The purpose of this study is to investigate the general trends of master dissertations written in Social Studies Education and performed in 2008-2014 years in terms of thematic and methodology. ...Document review was performed in study. The study group was included in all the master's thesis recorded at thesis database of Higher Education Council established in Turkey. Through this database, we obtained 423 theses to open access for the readers. For data analysis, descriptive analysis was used. Accordingly, firstly, 423 master thesis were classified into themes by study areas regarding social studies. Then, methodological processes such as the research method, the audience, the statistical and qualitative data analysis methods, and the studies of validity and reliability used in research were examined using frequency and percentile. The findings of this study indicate that the theme most studied is about Teaching Practices; the research method most used is survey method; as the audience, theses mostly rely on middle school students. It reveals also an evidence that expert opinion was employed for validation and Cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated for reliability at most. Furthermore, findings display that researchers have used Parametric Difference Tests in their master thesis.

In the last years, we have been observing very important changes in translation markets. The constantly developing new technologies but also the new challenges of the labor market force us to ...redefine the image and role of contemporary translators, from whom ever new competences are required. The translators’ training programs must respond to this reality, providing them with the opportunity to adapt to the changes taking place. In this article, the author presents the evolution of the approach to competences taught in the framework of programs accepted for the EMT network from 2008 till 2019. In this context, she analyzes the academic dimension of professional training, and – more specifically – focuses on the effects of teaching in the context of a master’s seminar, which is a compulsory element of the study program. She shows that educational tasks properly set within this module are closely related to the challenges faced by research universities as defined by the new law concerning higher education and science adopted in Poland on 10.07.2018.
ABSTRACTThis study is aimed at investigating the rhetorical structure of Introduction chapters of English master theses written by Indonesian postgraduate students and identifying the frequency of ...communicative moves and their constituent steps as well as finding how the students justify their research projects reported in their Introduction chapters. The research design was mixed method research combining quantitative and qualitative method. Twenty Introduction chapters of English master theses were taken from two different fields; English language education and applied linguistics, and they were analyzed using checklists. The results: (1) three moves and fifteen steps are found in the introduction chapters of master theses and three newly identified steps other than those specified in Bunton’s are also found in the corpus of this study and (2) three moves are considered obligatory moves, seven steps are classified as obligatory, four Steps are conventional and seven Steps are optional. Further, the majority of Indonesian postgraduate students tend to rhetorically justify their research project based on the knowledge gap found in the literature. This study concludes that the move and step model suggested by Bunton (2002) and modified from Swales’ CARS is effective enough to capture the possible rhetorical structure of introduction chapter of master thesis written by Indonesian postgraduate students. How to Cite: Pujiyanti, I. ABSTRACT The discussion section is considered the most important section of a thesis but also the most difficult to write especially by university students. This study investigated the move-step and ...rhetorical pattern of discussion section in 20 English Master Theses written by Indonesian EFL postgraduate students. Following the model suggested by Loan and Pramoolsook (2015), this study found that students constructed the discussion section according to their perceived communicative purposes of discussion section. The most noticeable feature of the section is the occurrence of Move 2 (reporting results) and Move 4 (Commenting on results) occurring in all texts making them obligatory moves. In terms of step, interpreting results and referring to other studies in Move 4 are also considered as obligatory steps. The findings of this study are useful particularly for EFL students; that is to facilitate them to better understand the rhetorical structure of thesis discussion section when written in English. Writing a master's thesis is challenging and involves a significant investment of time and intellect. It can also be generated by an impassioned drive, especially when shared by an advisor who ...encourages personal creativity in the subject matter. This reflection paper draws on such an experience by a Smith alumna, class of 1977. It addresses the influence of great mentorship on a thesis subject derived from two deeply held interests, the poetry of Anne Sexton, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, and her suicide at age 47, and the clinical relevance of messages revealed within particular forms of personal narrative.
