Iako metafizika riječi ostaje relativno nedovoljno proučavano područje, jedna od tema o kojoj se više raspravlja uključuje pitanje kako objasniti prividnu istovjetnost riječi. Jednostavnije rečeno, ...pitanje se odnosi na to što dvije riječi-instance (ili primjerci) čini instancama iste riječi. U ovom radu tvrdim da sva postojeća rješenja problema nisu uspješna jer problem istovjetnosti riječi tretiraju kao problem odnosa jednog predmeta prema drugom. Umjesto toga, predlažem alternativno rješenje problema istovjetnosti riječi koje je usredotočeno na intrinzičnu prirodu svojstava koja imaju riječi. Rezultat je temeljitija verzija nominalizma nego što trenutno postoji u literaturi.
Hobbes' education in the literary culture of English Renaissance humanism has been overlooked as an important tradition in understanding his position in Early Modern Philosophy. Against the ...traditional readings of Hobbes' conception of language as a sequel to Medieval nominalism, I will argue that Hobbes' education in the literary culture of Renaissance humanism and his subsequent developments in this tradition would have allowed him to consider philosophical problems raised by new science in an original way and, thus, to introduce his innovative conception of language as the core of his solution to the problem of social and natural or ders. That the philosophical tenets of scholastic nominalism underwrite Chaucer's poetry has been firmly established in Chaucer studies, yet whether Chaucer's allegiance on the question of universals lies ...with realist or nominalist epistemology--or with neither--still remains a point of critical contention. This philosophical problem of universals structures the conflicts of Chaucer's eponymous heroes in Troilus and Criseyde, who oscillate between voluntarism and cosmic determinism. Chaucer's "much loved Criseyde" in particular, has been the notorious subject of critical praise and blame. Due to her "opacity" she has been read by critics from the 1970s to 90s as a helpless and tragic victim of patriarchal society who warrants empathy or, alternatively, as an independent-minded individual whose calculated self-equivocation, adaptability, and agency are worthy of admiration. Here, Marelj contends that Criseyde, preoccupied with the ephemeral particulars of present existence, is a nominalist whose misdirected agency bespeaks a self-directed and self-serving intentionality that is oblivious to the ethical correspondence between "words" and "things," or particulars and universals; and that by abstaining from lauding Criseyde's nominalist intentionality, Chaucer endorses a realist position that affirms not only an ontological but also an ethical connection between signs and what they signify.

Although Friesen’s recent article on “Clouser’s Aristotelian Interpretation of Dooyeweerd” (in this journal, volume 75(2010), 97-116) directs its criticisms mainly to me, I will not be at pains in ...what follows to reply to all of them. What I will concentrate upon instead is the correct understanding of Dooyeweerd. It is far more important that readers of this journal get Dooyeweerd straight than that they get me straight, and Friesen has proposed a number of misconstruals of fundamental concepts and ideas in Dooyeweerd’s philosophy. Therefore, in part one I will try to clear up only a few of the more glaring misrepresentations of my position in order to clear the way for considering the more serious mis-understandings of Dooyeweerd in part two. Part three will focus on Friesen’s panentheism.
