L’objectif de cet article est de proposer un état des lieux de la recherche sur les auteurs de violences conjugales en France en lien avec l’évolution des politiques publiques. La lutte contre les ...violences conjugales en France s’est particulièrement développée depuis une dizaine d’années, devenant Grande Cause du premier quinquennat (2017–2022) du Président de la République. Après le « Grenelle de lutte contre les violences conjugales » en 2019, une des mesures prises a concerné la création de Centres de prises en charge des auteurs de violences conjugales (CPCA). L’objectif premier des CPCA déployés en 2020 et 2021 sur l’ensemble du territoire national est de favoriser la prévention du passage à l’acte et de la récidive. Au regard de l’expérience internationale où ce type de prise en charge existe depuis les années 1980, cela pose la question de la structuration des pratiques et celle de procédures d’évaluation systématique des risques de violence. Parallèlement à l’amélioration des pratiques de prises en charge des auteurs de violences conjugales, un état des lieux de la recherche concernant les auteurs de violences conjugales en France est réalisé. Les recherches scientifiques en psychiatrie et en sciences humaines et sociales sont rares, qu’il s’agisse des recherches en sociologie, en droit, dans le milieu pénitentiaire ou dans le domaine médico-psychologique.
The aim of this paper is to report on the current state of research into the perpetrators of intimate partner violence in France in relation to changes in public policy. In France, 22% of women aged 15–49 who are married or are in a relationship have been subjected to physical or sexual violence by their intimate partner. If we also take into account psychological violence, this figure rises to almost 60%. The fight against intimate partner violence has been gathering more and more impetus in France over the last ten years. The first Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combatting violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) was adopted in 2011, and the first country-specific recommendations were made in 2015. Intimate partner violence became a major undertaking of the first five-year term (2017–2022) of the French President of the Republic. In September 2019, his government launched the “Grenelle” of fighting against intimate partner violence, which aimed to identify improvements in the implementation of previous initiatives and to transform professional practices. Included among the measures taken after the “Grenelle”, was the creation of Centers for perpetrators of intimate partner violence (“Centres de prise en charge des auteurs de violences conjugale”: CPCA), and their implementation in 2020–2021 marked a real turning point, at a time when the care of perpetrators had previously received little attention from public policy in France. Other measures will follow, notably those recently introduced in order to better deal with family violence in the courts. Evaluation of these policies shows that there is still considerable room for improvement, but there is currently momentum for further progress, with a clear desire displayed for public authorities to step up their efforts. The primary objective of the CPCA is to stop intimate partner violence and reoffending from happening again. However, they were set up without any standards having been established, e.g. in terms of theoretical references or intervention approaches, as is the case in other countries (United States, United Kingdom, Canada) where the adoption of standards of practice has been gradual over 20 or 30 years. The lack of systematic risk assessment procedures for intimate partner violence in France can also be noted. In the same vein, this work provides an overview of research into the perpetrators of intimate partner violence in France. It reports on national statistical and demographic surveys, and on research in sociology, law, prison administration and the medical-psychological field. Scientific research focusing on the perpetrators of intimate partner in France is rare in psychiatry and the humanities and social sciences. Finally, a research project entitled “A portrait of practices with perpetrators of intimate partner violence and their impact: a case study of 7 to 8 centers which take care of them” funded by the French Ministry for gender equality, diversity and equal opportunities (2023–2024), is presented.
Moral Disengagement (MD) has been found to be related to higher levels of different aggressive and bullying behaviours. Although some studies found that it plays an important role in cyberbullying ...too, results in this field are still puzzling and the association between MD and cyberbullying is still unclear. Therefore, this systematic review was aimed at examining evidence of the association between MD and cyberbullying. We analysed 41 studies, seeking to clarify how cyberbullying perpetrating, and active and passive bystanding behaviours are associated with MD mechanisms, and how the association among these processes may vary depending on the methods of measurement chosen. Taken together, the results confirm that positive associations among MD and both cyberbullying perpetrating and passive bystanding behaviours are significant, even after the roles of moderating variables are accounted for. Results are discussed in terms of their implications for future research and intervention.

This study examined how narration of harm experiences can regulate self and emotions in ways relevant to well-being. Participants (n=88, 65% female) were asked to provide 6 narratives about instances when they were victims of harm and 6 narratives about instances when they were perpetrators of harm. Narratives were coded for extent of exploration, growth, damage conclusions and resolution. Participants drew damage conclusions more frequently in victim narratives and growth conclusions more frequently in perpetrator narratives. Both the type of experience (victim or perpetrator) and the way the experience was narrated (references to damage conclusions and resolution) predicted emotion and identity implications, which were, in turn, related to well-being. Implications for narrative approaches to self-regulation are discussed.
This article reports on a perpetrator-focused partnership approach to tackling domestic abuse. The package of interventions includes an identification tool and a unique multi-agency partnership ...approach to violence prevention and tackling abuse through perpetrator-focused early interventions. An overview of the key outcomes and issues emerging from this innovative package and partnership approach in one policing area in England is offered. Our discussion focuses on issues relating to the development of the co-ordination of the multi-agency tasking and co-ordination (MATAC) approach to addressing domestic abuse, particularly within the context of the opportunities and challenges of the localism agenda in criminal justice. Perceived concerns within the MATAC partnership, about victim safety alongside a heightened ‘focus on perpetrators’, caused us to critically reflect on the convergence of the politics of multi-agency working at very local levels. Our conclusion is that partnership working remains important in the shifting economic and political context in which local agenda setting and commissioning is occurring. The local still matters, and is as challenging as it ever was, in ensuring victim safety.
