 (response rate 88%). The rate of students responding that they were competent was significantly higher among the 4th year students of 2018 than 2015 in both understanding and practice of community-based integrated nursing. However, the rate of responses stating that they were competent in life skills and outpatient nursing was low.Conclusion: The higher levels of self-evaluation by 4th year students on understanding and practice in 2018 than in 2015 suggest the beneficial outcome of four years of accumulated education centered on community-based integrated nursing. An improved curriculum designed to improve life skills and outpatient nursing practice will be required in the future.
Objective: To have nursing students of A University self-evaluate their understanding of nursing activities focused on community living, and to compare results by academic year. Method: A group ...administered questionnaire was conducted on a total of 237 nursing students. Students were in either their first, second or third year of school. The questionnaire contained 27 items including understanding and practice of nursing activities focused on community living. Responses to each item were scored as follows: “cannot understand/cannot perform,”1 point; “understands/can perform only insufficiently,”2 points; “understands/can perform fairly well,”3 points; “understands/can perform well,”4 points. The mean scores for each item per each school year were calculated, and the results were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and multiple comparison (p< 0.05). Result: The number of valid responses to the questionnaire was 211 (valid response rate: 97.2%). The depth of understanding was within the score range of 3 for all items among the second- and third-year students; among the first-year students, however, the number of items that fell in this score range was significantly lower, at 7. The second- and third-year students showed significantly higher scores than the first-year students for 10 items. The degree of practice achieved fell within the score range of 3 for 10 items among the third-year students; among the first- and second-year students, the degree of practice achieved fell within the score range of 2 for all items; there were no items for which the score was 3 or higher. The scores obtained by the third-year students were higher than those obtained by the first-year students for all items, and also higher than those obtained by the second-year students for 9 items. Conclusion: Two years have passed since the start of nursing education reform. We believe the effects of educational reform have begun to materialize.
BACKGROUNDLung cancer is a clinical disease with multiple malignant tumors. Currently, it is difficult for patients to benefit from routine clinical nursing due to the lack of a pertinent and ...systematic approach. AIMTo investigate the effect of integrated nursing care on the negative emotions and satisfaction of lung cancer patients. METHODSFrom January 2018 to December 2019, 92 patients with lung cancer were selected and divided into the study group and the control group; there were 46 patients in each group. The control group received routine nursing, and the study group received integrated medical care in addition to the care received by the control group. Negative emotions before and after the intervention, the self-management ability score after the intervention, family care burden after the intervention and nursing satisfaction after the intervention were measured in the two groups. RESULTSAfter the intervention, the self-rating anxiety scale and self-rating depression scale scores in the study group were lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05); the scores for health knowledge, self-concept, self-responsibility and self-care skills in the study group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05); the scores for individual burden and responsibility burden in the study group were lower than those before the intervention (P < 0.05); and the nursing satisfaction in the study group (93.48%) was higher than that in the control group (78.26%, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONAn integrated nursing care approach for lung cancer patients can effectively relieve the patient's negative feelings, improve their self-management ability, help to reduce the burden of family care and improve patient satisfaction with nursing activities.

The aim of the present paper was to establish and implement an integrated nursing management model for patients with newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) based on the Omaha System and to explore its impact on blood glucose levels, quality of life, and diabetes knowledge in these patients.
A non-randomized concurrent controlled trial was designed and the study was conducted in a hospital on the east coast of China between September 2013 and November 2015. We screened for patients with newly-diagnosed T2DM in 12 clinics of 3 comprehensive hospitals. A total of 367 patients with newly-diagnosed T2DM were assigned into two groups. In the intervention group, patients received routine outpatient care plus integrated nursing management; in the control group, only routine outpatient care was given. Changes in blood glucose levels, quality of life, and diabetes knowledge in both groups before the intervention and 6 months after the intervention were observed and compared.
At the 6months, blood glucose levels, quality of life, and diabetes knowledge in the intervention group were significantly superior to those in the control group (all P<0.01).
The integrated nursing management model was able to improve patients’ glucose levels, quality of life, and diabetes knowledge.

This paper summarized the integrated nursing of traditional Chinese and western medicine for a patient undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) supported by intra-aortic balloon pump(IABP) ...for cardiogenic shock acute caused by anterior myocardial infarction. Key issues of nursing included symptomatic nursing, acupoint application, auricular point pressing therapy, oral care with Chinese herbal medicine were carried during the treatment period. The integrated nursing measures were potentially effective to improve the patient’s satisfaction and reduce the risk of complications. Objective: Hospital nursing staffs are required to engage in community-based integrated nursing practice as the Japanese government promotes "aging-in-place" strategies and the construction of ...community-based integrated care systems. The aim of this study was to clarify the current situation regarding recognition of the Community-based nursing practice supervisor training program (extension program), and the Community-based nursing leader training course (graduate program) among university hospital nursing staffs. Methods: An anonymous, self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted with 751 nursing staffs at A-University Hospital. Results: A total of 674 questionnaires were returned (89.7% response rate), with 667 questionnaires analyzed (98.9% valid response rate). Altogether, 305 respondents (45.7%) knew the extension program and 395 respondents (59.2%) knew the graduate course, while 149 respondents (22.3%) were interested in or considering enrolling in the extension program, and 119 respondents (17.8%) in the graduate course. The main reason for hesitation was uncertainty about managing both work and study. A total of 231 respondents (34.6%) knew about "the Home Care Mind Concept". Conclusion: The study suggested that knowledge dissemination activities using the cooperation system of the university hospital nursing department and the university for development of community-based integrated nursing personnel could raise motivation for enrolling in recurrent education programs.

This study aimed to evaluate the outcome of undergraduate nursing education centered on community-based integrated nursing by comparing the level of understanding and practice of community-based ...integrated nursing between students with (University A) and without (Universities B and C) reinforcement of such educational initiatives, and to discuss future challenges facing undergraduate nursing education. A self-administered four-point evaluation survey was conducted on students newly enrolled in Universities A, B, and C in 2015. A survey consisting of 15 items on “understanding” was implemented at the end of the 1st and 4th year, and a survey consisting of 12 items on “practice” was implemented at the end of the 4th year. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test, as well as residual analysis. Regarding “understanding,” of the 11 items with no significant differences among 1st-year students, the proportion of 4th-year students who responded that they were competent was significantly higher in University A in six items. Regarding “practice”, the proportion of 4th-year students who responded that they were competent was significantly higher in University A in four items. Self-evaluation of “life skills” and “outpatient nursing” was low for all respondents. The results suggest a beneficial outcome of education centered on community-based integrated nursing. An improved curriculum designed to foster life skills and outpatient nursing practice will be required in the future.
