In der musikalischen Aufführungspraxis ist es normalerweise der Mensch, der das Tempo erzeugt. Innerlich ein Tempo zu etablieren und es an das der mitmusizierenden Personen anzugleichen, ist eine ...grundlegende musikalische Fähigkeit. Was bedeutet es also, wenn das Tempo von einem technischen System vorgegeben wird? Philippe Kocher unterzieht diese besondere Art der Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion einer musikgeschichtlichen, technikgeschichtlichen und medienarchäologischen Betrachtung. Darüber hinaus entwickelt er innerhalb seiner wissenschaftlich-künstlerischen Studie ein eigenes System zur technikgestützten Tempovermittlung und beschreibt dessen Einsatz in der Praxis.
El triple picado se considera demasiado complejo para desempeñarlo con el clarinete. Por ello, el objetivo es utilizar las TIC para mejorar la calidad del triple picado realizando una prueba piloto ...con 13 participantes con al menos el Título de Enseñanzas Profesionales de clarinete. Se grabaron 2 ejercicios técnicos en tres ocasiones. La primera grabación fue una prueba inicial para saber el conocimiento del triple picado en cada participante y la última analizaba la mejoría experimentada tras utilizar las TIC. Entre cada grabación se proporcionaron a los participantes 11 ejercicios para trabajar la técnica durante 6 semanas. Las herramientas tecnológicas utilizadas fueron: Audacity (para realizar las grabaciones), ZyMi (metrónomo gratuito para el estudio de los 11 ejercicios y para los 2 ejercicios de las grabaciones), Sibelius7 (para escribir los ejercicios) y Sonic Visualiser (para observar la evolución objetiva de la técnica mediante los espectrogramas que mostraban los defectos al realizar los ejercicios). Tras escuchar las grabaciones y analizar colores y formas resultantes de los espectrogramas en Sonic Visualiser, se observó que en la primera grabación la calidad del triple picado fue deficiente en 9 de los participantes. En la última grabación todos lograron hacer los dos ejercicios con gran calidad en sonoridad, articulación y ritmo en todos los registros. Se puede concluir que el uso de las TIC fue fundamental para que los participantes mejorasen la estabilidad del tempo con ZyMi, la sonoridad y la articulación al utilizar el sentido auditivo y visual conjuntamente en los espectrogramas de Sonic Visualiser.
Perception-action coordination (also known as sensorimotor synchronization, SMS) is often studied by analyzing motor coordination with auditory rhythms. The current study assesses phasing-a ...compositional technique in which two people tap the same rhythm at varying phases by adjusting tempi-to explore how SMS is impacted by individual and situational factors. After practice trials, participants engaged in the experimental phasing task with a metronome at tempi ranging from 80-140 beats per minute (bpm). Multidimensional recurrence quantification analysis (MdRQA) was used to compare nonlinear dynamics of phasing performance. Varying coupling patterns emerged and were significantly predicted by tempo and linguistic experience. Participants who successfully phased replicated findings from an original case study, demonstrating stable tapping patterns near in-phase and antiphase, while those unsuccessful at phasing showed weaker attraction to in-phase and antiphase.
During most part of Western classical music history, tempo, the speed of music, was not specified, for it was considered obvious from musical context. Only in 1815, Maelzel patented the metronome. ...Beethoven immediately embraced it, so much as to add tempo marks to his already published eight symphonies. However, these marks are still under dispute, as many musicians consider them too quick to be played and even unmusical, whereas others claim them as Bethoven's supposedly written will. In this work, we develop a methodology to extract and analyze the performed tempi from 36 complete symphonic recordings by different conductors. Our results show that conductor tempo choices reveal a systematic deviation from Beethoven's marks, which highlights the salience of "correct tempo" as a perceptive phenomenon shaped by cultural context. The hasty nature of these marks could be explained by the metronome's ambiguous scale reading point, which Beethoven probably misinterpreted.
A metronomic mechanism for the duration control of ontogenetic cycle periods of an animal is proposed. The components of the proposed metronomic system include the ventricular system of the brain, ...planet Earth as a generator of metronomic signals, and temporal DNA (tDNA) as a substrate that is epigenetically marked to measure elapsed time of ontogenesis. The metronomic system generates repetitive signals in the form of hydrodynamic disturbances in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The metronomic effect arises due to the superposition of two processes – the near-wall unidirectional flow of CSF and oscillations in the movement of the planet. Hydrodynamic impacts of the metronome are transformed into nerve impulses that initiate epigenetic modification of tDNA in neurons, changing the content of factors expressed by this DNA for innervated targets of the body. The duration of ontogenetic cycle periods, including duration of the adult life, depends on the rate of addition of epigenetic marks to tDNA. This rate depends mainly on the frequency of the metronomic signals used by each particular species. But epigenetic modifications can also be influenced by factors that modulate metabolism and the rate of chromatin modifications, such as a calorie-restricted diet.
