If we understand Catalan as a pluricentric language, its dictionaries should be representative of all its varieties. Having looked up noi-xic-af.lot in various dictionaries, our interest focuses on ...the conception of norm applied by normative dictionaries of Catalan and the question as to whether the lexicographic result reflects the pluricentrism of Catalan.
The article compares new foreign neologisms in the 19th and 21st century Hungarian and Russian dictionaries. Hence, not only two linguistic cultures, but also two historical periods come under ...scrutiny. To identify new loanwords, the corpora of major Russian and Hungarian dictionaries were compiled. The study analyses methods used in lexicographic description of new words in Hungarian and Russian dictionaries within the specified period. It also focuses on general observations made on specific linguistic material. A dictionary-based corpus (corpus in a square) proved to be effective in diachronic studies. It helped to reveal the main trends in lexical borrowing in two unrelated languages. Corpora provide data on the word origin from different time periods, the first inclusion of a lexical item, its origin, meaning, semantic evolution and thematic nearness, statistical data, etc. The scope of available data depends on the level of lexicographic description. It was found to be very different for the 19th and 21st century dictionaries with more extensive data provided by the latter. The study shows that corpora can be an important first step in linguistic research across a range of avenues.
The paper presents the diachronic and synchronic analysis of the use of Croatian words spol and rod and their Croatian Church Slavonic (polь, spolь, and rodь) and English (sex and gender) ...equivalents. The starting points for diachronic analysis are dictionaries and dictionary data, while the synchronic analysis is additionally based on the corpora and the Internet. The paper focuses on dictionary definitions of nouns rod and spol, adjectives rodni and spolni, the relation of Croatian terms rod and spol with English terms gender and sex, the terminology of sex/gender (non)discrimination, and ways of speaking about persons of non-binary gender.
Posebna je pozornost posvećena prijedlogu rječničkih definicija roda i spola, odnosu hrvatskih naziva rod i spol s engleskim nazivima sex i gender, nazivlju spolne/rodne nediskriminacije i govoru o spolno/rodno nebinarnim osobama.

This paper is a conceptual supplement sui generis, the aim of which is to present a modified treatment of proper names and deproprial expressions in the Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech ...(ADCC). The focus of the study is both a reflection on the past and current lexicographical practice and a discussion of the key issues related to the treatment of the respective lexical subsystem in the dictionary. First, we summarize the basic facts concerning the lexicographic processing of proprial and deproprial lexical units in the field of explanatory lexicography. Second, we provide some more general information about the ADCC and, most importantly, about the macrostructure and microstructure of the dictionary in reference to the topic of the present study. We focus on the inclusion of proprial and deproprial entries in the ADCC and the specific treatment of proper names contained in phrasemes. Special attention is paid to the microstructure of proprial and deproprial entries, as well.
This book investigates an important but under-researched aspect of dictionary making: the use of a controlled vocabulary in definitions. The main concern of the author is the role of a definition ...vocabulary in how foreign learners understand and perceive dictionary definitions. The author takes the reader through a detailed historical account of controlled vocabularies and examines definitions in a range of English dictionaries with respect to their vocabulary loads. He performs a series of experiments with university students to reveal merits and shortcomings of restricted vocabularies. This monograph has been written with the aim to fill a gap in the literature on defining vocabulary. It is intended for lexicographers, dictionary editors, course designers, teachers, and students, as well as anyone who wishes to explain words in an intelligible way.
