The aim of this study was to compare the biological activities of ethanolic propolis extracts of
obtained from Ardahan and Erzurum provinces of Turkey. Samples were tested for antioxidant, ...anticytotoxic, anticarcinogenic, antibacterial, and antifungal potentials using different techniques. Propolis samples from the two provinces had different mineral and organic compositions related to their geographical origin. The ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) test showed superiority of Ardahan propolis over the Erzurum. Regardless of origin and the presence of mitomycin C in the culture medium, propolis enhanced human peripheral lymphocyte viability, which depended on the duration and propolis concentration. Antiperoxidative activity on MCF-7 breast cancer cells was concentration-dependent. Erzurum propolis showed the highest anticarcinogenic activity at the concentrations of 62.5 μg/mL and 125 μg/ mL, which dropped at higher concentrations. All propolis samples also showed antibacterial activity against the tested human pathogens similar to ampicillin and penicillin controls, except for

. In conclusion, propolis samples from both provinces showed promising biological activities, but further research should focus on finding the right concentrations for optimal effect and include the cell necrosis pathway to get a better idea of the anticarcinogenic effects.
Introduction: Oxidative stress is involved in the pathophysiology of systemic arterial hypertension (HAS) and the role of antioxidants in this context still needs to be better understood. Objective: ...To evaluate the prevalence of hypertension and the relationship with polyphenol intake and total dietary antioxidant capacity (DTAC) in climacteric women from Serra Gaúcha-RS, Brazil. Materials and methods: 41 women participated in the study (CEP 2,420,632; 12/07/2017) and they were subjected to measurements of weight, height, waist circumference, and blood pressure. Different questionnaires were applied to obtain sociodemographic and health information, in addition to the 24-hour Food Recall. Comparisons between the hypertensive and non-hypertensive groups were made using Student's t-test or chi-square. Results: The prevalence of HAS in the population was 29,27 % (IC95% 14,73; 43,81) and hypertensive women had a BMI statistically higher than non-hypertensive women (p=0.047). Although without a statistical difference, it was observed that the hypertensive group had decreased DTAC and total polyphenol intake (9 and 11% reduction, respectively). The mineral magnesium had its intake significantly reduced (30%; p=0.006) by hypertensive women. This group also had an intake below the recommended for vitamins A and E. Among the foods and beverages that contributed to increasing the participants' DTAC, coffee ranked first in both groups. Conclusion: These data demonstrate the importance of monitoring the consumption of antioxidants to prevent and/or control hypertension and diseases related to heart health in climacteric women.
Introduzione: lo stress ossidativo è coinvolto nella patofisiologia dell'ipertensione arteriosa sistemica (ha) e il ruolo degli antiossidanti in questo contesto deve ancora essere compreso. Obiettivo: valutare la prevalenza dell'ipertensione e del rapporto con l'assunzione di polifenolo e la capacità antiossidante dietetica totale (DTAC) nelle donne climatiche del Gaucho-RS di Serra, Brasile. Materiali e metodi: 41 donne hanno partecipato allo studio (2,420.632 del DEI 2,420.632; 07/12/2017) e sono stati sottoposti a spazi vuoti, altezza, circonferenza della vita e pressione sanguigna. Sono stati applicati diversi questionari per l'ottenimento di informazioni sociodemografiche e sanitarie, oltre al richiamo del cibo 24 ore su 24. I confronti tra gruppi ipertensivi e non ipertensivi sono stati effettuati da studente o T-test a T-square. Risultati: la prevalenza di ha nella popolazione è stata del 29,27% (IC95% 14.73; 43.81) e le donne ipertesi hanno presentato BMI statisticamente superiore a quelle non ipertesi (P = 0,047). Sebbene senza differenza statistica, è stato osservato che il gruppo ipertensivo ha presentato DTAC e ingestione di polifenoli totali diminuiti (rispettivamente 9 e 11% di riduzione). Il minerale di magnesio aveva la sua ingestione significativamente ridotta (30%; p = 0,006) da parte delle donne ipertesi. È stato osservato che esibivano un'ingestione al di sotto del raccomandato per le vitamine A ed E. Tra i prodotti alimentari e le bevande che hanno contribuito ad aumentare il DTAC dei partecipanti, il caffè era il primo in entrambi i gruppi. Conclusione: questi dati dimostrano l'importanza di monitorare il consumo di antiossidanti volti a prevenire e / o il controllo delle malattie dell'ipertensione e della salute del cuore, nelle donne climateriche.
