The objective of the article is to analyze how divorced women construct their postdivorce status and describe ways of overcoming divorce and finding new meaning in life. The interviewees were people ...whose identity as married women had been largely based on the celebrity status of their ex-husbands. The analysis of interview material published in Eesti Naine (Estonian Woman) from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s demonstrates that the approach toward the subject of divorce has changed considerably—from ignoring it in the 1980s to outspoken stories including full names in the second half of the 1990s. The study indicated that divorced women interviewed for the magazine reconstructed their postdivorce identities by using three main types of narrative—success stories, sad stories, and stories constructed around postdivorce parenthood. Our study suggests that there is interplay between changes in the social context and attitudes toward divorce and postdivorce status.

This article will discuss, based on the study of the magazine Verbo of Argentina during the years of the dictatorship (1976-1983), ideas that Catholics from right about the universities and centers ...of research of Argentina in particular, and Latin America had in general. Verbo was the organ of diffusion of the organization called Ciudad Católica which had origins in France and international ramifications. More precisely, in this paper we show how these Catholics who wrote in Verbo – clerics, Argentines and foreigners, attempted to “collaborate” with “anti-subversive fight” that was going on, denouncing, on the one hand, the “advancement” of “communism” among scientists and universities in Argentina and “Latin America”; and on the other hand, the “penetration Marxist” within the Catholic universities.
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the representation of women managers through a content analysis of related magazine articles within the hospitality industry in the Maldives. Evidence suggests ...an increase in the number of working women, yet there is relative neglect toward identifying issues involving women in the industry.
Design/methodology/approach
Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used to content-analyze the narrative on the sampled articles from a Maldives-based hospitality magazine, Hotelier Maldives. Qualitative content analysis and quantitative methods report on the challenges faced by women managers and reasons for their success based on the narratives.
Findings
This study revealed that although women managers are underrepresented in management, there has been a broad increase in the participation of women within the industry. This study falsified the perception that gender is a limiting factor to hold senior positions in the hospitality industry and that increased participation of women managers may be driven by the changing social and cultural contexts.
Originality/value
This study is one of the first to examine how women managers are represented in hospitality magazines. Despite its relevance, previous tourism research has not focused on this kind of measurement.
Spy vs. Spy was a seminal part of Mad Magazine, and was popular in no small part due to its wordless nature of telling stories which were both futile as well as neutral in the outcome. At the same ...time, the history of the creator, Antonio Prohias, was one of political struggle, freedom of speech, and the intense hatred of all things communist by the US intelligence community. This essay looks at the development of Spy vs Spy, the similarities of the stories to the real plots to kill Castro, and the legacy of the feature even to the current day.
This paper focuses upon intertextuality in Nabokov’s Lolita, but not through literary allusion. Instead, this study analyzes the way the author integrates non-literary material taken from post-World ...War 2 American mass culture into the textual fabric. Thanks to the preparatory notes to the novel kept at the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress, one can compare the way Nabokov weaves the non-literary elements into the fabric of his writing with his more traditional intertextual practice, so as to define the role of popular culture in his aesthetics.
The issue of enhancing the use of language code switching technique in modern creolized advertising texts is discussed in the article. The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the expansion of the ...areas of language interaction and the change in tactics for contacting the addressee of advertising due to the process of globalization, the popularization of the English language in the world, the emergence of new communication channels, the mobility of visual images, and the clip’s perception of information by the recipient. The actual material of the study was creolized advertising texts from seven Russian international glossy magazines: “Cosmopolitan”, “Elle”, “Glamor”, “GQ”, “InStyle”, “Tatler”, and “Vogue”. It is proved that foreign inclusions in the considered texts are presented in several ways of varying degrees of productivity: insertion of a foreign language grapheme (formation of graphogibrids); use of the word in the Latin script (astionyms, burials, pragmatonyms, English preposition since , etc.); the introduction of one or more statements in a foreign language; inclusion of a hashtag in latin graphics. The listed types of foreign inclusions are attributed by the author to signal (intentionally introduced into the texts with the aim of accentuation of units or their elements) and multifunctional (capable of performing attractive, accent-emphasizing, utilitarian-compressive, emotionally-expressive, suggestive, informative functions).