Micrographia, or small handwriting, is a common symptom of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Weighted pens have previously been recommended to improve handwriting, but there is limited research supporting ...their effectiveness. Additionally, previous research has demonstrated that music as an auditory cue can reduce variability in fine motor movements, but its effect on handwriting in people with PD remains unknown.
This study explored potential handwriting interventions for people with PD by evaluating the effectiveness of weighted pens and auditory cues on handwriting.
This was a pilot cohort study.
Eight older adults with PD used a standard pen and a weighted pen to write continuous cursive “l”s on 1.5-cm-lined paper for a total of 10 seconds while listening to auditory cues in 4 conditions: control (silence), metronome, activating music, and relaxing music. Kinematic data were measured with sensors attached to the tip of each pen, and muscle activity was measured with electromyography sensors adhered to the extensor digitorum communis and first dorsal interosseous.
When writing with the standard pen, peak-to-peak time was reduced in the metronome (control = 0.807 ± 0.121 seconds, metronome = 0.701 ± 0.100 seconds, p = 0.024) and activating (control = 0.807 ± 0.121 seconds, activating = 0.691 ± 0.113 seconds, p = 0.009) conditions compared to the control condition. Furthermore, the weighted pen increased the variability of distance between letter peaks (standard = 0.187 ± 0.010, weighted = 0.482 ± 0.065, p = 0.033) and the variability of time needed to complete each letter (standard = 0.176 ± 0.010, weighted = 0.187 ± 0.016, p = 0.042) compared to the standard pen. Finally, area under the curve of the extensor digitorum communis was reduced in the metronome (metronome = 66.03 ± 25.74 mV, control = 88.98 ± 30.40 mV, p = 0.034) and activating music (activating = 66.49 ± 26.02 mV, control = 88.98 ± 30.40 mV, p = 0.012) conditions compared to control when writing with the standard pen.
These results suggest that weighted pens may not improve handwriting in novice users, but auditory cues appear beneficial. This can inform future directions in the research and clinical application of handwriting interventions for persons with PD.

The double tonguing technique is not usually used on the clarinet due to its difficulty. The objective is to demonstrate that
the technique can be performed with the clarinet using ICT. The technique ...was put into practice in 13 clarinetists with the
Title of Professional Degree or attending higher studies. They studied it through 29 exercises after making a first recording
of 2 exercises. After 8 weeks of study, the last recording was made to see if the quality of the technique was higher. The
implementation of ICT consisted of the use of Audacity (to record), Sibelius7 (to write the exercises), ZyMi (for recordings
and study) and the spectrograms in Sonic Visualiser of the pre-recorded audios (to assess whether there is evolution of the
quality double tonguing). Once the spectrograms were analyzed and the recordings were listened to in Sonic Visualiser, it was
observed that in the first recording the quality of the double tonguing was quite poor in the high and high register of many
of the participants. However, in the last recording all of them managed to perform both exercises with great quality in all
registers. In conclusion, it can be said that the double tonguing can be performed by any clarinet player and that the use of
ICT is highly recommended. The use of ZyMi and Sonic Visualiser allowed to see in the spectrograms if the execution was
precise in terms of tempo, sound quality, articulation, duration and equality of the notes.
La técnica del doble picado no suele utilizarse en el clarinete por la dificultad que entraña. El objetivo es
demostrar que la técnica puede ser desempeñada con el clarinete utilizando las TIC. Se puso en práctica
la técnica en 13 clarinetistas con el Título de Grado Profesional o cursando estudios superiores. Estos la
estudiaron mediante 29 ejercicios tras realizar una primera grabación de 2 ejercicios. Tras 8 semanas de
estudio se realizó la última grabación para ver si la calidad de la técnica era mayor. La implementación
de las TIC consistió en el uso de Audacity (para grabar), Sibelius7 (para escribir los ejercicios), ZyMi (para
grabaciones y estudio) y los espectrogramas en Sonic Visualiser de los audios pregrabados (para valorar
si existe evolución de la calidad del doble picado). Una vez que fueron analizados los espectrogramas y
se escucharon las grabaciones en Sonic Visualiser, se observó que en la primera grabación la calidad del
doble picado fue bastante deficiente en los registros agudo y sobreagudo de muchos de los participantes.
