Tourism started slowly in Ilulissat (Greenland) in the 1980s‑1990s, before expanding further in the 21st century since the UNESCO classification of the Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier Fjord and the fact that ...the Arctic has become a symbol of climate change. These journeys are both imaginary, described as “cryotropism”, “borealism” or “nordicity”, and very real: the impact of tourism is visible in the environment. A new international airport is planned for 2023. What type of tourist and therefore travel will this attract? We asked ourselves to what extent the Ilulissat natural site could be managed in a sustainable way. In order to answer this question, we adopted the participant observation from an immersion in the Ilulissat Fjord Office and conducted about twenty semi structured interviews.
Emotions are critical antecedents to learning in the academic education context. However, how emotions flow, and how emotions affect learning in study tours remains unclear. This case study focused ...on a UNESCO study tour program, the Panda ambassador 2023, to address the gap. A mixed-method approach was applied, collecting data through daily questionnaires, written diaries, and interviews. A wide spectrum of emotions was identified throughout the study tour. Both emotional valence and intensity affect learning outcomes. Motivations, embodiment, peer interactions, tutorial instructions, itineraries, and contextual stimuli affect how emotions stimulate learning outcomes. Theoretically, our work presents a framework explicating how emotions affect tourist learning. Practically, implications are made for destination managers and study tour practitioners on experience and product design.
Recebendo visitantes de forma desregrada há mais de 150 anos, a Gruta da Lancinha vem sofrendo uma série de impactos ambientais que põe em risco esse sensível ecossistema. Este trabalho se propôs a ...conhecer os visitantes, suas origens, motivações, experiências anteriores e a forma como a visitação tem ocorrido na gruta, a partir da aplicação de questionário qualitativo online e físico, por meio da adaptação das “caixas-de-cume” utilizadas no montanhismo. Ainda, foram registrados e espacializados, em ambiente SIG, os principais impactos ambientais causados por essa visitação, e assim buscou-se apontar a relação entre um e outro, discutindo o descaso do Poder Público para com a gestão de uma das mais importantes cavidades naturais subterrâneas do estado do Paraná, além de apontamentos para a necessidade da elaboração do plano de manejo do Monumento Natural da Gruta da Lancinha.

World Natural Heritage sites are globally significant natural and cultural landscapes, serve as crucial benchmarks of human efforts in conservation and contribute to broader sustainable development ...agendas. This study aims to investigate the multifaceted relationship between World Natural Heritage conservation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) regarding public perception. We focus on the Guilin Karst region and explore the viewpoints of 520 local residents living around the Guilin World Natural Heritage site. The findings demonstrate that most residents deeply understand and care about preserving heritage, express their satisfaction with it, and are willing to increase taxes to support heritage conservation. Additionally, they perceive the multifaceted influence of natural heritage site conservation on the SDGs. Living closer to the Guilin Karst region has a stronger impact on long-term residents’ conservation and sustainability perception. Incorporating the viewpoints of the local community into World Natural Heritage conservation and sustainable development, the study fosters a more inclusive and participatory approach towards managing and safeguarding our shared natural heritage.
•Local residents support WHS conservation, recognizing its contribution to SDGs.•Public perceptions of relationships between karst conservation and SDGs were surveyed.•Multiple relationships exist between karst conservation and SDGs in Guilin.•Several key factors affect local residents' perspectives on conservation and SDGs.
This volume brings together multiple contributions on an important topic such as regeneration in the Campania region. The Proceedings of the Conference, held on March 21, 2023, and sponsored by ...Rotary District 2101, testify to the association's important role in the community. At the center of the discussion is our region's cultural and natural heritage, whose territory is rich in resources, cultural assets, and landscape values but also very fragile. In the approaches to the future of this heritage, the theses of experts, academics, and representatives of local authorities - many members of Rotary Clubs in the District - are compared with methodological contributions, exemplifications, good practices, and proposals. The volume debates the contemporary challenges with new urban planning approaches for self-regenerating territories, with a new paradigm that sees historical cities as the engine for the territory's growth, including cultural development. At the center of the reflections are the architectural project, mobility as an essential factor for livability and quality of life, the management plan for the historic center of Naples Unesco, energy efficiency and seismic protection of the historic building, as well as new forms of experimentation of shared administration of heritage. Campania presents a vulnerable Apennine territory with severe abandonment phenomena of inland historical centers. That's the reason why it's necessary to adopt urgent and innovative solutions are needed, inspired by concepts of rebalancing, with the creation of networks and supra-municipal circuits of fruition. The construction supply chain is addressed by highlighting, on the one hand, the negative repercussions of an inadequate national policy on Building Bonuses and, on the other, the potential of a sector that represents an important engine of socioeconomic development projected toward digitalization and innovation. Concerning the Unesco heritage, the prospects are outlined valorization regarding the archaeological site of Pompeii and the historic center of Naples. Particular attention is paid to environmental protection: we refer to the effects of climate change, the defense of the coastal landscape, the sea resource, the burning problems of the recovery of Bagnoli, as well as the agricultural landscape and urban greenery. Therefore, a volume is particularly significant and of considerable interest for its extraordinary wealth of multidisciplinary content, scientific and popular relevance.
This paper systematically reviews publications for the period 2002–2020 addressing the barriers to climate adaptation of cultural and natural heritage in the Northern and Southern poles. Climate ...change and its socio-economic implications deteriorate different forms of cultural and natural heritage, including archaeological sites, historic buildings, and indigenous heritage in the polar regions. Climate adaptation of cultural and natural heritage of polar regions is challenged due to the barriers, constraints, and limitations of various factors such as lack of awareness of polar heritage, remoteness of the sites, and lack of tools and facilities. This paper first presents the general characteristics of 76 documents out of 218. It then analyzes the barriers derived from the content analysis of the publications. Despite growing interest in polar studies, incomplete and inaccurate data and inventories and facilities and tools as technological constraints negatively affect building climate adaptation of polar heritage. Following that, existing regulations and organizations are found to be ineffective and slow to address the issues of communication and collaboration for building climate adaptation of polar heritage. The findings will discuss the policy implications of understanding barriers and tackling them to facilitate the climate adaptation of polar heritage.