Introdução: O estresse oxidativo está envolvido na fisiopatologia da hipertensão arterial sistêmica (HAS) e o papel dos antioxidantes nesse contexto ainda precisa ser melhor compreendido. Objetivo: avaliar a prevalência de hipertensão e a relação com ingestão de polifenóis e capacidade antioxidante total dietética (DTAC) em mulheres climatéricas da Serra Gaúcha-RS, Brasil. Materiais e métodos: 41 mulheres participaram do estudo (CEP 2.420.632; 07/12/2017) e foram submetidas a aferições de peso, altura, circunferência da cintura e pressão arterial. Aplicaram-se diferentes questionários visando a obtenção de informações sociodemográficas e de saúde, além do Recordatório Alimentar de 24 horas. Comparações entre os grupos hipertenso e não hipertenso foram feitas através de teste t de Student ou qui-quadrado. Resultados: A prevalência de HAS na população foi de 29,27 % (IC95% 14,73; 43,81) e as mulheres hipertensas apresentaram IMC estatisticamente superior ao das não hipertensas (p=0,047). Embora sem diferença estatística, observou-se que o grupo hipertenso apresentou DTAC e ingestão de polifenóis totais diminuídos (9 e 11 % de redução, respectivamente). O mineral magnésio teve sua ingestão significativamente reduzida (30 %; p=0,006) pelas mulheres hipertensas. Observou-se que elas exibiram uma ingestão abaixo do recomendado para as vitaminas A e E. Dentre os alimentos e bebidas que contribuíram para aumentar a DTAC das participantes, o café ficou em primeiro lugar em ambos os grupos. Conclusão: Esses dados demonstram a importância do monitoramento do consumo de antioxidantes visando a prevenção e/ou controle da hipertensão e de doenças relacionadas à saúde do coração, em mulheres climatéricas.

Objetivo: Evaluar la prevalencia de la hipertensión y la relación con la ingesta de polifenol y la capacidad antioxidante dietética total (DTAC) en las mujeres climáticas de la Serra Gaucho-RS, Brasil. Materiales y métodos: 41 mujeres participaron en el estudio (CEP 2,420,632; 07/12/2017) y se presentaron a las brechas de peso, la altura, la circunferencia de la cintura y la presión arterial. Se aplicaron diferentes cuestionarios para la obtención de información sociodemográfica y de salud, además del retiro de alimentos las 24 horas. Las comparaciones entre los grupos hipertensos y no hipertensos fueron hechos por el estudiante o la prueba T CHi-Square. RESULTADOS: La prevalencia de la prevalencia en la población fue del 29.27% (IC95% 14.73; 43.81) y las mujeres hipertensas presentaron a la BMI estadísticamente más altas que las no hipertensas (P = 0.047). Aunque sin diferencia estadística, se observó que el grupo hipertensivo presentaba DTAC e ingestión de polifenoles totales disminuidos (reducción del 9 y 11%, respectivamente). Mineral de magnesio tuvo su ingestión significativamente reducida (30%; p = 0.006) por mujeres hipertensas. Se observó que exhibían una ingestión por debajo del recomendado para las vitaminas A y E. Entre los alimentos y bebidas que contribuyeron a aumentar el DTAC de los participantes, el café fue primero en ambos grupos. U ovome je istraživanju korištena spektroskopija u bliskome infracrvenom području (NIRS) za procjenu količine esencijalnih makro- i mikroelemenata u uzorcima najčešće uzgajanih kultivara graha ...(Phaseolus vulgaris L.) u Republici Hrvatskoj. Ukupno 175 uzoraka graha korišteno je za razvoj kalibracije uporabom modificirane metode najmanjih kvadrata (MPLS), metode regresije osnovne komponente (PCR) i metode najmanjih kvadrata (PLS). S obzirom na koeficijent korelacije (R2), standardnu grešku kalibracije (SEC) i standardnu grešku procjene (SEP), razvijeni kalibracijski modeli su (i) gotovo primjenjivi za procjenu dušika (N) (0,89; 0,12 i 0,45), (ii) slabo primjenjivi za procjenu željeza (Fe), cinka (Zn), kalijevog oksida (K2O) i kalija (K) te (iii) upotrebljivi za fosfor pentoksid (P2O5), fosfor (P), fitinsku kiselinu (PA) i mangan (Mn). Najpouzdaniji kalibracijski modeli razvijeni su korištenjem regresijskoga modela MPLS u usporedbi s kalibracijskim modelima dobivenim korištenjem PLS-a i modelima PCR-a. Zaključeno je da je za procjenu makro- i mikroelemenata spektroskopijom u bliskome infracrvenom području (NIRS) potrebno prikupiti veći broj uzoraka graha širih varijacija istraživanih makro- i mikroelemenata.