Sin embargo, en la última grabación todos ellos consiguieron realizar los dos ejercicios con gran calidad
en todos los registros. Como conclusión, puede decirse que el doble picado puede ser ejecutado por
cualquier clarinetista y que, para ello, es muy recomendable la utilización de las TIC. La utilización de
ZyMi y Sonic Visualiser permitió ver en los espectrogramas si la ejecución era precisa en cuanto a tempo,
calidad del sonido, articulación, duración e igualdad de las notas.
En el clarinete, la interpretación del doble picado resulta compleja especialmente a altas velocidades. El objetivo es utilizar las TIC para medir la mejora de la velocidad del doble picado en este ...instrumento. Se realiza una prueba piloto con 13 participantes con el Título de Enseñanzas Profesionales de Clarinete. Se grabaron 2 ejercicios en dos ocasiones. La primera grabación pretendía medir la velocidad máxima a la que los participantes interpretaban los ejercicios con doble picado. Posteriormente, se facilitaron 29 piezas durante 8 semanas. Finalmente, se realizó una última grabación para observar si existía mejoría. Las herramientas tecnológicas utilizadas fueron ZyMi (para las grabaciones y el estudio), Audacity (para realizar las grabaciones), Sibelius7 (para escribir ejercicios) y Sonic Visualiser (para asegurar la calidad de la técnica). Las velocidades iniciales fueron bastante bajas puesto que a un tempo mayor se perdía calidad en la técnica. En cambio, en la última grabación, 5 de los participantes habían doblado las velocidades y 4 las triplicaron. Además, los Participantes 3 y 5 aumentaron tres veces la velocidad en el primero de los ejercicios y la doblaron en el segundo. Por su parte, el Participante 13 aumentó desde negra igual a 13 hasta negra igual a 105 en el primer ejercicio y hasta 85 en el segundo con apenas unas semanas de estudio. Se puede concluir que el uso de las TIC ayudó a los participantes a aumentar la velocidad sin errores de ejecución. Además, mejoraron en estabilidad el tempo al utilizar ZyMi desde velocidades bajas.
El triple picado es una técnica que instrumentos como el clarinete no suelen utilizar, pero que consiste en tocar notas picadas a mucha velocidad. El instrumento parece ofrecer resistencia ante la ...necesidad de la vibración de la caña para producir sonido. El objetivo es demostrar que la técnica puede interpretarse a altas velocidades en este instrumento gracias a las TIC. Se recogió una muestra de 13 clarinetistas con nivel mínimo de Grado Profesional. La prueba inicial consistió en grabar 2 ejercicios (con Audacity). Esta se repitió tras 6 semanas de estudio para comprobar si existía evolución. En este periodo, los participantes estudiaron 11 ejercicios (escritos con Sibelius7) utilizando el software ZyMi. Se mantuvo la calidad examinando los espectrogramas con Sonic Visualiser. El resultado obtenido en la primera grabación fueron velocidades muy bajas (entre 32 y 75). Los participantes encontraron dificultades principalmente en los dos registros superiores. En cambio, en la última grabación, 7 clarinetistas lograron duplicar los tempi, 5 la quintuplicaron y sólo 1 la disminuyó en el segundo ejercicio porque no pudo dedicar tiempo en la última fase de estudio a practicar la técnica. Además, mejoraron colateralmente otros aspectos como la estabilidad de la pulsación al utilizar el software ZyMi y mejoraron la emisión de aire y la sonoridad al trabajar con Sonic Visualiser. Finalmente, del estudio se concluye que el aumento de tempo de la técnica sí es posible al utilizar las TIC pues permite medir exactamente cuánto asciende la velocidad y la calidad de los ejercicios.
Purpose We focused on the relationship between body sway patterns and motor and attentional functions in early childhood, and classified diagrams of body sway into four patterns. Furthermore, the ...relationship between physical fitness tests and Interactive Metronome (IM) tasks was used to determine whether the body sway patterns are indicators of motor and attentional functions in early childhood. Participants and Methods Participants were 24 male and 26 female children with a mean age of 2,148.1 ± 103.7 days. Participants were evaluated using physical fitness tests, body sway measures, baseline scores on the IM task (the “task average”), and the percentage of perfect hits (“Super Right On”) on the IM task (the “Super Right On” score, or SRO%). Results The association between the body sway pattern and motor and attentional functions was examined, and results revealed that the body sway pattern was only slightly associated with motor functions. However, participants with an anterior-posterior pattern of body sway had worse timing and attentional functions than participants with other patterns, as indicated by a lower task average and SRO% on the IM task. Conclusion These results suggested that anterior-posterior sway may reflect attentional functions when body sway is measured in children such as 6 year-olds.