The term "marshes" refers to the wetlands that are almost of shallow water with relatively dense plant cover, mainly of prominent plants (such as Phragmytes and Typha), or other submerged plants. The ...marshes of Southern Iraq (Ahwar) are of unique environmental and cultural features that rarely meet in similar habitats worldwide.. They are the most distinctive wetlands in Southwest Asia and worldwide as well. in some times in the past, these wetlands used to cover more than 15,000 km2, however, now it consists of less than this area. Functional diversity is fundamentally considered as a guide to comprehend the nature of ecosystem work. Despite the possession of the marshes of Southern Iraq for many major and minor functions, no study to determine the function diversity of this area was conducted. The present study aims to classify the major functions of the Iraqi marshlands, and then to develop a general framework to determine the extent of the decrease or increase in those functions as a result of the different influences. Also, the current study provides the criteria in preparing estimates for Iraqi marshes rehabilitation programs.
This study investigates the role of smart tourism technology (STT) attributes (accessibility, informativeness, interactivity, and personalisation) in creating a positive STT experience, influencing ...tourists' intentions to revisit, thus benefiting the image of a heritage site. A conceptual model was developed by formulating key reasoning from the elaboration likelihood model (ELM) and flow theory. Four hundred samples were collected from four national heritage sites in India to test the model. The results indicated that the STT role is critical in developing tourists' STT experience and revisit intention, with STT attributes representing the central route of elaboration tending to play a stronger role. This study discusses results across age (old/young) and gender (male/female) with theoretical implications that could also contribute meaningful insights to marketers, government bodies, and corporations involved in tourism development. Importantly, the emergence of STT and the dimensions of the heritage site image are discussed from a sustainability perspective.

A geodiversidade é uma área de estudo relativamente nova nas geociências. No Brasil a distribuição geográfica do conhecimento sobre o patrimônio natural é maior nas regiões nordeste, sudeste e sul. ...Esses locais possuem significativos avanços em termos de estudos, ações integradas com a comunidade e poder público e proposições de geoparques. A realidade desse background é diferente nos estados da Amazônia Legal. Esta é composta por nove estados localizados na região norte, em totalidade, um estado da região nordeste e um da região centro-oeste. Dada essa diferença de conhecimento gerado no país, o objetivo desse artigo foi fazer uma revisão dos trabalhos existentes na Amazônia Legal. Para realizar o estado da arte dos estudos sobre geodiversidade foi feito um levantamento sistemático digital em bases públicas de acesso. Posteriormente os estudos foram catalogados com base no tema central: geodiversidade, geoconservação, geoturismo, e geoparque. Os sub-temas também foram identificados e analisados por meio de gráficos. No total foram analisados 45 trabalhos publicados, sendo 13 no estado do Pará. A geodiversidade é o tema mais pesquisado com 21 trabalhos, seguido do geoturismo. Apesar do tema de geoconservação e geoparque não terem sido muito explorados na literatura existente, na região da Amazônia legal há a proposta de criação de três geoparques pelo Serviço Geológico do Brasil-CPRM, com inventário. A potencialidade da geodiversidade no território da Amazônia legal é ampla, porém ainda incipiente no contexto deste conceito para a valorização do desenvolvimento sustentável via instrumentos de geoconservação e uso para gestão territorial. Há também ausências de parceiras institucionais e práticas incipientes de geoeducação e geoturismo.