Negative workplace behavior has received substantial research attention over the past several decades. Although we have learned a lot about the consequences of negative behavior for its victims and ...third-party observers, a less understood but equally important research question pertains to the consequences for bad actors: How does engaging in negative behavior impact one’s thoughts, feelings, and subsequent behaviors? Moreover, do organizational members experience costs or benefits from engaging in negative acts? We address these questions with an integrative review of empirical findings on various actor-centric consequences of a wide range of negative behaviors. We organize these findings into five dominant theoretical perspectives: affective, psychological-needs, relational, psychological-resources, and cognitive-dissonance perspectives. For each perspective, we provide an overview of the theoretical arguments, summarize findings of relevant studies underlying it, and discuss observed patterns and contradictory findings. By doing so, we provide a very tentative answer to our initial questions, contending that engaging in negative acts is a two-edged sword for actors and its costs seem to slightly prevail over its benefits. Nevertheless, we make this preliminary conclusion based upon an incomplete knowledge base. In order to further our understanding of actor-centric outcomes of negative behavior, we also identify several important research gaps and needed future research directions.
Online child sexual abuse (OCSA) is a growing social concern. However, its manifestations among children with disabilities (CWDs), who face an increased risk of sexual abuse, remain largely ...unexamined.
This study aims to fill this gap by examining professionals' perspectives of the OCSA of CWDs through their work at the 105 Hotline, an Israeli national call center that accepts queries and reports of the cyber victimization of minors.
A mixed methods research design was employed. A quantitative analysis was performed on 114 case files involving the OCSA of CWDs, followed by a thematic content analysis of 23 follow-up files by social workers.
The quantitative findings revealed various characteristics of the survivors, their families, and OCSA. The qualitative analysis revealed that professionals indicate multiple interrelated risk factors for the OCSA of CWDs on three levels: child, related to the child's characteristics and disability traits; family, referring to familial complexities, parenting challenges, and socio-economic position; and relational, referring to the online abusive relationships between the perpetrator and the survivor. Furthermore, the online platform comprised characteristics that enhanced the risk of OCSA of CWDs.
The understanding that the OCSA of CWDs as a compounded risk that encompasses personal and environmental risk dimensions is necessary and should guide all professionals' decisions and actions. There is also an urgent need for governmental and community efforts to develop measures, policies, and support systems to reduce OCSA risks for CWDs. Moreover, knowledge and interventions should be developed for professionals and parents of CWDs to improve the identification and response to this overlooked phenomenon.
BACKGROUND: Individuals with schizophrenia are at an increased risk for violence – limited study on exploring the experience of violence in patients with schizophrenia as a perpetrator.
AIM: This ...research aimed to investigate the perception of violence as a perpetrator in Indonesia in patients with schizophrenia.
METHODS: This study used phenomenology using a purposive sampling technique. A total of 40 patients were from the psychiatric ward of significant mental hospitals in West Java, Indonesia. The inclusion criteria for patients were the following: Age over 18 years old confirmed diagnosis with schizophrenia. Focus group discussion of patients comprised four groups. Each group consisted of tens of patients.
RESULTS: The patient’s experiences as a perpetrator were categorized into six subthemes: Committing physical violence to family, quarreling with family, verbal abuse to family, a perpetrator of verbal violence to neighbors, expression of anger to object, and physical violence to nurse.
CONCLUSION: The patient’s experiences of violence were not linear, but rather it was a complex experience of being a perpetrator, yet at the same time as of perpetrator violence. A staff training program to reduce patient violence is needed.
Research on female-perpetrated child sexual abuse, especially maternal sexual abuse, is scarce. Prevalences are assumed to be lower compared to male-perpetrated abuse; however, representative studies ...including female perpetrators are rare. Experiences of male- and female-perpetrated child sexual abuse were examined in a representative German sample. Questions included experiences of hands-on and penetrative sexual abuse. The perpetrator-victim relationship was assessed to calculate prevalences of maternal sexual abuse. A total of 2516 participants (54.53% female, 14-91 years) were questioned and prevalences, as well as group differences between victims of male perpetrators compared to female perpetrators, were calculated. Overall, 10.5% of all participants reported experiences of child sexual abuse. Female perpetrators were involved in 9.9% of the cases, i.e. 1.0% of all participants. Victims of female perpetrators were significantly more often male. A quarter of the adult female perpetrators were the mother figure of the child. The findings suggest that the share of female perpetrators in cases of child sexual abuse is rather small; concurrently, female perpetration is insufficiently recognized. Especially male victims seem to be at risk for sexual abuse by female perpetrators. Contacts for children especially within the professional support system need to be aware of the existence of female perpetrators.
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to study and address the relation between the perpetrator and the victim, in particular the way it is regulated in the Republic of Kosovo by comparing it with ...the regulation in other countries. A long time ago criminal law in its institutes has paid attention only to the perpetrator, trying to guarantee his fundamental rights, it is enough to stop at the institute of presumption of innocence and many other institutes and we can see how importance criminal law and in particular criminal procedure has paid to the perpetrator, and on the other hand the victim has always remained in the shadows.
Therefore, today we find it reasonable to address this issue, to find out from which period criminal law and authors of criminal law turn their heads towards the victim, to find out what is the position of the victim in society today, what steps have been taken in legal terms and also special attention will be paid precisely to restorative justice as a key point for the realization of the rights of the victim, the compensation of the damage and the restoration of balance and the establishment of relations in society. And it is quite important that in addition to the relations that perpetrators have with victims, we also try to understand the historical course of restorative justice and this way to make an analysis of the position of the victim and the perpetrator over the decades.
