This book examines how Korean television dramas and K-pop music are employed to promote urban and rural regions within South Korea to overseas tourists. Riding the international popularity of Korean ...entertainment, Korean cities have actively used K-dramas and K-pop idols in advertisements designed to attract foreign tourists to their regions. By examining the process of cultural marketing, this book shows that places can be “sold” just like TV dramas and pop idols by promoting spectacular images rather than substantial physical and cultural qualities.
By applying the theory of Economic Diplomacy by Rana and Chatterjee, Public Diplomacy by McClory and State Identity by Maxym Alexandrov, the main purpose of this study was to analyze the reasons ...behind South Korea’s promotion of soft masculinity through their means of public diplomacy, such as K-Pop and Korean drama. Particularly in South Korea, ideas about how to look good as ‘a man’ are changing attitudes and also influencing the world. The study has applied phenomenology methodology and qualitative research methods to understand the contemporary international relations phenomenon which are soft masculinity and economic diplomacy. The unit of analysis examined as the subject is ‘South Korean government’ and the unit of explanation were the driving factors of why South Korea promotes soft masculinity. The data were taken from the secondary sources such as various books, journals, reports, as well as documents from different relevant websites and a comprehensive and systematic analysis were applied. It was found that soft masculinity as an image that is promoted through the public diplomacy tool of South Korea, such as K-Pop creates the appeal of the country towards the global audience as it is a rarity. South Korea has become the front liner of soft masculinity by incorporating the image through its economic diplomacy. This research further reveals that South Korea promotes soft masculinity in its K-Pop product because the country is utilizing the uniqueness of soft masculinity as its brand image to enhance its economic diplomacy for its cosmetic industry

Presents the contributions of the Cuca Network Library System (Fortaleza/Ceará) in the context of information mediation and cultural mediation through the promotion and realization of Geek Month, an ...event that aims to awaken in young people the interest for culture and information. It seeks to reflect on the influence caused by geek, nerd and pop culture on its consumer public, characterized, in its great majority, by young people. It analyzes the strategies used by the promoters of the event in terms of the appropriation of knowledge of a type of culture that usually only reaches the most economically favored classes. Regarding methodology, it is used bibliographic research and exploratory research, through quali-quantitative analysis of data obtained through the editions of the Geek Month, from 2017 to 2021 and interviews with librarians and other members of the promoting teams. We conclude that, through the cultural universe presented by Geek Month, we realize the importance of information mediation and cultural mediation, which open paths for the production, circulation and appropriation of knowledge by the subjects, intensifying the struggle and contribution to a less unequal society, which perceives information and culture as social and human rights.
Présente les contributions du système de bibliothèques du réseau Cuca (Fortaleza/Ceará) dans le contexte de la médiation de l'information et de la médiation culturelle à travers la promotion et la réalisation du Geek Month, un événement qui vise à éveiller chez les jeunes l'intérêt pour la culture et l'information. Il cherche à réfléchir à l'influence exercée par la culture geek, nerd et populaire sur son public de consommateurs, caractérisé, dans sa grande majorité, par des jeunes. Elle analyse les stratégies utilisées par les promoteurs de l'événement en ce qui concerne l'appropriation de la connaissance d'un type de culture qui ne touche généralement que les classes économiquement les plus favorisées. En ce qui concerne la méthodologie, il est utilisé la recherche bibliographique et la recherche de nature exploratoire, à travers l'analyse quali-quantitative des données obtenues à travers les éditions du Geek Month, de 2017 à 2021 et les entretiens réalisés avec les bibliothécaires et les autres membres des équipes de promotion. Nous concluons que, à travers l'univers culturel présenté par le Mois du Geek, nous nous rendons compte de l'importance de la médiation de l'information et de la médiation culturelle, qui ouvrent des voies pour la production, la circulation et l'appropriation de la connaissance par les sujets, intensifiant la lutte et la contribution à une société moins inégale, qui perçoit l'information et la culture comme des droits sociaux et humains.
Presenta i contributi del Sistema Bibliotecario della Rete Cuca (Fortaleza/Ceará) nel contesto della mediazione informativa e culturale attraverso la promozione e la realizzazione del Mese del Geek, un evento che mira a risvegliare nei giovani l'interesse per la cultura e l'informazione. Cerca di riflettere sull'influenza esercitata dalla cultura geek, geek e pop sul suo pubblico di consumatori, caratterizzato, nella sua grande maggioranza, da giovani. Analizza le strategie utilizzate dai promotori dell'evento per quanto riguarda l'appropriazione della conoscenza di un tipo di cultura che generalmente raggiunge solo le classi economicamente più favorite. Per quanto riguarda la metodologia, viene utilizzata la ricerca bibliografica e la ricerca di natura esplorativa, attraverso l'analisi quali-quantitativa dei dati ottenuti attraverso le edizioni del Mese del Geek, dal 2017 al 2021 e le interviste condotte con i bibliotecari e gli altri membri dei team promotori. Concludiamo che, attraverso l'universo culturale presentato dal Geek Month, ci rendiamo conto dell'importanza della mediazione informativa e della mediazione culturale, che aprono strade per la produzione, la circolazione e l'appropriazione della conoscenza da parte dei soggetti, intensificando la lotta e il contributo a una società meno diseguale, che percepisce l'informazione e la cultura come diritti sociali e umani.

Busca refletir sobre a influência causada pela cultura nerd, geek e pop sobre o seu público consumidor, caracterizado, em sua grande maioria, por jovens. Analisa as estratégias utilizadas pelos promotores do evento no que tange à apropriação de saberes de um tipo de cultura que geralmente só atingem às classes mais favorecidas economicamente. Em relação à metodologia, utiliza-se de pesquisa bibliográfica e pesquisa de caráter exploratório, através de análise quali-quantitativa de dados obtidos por meio das edições do Mês Geek, de 2017 a 2021 e de entrevista realizada com as bibliotecárias e demais membros das equipes promotoras. Conclui-se que, através do universo cultural apresentado pelo Mês Geek, percebe-se a importância da mediação da informação e da mediação cultural, que abrem caminhos para a produção, circulação e apropriação de saberes por parte dos sujeitos, intensificando a luta e contribuição para uma sociedade menos desigual, que perceba informação e cultura como direitos sociais e humanos.
Presenta las contribuciones del Sistema de Bibliotecas de la Red Cuca (Fortaleza/Ceará) en el contexto de la mediación de la información y la mediación cultural a través de la promoción y realización del Mes Geek, un evento que pretende despertar en los jóvenes el interés por la cultura y la información. Pretende reflexionar sobre la influencia que provoca la cultura geek, friki y pop en su público consumidor, caracterizado, en su gran mayoría, por los jóvenes. Analiza las estrategias utilizadas por los promotores del evento en relación con la apropiación del conocimiento de un tipo de cultura que generalmente sólo llega a las clases económicamente más favorecidas. En cuanto a la metodología, se utiliza la investigación bibliográfica y la investigación de carácter exploratorio, a través del análisis cuali-cuantitativo de los datos obtenidos a través de las ediciones del Mes Geek, de 2017 a 2021 y las entrevistas realizadas a los bibliotecarios y otros miembros de los equipos promotores. Concluimos que, a través del universo cultural presentado por el Mes Geek, nos damos cuenta de la importancia de la mediación informativa y de la mediación cultural, que abren caminos para la producción, circulación y apropiación del conocimiento por parte de los sujetos, intensificando la lucha y la contribución a una sociedad menos desigual, que percibe la información y la cultura como derechos sociales y humanos.