Batı Anadolu Geç Oligosen'den itibaren, Menderes Masifi, Sakarya Zonu, Likya napları ve Bornova Fliş Oligosen'den Zonu'ndan oluşan temel üzerinde KD ve B-D doğrultulu havzaların oluşumunu sonuçlayan ...deformasyona uğramıştır. KD-doğrultulu havzalardan olan Bigadiç bor havzası, Sakarya Zonu ve Menderes Masifi arasında kalan 50-90 km genişliğinde bir kuşak boyunca yüzlek veren Bornova Filiş Zonu üzerinde yer alır. Bigadiç çevresinde temel kayaçları üzerindeki Erken Miyosen istifleri gölsel, flüvyal ve evaporitik tortul kayaçlar ile bunları kesen KD-doğrultulu volkanik çıkış merkezlerinden üretilen lav ve volkaniklastik kayaçlar ile simgelenir. Bölgedeki Erken Miyosen volkanizması, 23.0 Milyon yıl önce başlamış ve 17.8 Milyon yıla kadar devam etmiştir. Stratigrafik ve jeokronolojik veriler, gölsel çökelim öncesinde ve sırasında gelişen iki volkanik evrenin olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Bu evrelerle ilgili ürünler, birbirleri ile açısal uyumsuzlukla ayrılan Kocaiskan volkanitleri ve Bigadiç volkano-sedimenter serisidir. Kocaiskan volkanitleri, andezitik sokulumlar, lavlar, piroklastik ve volkanojenik tortul kayaçlardan oluşmaktadır. Bu volkanitler, karasal koşullarda yerleşmiş ve bölgedeki en yüksek topografyaya sahip stratovolkanları oluşturmuştur. Bigadiç volkano-sedimenter serisi ise volkanik ve gölsel birimlerden oluşmaktadır. Bazalttan riyolite kadar değişen bileşimlerdeki lav ve volkaniklastik kayaçlardan oluşan volkanik birimler, gölsel birimlere ait bor içeren karbonatlı, silisli ve killi tortullar ile ardalanmalıdır.
Bigadiç bölgesindeki volkanik birimler, 'İzmir-Balıkesir transfer kuşağı' olarak adlandırılan ve bölgesel ölçekli bir fay kuşağının bir parçası olan KD doğrultulu kırıklar boyunca oluşmuştur. Bu transfer kuşağının Geç Kretase'den
günümüze kadar aktif olduğu ve Kikladlar ile batı Türkiye arasında farklı düzeydeki açılmayı kontrol ettiği düşünülmektedir. Bu kuşak, Erken Miyosen ve sonrasında aktif olmuştur. Bigadiç bor havzası, çevre bölgelerde eş
yaşlı sıyrılma fayları ve sin-kinematik granitlerin yerleşimine neden olan açılma rejimindeki KD doğrultulu zayıflık zonunda yer almaktadır.
Western Turkey has undergone an intense deformation which has given rise to two types of basins since the Late Oligocene: NE-trending and E-W-trending basins situated on the basement rocks of the Menderes Massif, the Sakarya Zone, the Lycian nappes and the Bornova Flysch Zone. One of the NE-trending basins, the Bigadiç borate basin, is located in the Bornova Flysch Zone - a 50-90-km-wide zone between the Sakarya Zone and the Menderes Massif. Lower Miocene successions are dominated by lacustrine, fluvial, evaporitic sedimentary rocks and numerous NE-trending volcanic centres which produced considerable amounts of lava and volcaniclastic detritus in the Bigadiç area. The Early Miocene basaltic to rhyolitic volcanism began 23.0 Ma and continued until 17.8 Ma in the area. The stratigraphic and geochronological data reveal that two volcanic episodes occurred, one before and one during lacustrine sedimentation. The products of these episodes are grouped into the Kocaiskan volcanites and the Bigadiç volcano-sedimentary succession, the two separated by an angular unconformity. The Kocaiskan volcanites comprise andesitic intrusions, lavas, pyroclastic deposits and extensive volcanogenic sedimentary rocks, and were mainly deposited under subaerial conditions, and underlie stratovolcanoes, the most prominent topographic highs. The Bigadiç volcano-sedimentary succession consists of volcanic and lacustrine units that were deposited in an ephemeral-lake environment. The volcanic units, comprising basaltic to rhyolitic lavas and volcaniclastic rocks, are intercalated with borate-bearing calcareous, siliceous and clayey sediments of the lacustrine units.
Volcanic units in the Bigadiç area formed along NE-trending fractures that are part of a regional-scale fault zone, termed the 'Izmir-Balikesir transfer zone'. This transfer zone, thought to have been active since the Late Cretaceous, has accommodated differential extension between the Cyclades and western Turkey. The zone was active in the Bigadiç borate basin during and after the Early Miocene, and the basin formed in a NE-trending zone of weakness under an extensional tectonic regime which caused the formation of coeval extensional detachment faults and the emplacement of syn-kinematic granites in surrounding areas.
