The authors of the volume ('From May ’68 to November ’89: Transformations of the World, Literature, and Theory') intervene in the study of the student movement’s “rehearsal” for a world revolution ...and its afterlife in the 1980s and 1990s by addressing two hitherto neglected aspects – the literary and the peripheral. They consider the roles played by the (semi-)periphery of the modern world-system, on the one hand, and modernist literature and theory, on the other, in transforming the existing world order in the fields of culture, politics, economy, and everyday life. How were critical theory and neo-avant-garde literature in the world, in Slovenia, and in Yugoslavia intertwined with the student protest that advocated the transformation of the capitalist world-system and its socialist counterpart? The monograph focuses on the processes that connected the events of 1968 and 1989 in the social, literary, and theoretical spheres in the sign of continuity and turning points, and at the same time defined our contemporary world.
Important anniversaries of prominent historians have become traditional opportunities for the gift to the celebrator in the form of scientific contributions from his colleagues and the colleagues who ...have worked with him fruitfully or are still doing so. Marušičev zbornik is a tribute to one of the leading historians of the Slovene region in contact with its western neighbors, historian prof. Branko Marušič at the age of 80. He has created a very important oeuvre, while outlining basic research directions, which some have continued to gain. One of the prominent results of this “scientific transfer” is the present scientific monograph, with the highly significant subtitle, Zgodovinopisec zahodnega roba (The Historian of West Edge). In a single volume, it represents the contribution of different generations of historians to new insights into the history of coastal space, especially that of the borderland, which throughout history has encountered coexistence with “the other.” Different historical sources and their careful analyzes and interpretations, which the authors place in different time contexts, contribute to new or original scientific knowledge. The monograph is actual and important for the development of historiography, also because of the development of Slovenian scientific terminology.
The second edition of the book by archaeologist Ivan Šprajc, a considerably enlarged version of the first edition published in 2009, is a first-person narrative of his explorations in the Maya area. ...Written by a distinguished expert and published in German in 2015, with an English translation currently in press in the USA, it is an adventurous story presenting in a reader-friendly way the incidents, difficulties, dangers, and triumphs experienced by an archaeologist in the tropical forest of southeastern Mexico. The thematically rounded episodes following the chronological order of Sprajc's expeditions include interesting information about the life of the ancient Maya, about their settlements, economy, social order, religious life, politics, and the emergence, development, and collapse of their civilization, as well as about the lives of their modern descendants, the technological advances of archaeology, and Mexico's concern for cultural heritage. The book is equipped with an overview map and a wealth of photographic material.Publication of this book was made possible by generous gifts from Slovenian supporters of Šprajc’s expeditions: Abanka, Ars longa, Adria kombi, and National Geographic Slovenia (Rokus Klett Publishing House).
