Obsolete models, lack of professionalisation and an environment characterised by continuous changes have turned out to be a dangerous mix that has ended up stopping or slowing down the development of ...the agricultural sector. It is now necessary to design and carry out initiatives that counteract this trend, especially initiatives based on innovation and the use of technology. This article aims to analyse the implications of the new ways of working to be used in spaces created under the umbrella of a new technological order known as metaverse. Through the creation of a community of metaverses, capable of promoting interaction, collaboration and communication between the different agents involved in the value chain of the agricultural sector, the aim of this research is to create an integrated and collaborative trusting environment that allows consensual, well-founded and robust business decisions focused on cost savings and the optimisation of quality and productivity. This research seeks to benefit all agents involved in the agricultural sector value chain. By placing producers at the centre of the system, the approach described in this study aims to avoid the current imbalances between the interests of different agents, while promoting an innovative and sustainable agricultural sector committed to meeting the challenges of today’s society.
•The MV economy emerges from Industry 5.0 and Society 5.0.•Issues related to the human side of the MV are likely to have complex solutions.•The MV can only succeed if implemented as a tool for participation, not control.•Building a community of interconnected MVs related to the agricultural sector is vital.•A MV community can help resolve misalignments arising in the agricultural value chain.
The metaverse has the potential to extend the physical world using augmented and virtual reality technologies allowing users to seamlessly interact within real and simulated environments using ...avatars and holograms. Virtual environments and immersive games (such as, Second Life, Fortnite, Roblox and VRChat) have been described as antecedents of the metaverse and offer some insight to the potential socio-economic impact of a fully functional persistent cross platform metaverse. Separating the hype and “meta…” rebranding from current reality is difficult, as “big tech” paints a picture of the transformative nature of the metaverse and how it will positively impact people in their work, leisure, and social interaction. The potential impact on the way we conduct business, interact with brands and others, and develop shared experiences is likely to be transformational as the distinct lines between physical and digital are likely to be somewhat blurred from current perceptions. However, although the technology and infrastructure does not yet exist to allow the development of new immersive virtual worlds at scale - one that our avatars could transcend across platforms, researchers are increasingly examining the transformative impact of the metaverse. Impacted sectors include marketing, education, healthcare as well as societal effects relating to social interaction factors from widespread adoption, and issues relating to trust, privacy, bias, disinformation, application of law as well as psychological aspects linked to addiction and impact on vulnerable people. This study examines these topics in detail by combining the informed narrative and multi-perspective approach from experts with varied disciplinary backgrounds on many aspects of the metaverse and its transformational impact. The paper concludes by proposing a future research agenda that is valuable for researchers, professionals and policy makers alike.
•The metaverse has the potential to extend the physical world using extended, augmented, and virtual reality technologies.•Interactive virtual environments and immersive games are considered as antecedents of the metaverse.•The transformative impact of the metaverse as well as societal effects relating to social interaction factors from widespread adoption.•Sectors potentially impacted by the metaverse include marketing, education, tourism, and healthcare.
Virtual education has started to grab interest since technology emerges in everything in our life. Metaverse is one of the technologies that has been conceived since the late 90s and is currently ...being renewed and renovated to suit current changes. Yet, many teachers and students still do not know how to utilize Metaverse to create a new atmosphere in the learning process. Therefore, this study aims to show the results of using Metaverse in the form of virtual space in the educational field and how teachers and students respond to the process. In this study, the authors would like to conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on the advantages and disadvantages of virtual educational spaces in Metaverse based on many previous studies related to this topic. Survey results conducted by previous studies show that students mostly enjoy using Metaverse as their learning method and can comprehend several lessons better when using Metaverse than traditional learning— textbook-based and face-to-face learning. Unfortunately, only several studies focus on finding preferred subjects to teach using the Metaverse and for which educational level this method suits best. In general, the authors conclude that Metaverse has excellent potential in the future to be explored profoundly in the education field due to the development of skills in the use of technology and a significant increase in student practice scores. However, the guidance of teachers and parents is still needed so that students can avoid the disadvantages.

The ever-increasing use of information and communication technologies and virtual networks has created a possibility for educational development and transformation in the metaverse context. This ...possibility is related to the infrastructural development capabilities on the one hand and the content and structural aspects of education in society on the other hand. Despite its positive and negative aspects, this subject requires serious attention to achieve meta-education. This study, by taking into account the perspectives of experts, intends to analyze the challenges of education in the metaverse. Here, a qualitative content analysis method was adopted, with the data collection tool being semi-structured interviews with 12 people until reaching the saturation level. The data was analyzed through an inductive approach and the reliability of contents was checked by "independent coders and expert group" method. The findings showed that the educational challenges in the metaverse include themes such as deconstruction of education, gamification, the conflict of diversity and singularity, the challenge of unknownness, the intellectual property interest, educational justice, perceived compatibility, the challenge of conflict, dependence and post-realism learning. It seems that the capabilities of using the educational metaverse in Iran are still not available due to the aforementioned challenges. Since capacities and capabilities are necessary for educational development, preparing grounds for its use by the next generation through a planning based on the findings of this paper can greatly increase the utilization rate of its positive aspects.
The metaverse, defined as an interoperated persistent network of shared virtual environments, engenders perception of holistic presence for audiences through avatar embodiment as well as ...psychological and physiological immersion in synchronous interaction with other agents and objects. Metaverse tours is a newly emerged phenomenon requiring deepened understanding in the travel and tourism industry. The current study, applying pertinent concepts of enactive cognition and positive psychology, proposes and verifies a theoretical framework. As the research result suggests, concomitant effect exercised by perception of holistic presence containing subdimensions of spatial-presence, social-presence, and self-presence alongside holistic happiness comprising hedonia and eudaimonia serves to reinforce actual visit intention towards a tourism destination in the metaverse context. The current study contributes to explicating an effective avenue conducive to bringing out optimal impact of metaverse tours for travel and tourism marketing.
•The metaverse fundamentally changes the way consumers and firms interact.•A trace of the evolution of the metaverse concept suggests a shift from a narrow perspective (single virtual worlds) to a ...broad perspective (multiple hyperconnected virtual experiences).•A systematic review of 164 articles and a content analysis of metaverse viewpoints of 78 business professionals helps to identify emerging themes, propose an organizing framework and assess implications for marketing practice.•Firms can utilize immersiveness, sociability, and environmental fidelity to design and characterize consumer experiences in the metaverse.•The metaverse-induced changes have relevant implication for future marketing academic research in areas such as Intelligence, Innovation, Communication, Experience, Consumer Behavior, and Policy Formulation.
A hyper-connected digital universe referred to as the ‘metaverse’ bears the promise of fundamentally changing how consumers, brands, and firms will transact and interact in a seamlessly interconnected space of virtual realities. The potential of the metaverse is being accelerated by the increasing tendency of (i) consumers engaging and transacting in virtual spaces and (ii) firms investing millions of dollars in developing metaverse-related technologies. However, given the rapid evolution, there is a lack of clear understanding of the current scope of the metaverse and the consequent implications for marketing practice and research. This study integrates the findings from an extensive literature review of multiple disciplines and expert viewpoints of industry leaders to propose a definition and an organizing framework for the emergent metaverse. Subsequently, the authors discuss how metaverse-induced changes contribute to novel implications for marketing practice and propose a research agenda to guide future academic studies and marketing initiatives.
