Realizing the importance of location, economists are increasingly adopting spatial analytical and spatial econometric perspectives to study questions such as the geographical targeting of policy ...interventions, regional agglomeration effects, the diffusion of technologies across space, or causes and consequences of land-cover change. Explicitly accounting for location in econometric estimations can be of great benefit for researchers working at the interface of economics or environmental sciences and geography. The objective of this article is to demonstrate how spatially explicit raster data derived from standard geographical information system (GIS) software can be used within Stata. Three programs implemented as ado-files are presented. These import geographic raster data into Stata (ras2dta), draw systematic spatial samples within Stata (spatsam), and export data and estimation results in a form usable by standard GIS software (dta2ras). A numerical example is presented to estimate the determinants of forest cover with a spatially explicit logit model, calculate predicted probabilities, and map the predictions with GIS software.
The usage method in GIS by digitalizing the road register formerly maintained as the paper was investigated. The easy and lower-cost method for maintaining new drawings using RTK-GPS survey was made ...in setting up the location reference points, and the usefulness of this method was certified. To establish the method for using existing road register, these data is used in GIS without loosing assets. And more, the way for maintaining GIS data using RTK-GPS survey was confirmed in lower cost than before.

In recent year, along with the grading up of living standard and increase of free time, interests have become more concentrated whole through the nation on substantial improvement of living ...environment and creation of comfortable and attractive cities. To answer to these tendencies, various policies have been taken to promote tree-planting campaign and protect the green in and around the cities. As part of this movement, evaluation has been made on the various functions and effects which the green belt in the city have. The green belts of cities have diversified functions like environment mitigation functions such as mitigation of weather conditions, dust prevention, wind breaking and noise prevention, disaster prevention functions such as prevention of run-off of sand prevention of flood, water resouce preservation function to control water volume, recreational function, scenic function to form the scenery of cities. Natural and social conditions are used to evaluate them, but the volume of these data is huge. Mesh data have been mainly used in the conventional method to evaluate the function of green belts, and much time and labor have been consumed for the construction of original mesh data to be used as the base of it. Furthermore, the evaluation was possible only for a micro-sized area because of the size of mesh to be used. Therefore, we tried to build up an evaluation system which enables to evaluate green belts by an easy operation by converting the huge volume of evaluation factor data into image database. The following is the report of a part of our study.
