Technological advancements have generated a strong interest in exploring learner behavior data through learning analytics to provide both learner and instructor with process-oriented feedback in the ...form of dashboards. However, little is known about the typology of dashboard feedback relevant for different learning goals, learners and teachers. While most dashboards and the feedback that they give are based only on learner performance indicators, research shows that effective feedback needs also to be grounded in the regulatory mechanisms underlying learning processes and an awareness of the learner's learning goals. The design artefact presented in this article uses a conceptual model that visualizes the relationships between dashboard design and the learning sciences to provide cognitive and behavioral process-oriented feedback to learners and teachers to support regulation of learning. A practical case example is given that demonstrates how the ideas presented in the paper can be deployed in the context of a learning dashboard. The case example uses several analytics/visualization techniques based on empirical evidence from earlier research that successfully tested these techniques in various learning contexts.
•Little is known about the typology of dashboard feedback.•Most dashboards feedback are based only on learner performance.•The work grounds the dashboard design on learning science concepts.•The design aims at cognitive and behavioral process-oriented feedback.•A case example is given that demonstrates how the ideas can be deployed.
The study aimed to determine the role of the habituation process of crossbred beef calves to corral handling on their reactivity, welfare and performance. Thirty-nine calves aged 87.69 ± 19.93 days ...were randomly divided into two treatments according to their weight, sex, and reactivity, as follows: 1) calves habituated to corral handling (HAB, N = 21) and 2) calves not habituated to corral handling, control group (NHAB, N = 18). The habituation process to corral handling was performed for 15 minutes twice a week for two weeks to reduce the animals' flight distance from humans. Calves' reactivities were scored when keeping them inside a scale and a squeeze chute (by applying scores ranging from 1 to 5 in both situations) and by scoring the speed at which they exited the squeeze chute (1 = walking or 2 = trotting and running). The assessments of physiological (heart rate, respiratory rate, and rectal temperature) and performance (average weight gain and weaning weight adjusted to 205d) indicators were carried out before (d-10), just after (d17) and 150 days after finishing the habituation process (d150). Mixed linear models were used to evaluate the fixed effects of treatments, assessment moments, and sex on most dependent variables, except for flight speed, which was analyzed using the Chi-square test. The HAB calves showed lower reactivity scores in d17 and 150 than NHAB calves in both measurements, scale and squeeze chute. Furthermore, a higher percentage of HAB calves exited the squeeze chute walking than NHAB calves in d17 and d150 (62 % vs 11 % and 24 % vs 5 %, respectively). None of the physiological variables was affected significantly by treatments. HAB calves showed greater ADG (p=0.0007) and reached a higher adjusted weaning weight to 205d (p=0.004) than NHAB calves. In conclusion, habituation to corral handling reduces reactivity and improves the performance of crossbred beef calves.
•Beef calves' habituation reduces their reactivity and facilitate handling.•Habituating beef calves to handling improve their performance.•Habituating beef calves to handling has potential to promote their welfare.
The purpose of this study is to assess the offline and online learning process at Namlea State Primary School 5 (SDN 5 Namlea) during the Covid-19 pandemic and to identify the teacher's approach for ...integrating offline and online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic at SDN 5 Namlea. This study employed a qualitative descriptive methodology with a phenomenological approach. Principals, instructors, students in Classes I, III, IV, and VI, and students in Classes III, IV, and V served as data sources for both primary and secondary data. This research employs nonparticipant observation employing field survey techniques (field study), interviews (interviews), documentary studies, and literature studies as its methodology. During the Covid-19 epidemic, the results of the study demonstrate that the offline and online learning processes at SDN 5 Namlea are very efficient and effective. The school incorporates offline learning through 1) shift (alternating teaching and learning), 2) television, 3) study groups, and 4) home visits. In the process of online education, teachers utilize two media platforms, namely WhatsApp and YouTube. During the Covid-19 pandemic, SDN 5 Namlea implemented offline and online learning strategies by 1) conducting learning activities (Blended Learning, Offline, Online); 2) using technological facilities such as gadgets, laptops, internet, and wifi; and 3) utilizing application media, namely WhatsApp and YouTube.
The learning process should be an active activity for students to build their understanding. Even so, there are still many students who look bored and lack enthusiasm. The effort that needs to be ...done by the teacher is by giving rewards and ice breaker. This study aims to determine the impact of giving rewards and ice breakers on the learning process at SDN 04 Karangtengah, Cibadak District, Sukabumi Regency. This study used a type of qualitative research where the subjects in this study were teachers and fourth grade students. Data collection was carried out by observation and interview techniques with research instruments in the form of observation sheets and interview sheets. The results showed that the provision of rewards and ice breakers had a very good impact on the learning process in class IV SDN 04 Karangtengah. Thus it can be concluded that giving rewards and ice breakers is able to arouse student learning motivation so that it also has an impact on cognitive learning outcomes. Giving rewards and ice breakers can bring out the enthusiasm of students in learning, learning becomes more competitive, collaborative, and varied so that students return to concentrate and actively participate in learning.