The aim of this study is to determine the frequencies and sequences of rhetorical move and steps with respect to introduction sections of applied/descriptive master theses in the field of Turkish ...language education. The population of the study is 339 applied/descriptive master theses in the field of Turkish language education which were scanned in the National Thesis Center of Higher Education Council. Ten percent (f=34) of the theses were evaluated with the method of systematic sampling. The study was based on Swales’s (1990) model which is widely accepted in the literature. However, in this study, master theses were examining whereas Swales was examining research articles. Because of this, it was seen that Swales’s model was sufficient for move level, but not sufficient for step level. For this reason, some steps which proposed by Bunton (2002) added to Swales’s steps. The last form of the occured move and steps list was presented to three faculty members who are experts in the field of textlinguistics. After taking the experts’ opinions, theses were examined according to rhetorical move and steps’ list. In the study, content analysis was used. Expertisation method was used for raising the study’s persuasiveness. These are the basic results obtained in the study: With respect to introduction, Establishing a territory and Occupying the niche are conventional moves; Establishing a niche is optional move. It was obtained that in introduction sections linear presentation was not preferred and there wasn’t a dominant sequence. In addition to this, it was seen that there was a tendency at the closing moves.
Like many engineering programs in Europe, the final part of most Swedish software engineering programs is a longer project in which the students write a Master’s thesis. These projects are often ...conducted in cooperation between a university and industry, and the students often have two supervisors, one at the university and one in industry. In particular, the Bologna Process that is currently underway to align different higher educational programs in Europe, discusses industrial Master’s theses as a major type of thesis project. However, there is a lack of knowledge on how best to support these projects and the different stakeholders involved. This paper presents a study where students and supervisors from software engineering Master’s thesis projects at three different Swedish universities are interviewed. The intention of the study is to explore what the major problems of different stakeholders are during a project, and to investigate what type of support is needed. Based on the interview results, a support model is defined, which outlines the different types of support that are needed for different roles in Master’s thesis projects.
"This master thesis explores service characteristics that are relevant for book readers when they evaluate a service as well as starting points for providers when they plan to optimize their services ...from a customer’s point of view. In the first part ways of accessing books (buying, borrowing, rent) and the reading behavior of Germans will be described. Then the concept “quality of provision” of books will be discussed which distinguishes five quality dimensions of a service: diversity of content and arranging of books, basic technology (printed book or digital environment), temporal and spatial access, costs of access and ease of use. By using secondary material for each dimension individual quality characteristics will be identified. Next the theoretical background of the activity theory and a special way of thinking, the customer-dominant-logic, from the Nordic school will be explained briefly. Based on this a set of consumer activities related to books will be presented and some activities that are relevant for the work will be described in more detail by means of secondary material (reading books, choosing books, organizing books and information). Further customization and personalization will be proposed as strategies for individualization of services and their function for consumers will be explained. The secondary data used in the work comes from empirical data out of consumer surveys in libraries and bookshops, nationally representative surveys and from results of academic research from different fields. In the final part of this thesis an own data collection will be conducted by using a content analysis of consumer comments of two e-book rental apps (n = 1,245 comments). The analysis should clarify, if the quality characteristics, the book-related activities and the strategies for individualization described before can be found in everyday reality of consumers. After that the results of the content analysis will be presented. Finally the major findings will be summarized and connected to the research questions."
One of the primary aim of education is to train individuals as problem solvers to overcome and face problems in life. Problem solving has been the hallmark of the era we are in and takes a vital ...place in the objectives of all courses in education. Therefore, many studies were carried on and is still being done. In this context, the purpose of this study is to shed light to the future researches about mathematical problem solving by making an overall assessment of masters thesis and dissertations in this subject in Turkey. For this purpose 65 master thesis and dissertations retrieved from the thesis centre in the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YOK) were examined. The study was limited to the years 2006-2013 and with the master thesis and dissertations including “problem solving” term in their title. Researches included in this study were investigated according to the research methodology, publication year, publication type, sampling type, institution of the author and thesis's/dissertation's director's title. The results of the analysis would help researchers to see the current research trends and provide insight into future research related to problem solving.