This paper reports the results of the evaluation of some physical-chemical parameters (pH, humidity and sugar content) and of mineral content (Na, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn, Cd, Cr, Pb and Zn) of 69 ...samples of honey produced in Marches (Italy) region (Montefeltro area), in order to assess their quality. Furthermore, a statistical method aimed at confirming the geographic provenance of honey of this region was developed. The collected samples, typical of this production area (23 black locust, 44 millefiori and 2 honeydew), showed, mostly (98), humidity values lower than the maximum value set in Directive 2001/110/EC (2002); the average values of pH (3.70) and sugar (81.16 deg Brix) were in agreement with literature data. The average values of Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Mn and Zn were 24.5, 643, 116.06, 21.24, 6.34, 0.81, 0.45, 0.50 microng gE-1 dry weight (dw), respectively. As to toxic metals (cadmium, chromium and lead), only Pb showed samples (50) with a content higher than the revealability limit (0.07 microng gE-1 dw). Group analysis and stepwise discriminant analysis were applied in order to verify which variables, among the utilized ones, are more important to discriminate honey samples on the basis of their geographic origin, in order to establish a rule useful to ascertain if a sample comes effectively from the geographic area of origin. Ca, Na, Mg and Zn resulted the most important parameters for the exact classification of their geographic origin.
II presente studio riporta la valutazione di alcuni parametri chimico-fisici (pH, umidità e grado zuccherino) e della componente minerale (Na, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn, Cd, Cr, Pb e Zn) di 69 campioni di miele prodotti nella regione Marche (zona di Montefeltro), allo scopo di valutarne la qualità. Si è inoltre sviluppato un metodo statistico per confermare l'autenticità geografica del miele di questa particolare area di produzione. I campioni raccolti, tipici della zona di produzione (23 di acacia, 44 di millefiori e 2 di miele di melata), hanno mostrato, in gran parte (98), valori di umidità inferiori al valore massimo indicato nella Direttiva 2001/110/CE (2002); il valore medio del pH (3,70) e dello zucchero (81,16 gradi Brix) sono risultati in accordo con la letteratura. I valori medi per Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Mn e Zn sono stati 24,5, 643, 116,06, 21,24, 6,34, 0,81, 0,45, 0.50 microng gE-1 peso secco (ps), rispettivamente. Per quanto riguarda i metalli tossici (cadmio, cromo e piombo), soltanto il Pb presenta dei campioni (50) con un contenuto maggiore del limite di rivelabilità (0,07 microng gE-1 ps). Sono state applicate l'analisi dei gruppi e l'analisi discriminante stepwise per verificare quali variabili, tra quelle utilizzate, sono maggiormente importanti per discriminare i campioni di mieli in base alla loro origine geografica, in modo di ottenere una regola per accertare se un determinato campione provenga effettivamente dalla zona geografica di origine. II Ca, Na, Mg e Zn sono risultati i parametri più importanti per la esatta classificazione della loro origine geografica
The effects of vitamin and trace element supplementation on milk yield and milk composition were evaluated on 50 grazing ewes. The experiment lasted for 16 weeks (March-June). The ewes, after ...lambing, were divided into two homogeneous groups of 25 animals each. The ewes at return to sheephouse had an addition of 300g/head/day of a pellet feed. The pellet feed for treated group was supplemented with vitamins and trace elements. The supplementation with vitamins and multi-trace elements significantly (P=0.05) increased average daily FCM (fat-corrected milk) yield and determined a tendential improvement of daily milk yield (1,310 vs 1,230 g) and fat content (7.5 vs 7.3%), while it did not affect the percentage of protein and lactose, somatic cell count and milk renneting properties of milk
In 50 pecore al pascolo sono stati valutati gli effetti dell'integrazione con vitamine e microelementi sulla resa produttiva e la composizione del latte. L'esperimento si è protratto per 16 settimane (marzo-giugno). Le pecore, dopo il parto, sono state divise in due gruppi omogenei di 25 animali ciascuno. Alle pecore al ritorno all'ovile è stata somministrata un'integrazione di 300 g/capo/giorno di mangime pellettato. Il mangime pellettato per il gruppo trattato era integrato con vitamine e microelementi minerali. L'integrazione vitaminico-minerale ha determinato un aumento significativo (P=0,05) della produzione di latte a pari contenuto di grasso (FCM) e un miglioramento tendenziale della resa giornaliera in latte (1.310 vs 1.230 g) e del tenore di grasso (7,5 vs 7,3%), mentre non ha influenzato la percentuale di proteine e di lattosio, la conta delle cellule somatiche e le proprietà lattodinamometriche del latte
