OPTIMIZING READING INTEREST IN CHILDREN OF MEDALSARI VILLAGE DURING THE PANDEMIC THROUGH STORYTELLING. This study aims to (1) Attach the implementation reading method to storytelling students’ ...interesting in reading at Desa Medalsari when pandemic era, (2) attach to happiness, joy and comfort in fostering reader and listener when reading the book and storytelling. The type of research used is qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive research design. This research uses interview, observation and documentation. The object of research is elementary students to leaving at Desa Medalsari. The research showed that students is very interesting and admit that grow up storytelling to help reading interest. The results showed that: (1) the goal of storytelling to make easier the students got the information from the speaker how to read a book from storytelling well. (2) Factors supporting the implementation of reading angles include: the role of the parents who do not provide reading habit, students are not fluent in reading, damaged book. (3) The advantages are the children get the experience of the interesting story. (4) The children will know books and start loving to read books.
In the AI era, it has become crucial to evaluate information found on the Internet critically. This research aimed to investigate the impact of a sourcing organizer on sixth graders' online ...multimodal and multiple document reading (MMDR) abilities, focusing on aspects such as source-content link and text integration in relation to reading on the Internet. Cognitive and affective factors associated with MMDR were examined. The study involved 52 sixth-graders (55.77% males) from two typical elementary school classes in the northern region of Taiwan. Two intact classes were randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group with the quasi-experimental design. The experimental group (n = 26) received a pre-outlined sourcing organizer, guiding them to record the article title, author, publication date, website name, and major assertions from six assigned multimodal texts. In contrast, the control group (n = 26) received a regular organizer, prompting them to summarize the main ideas from the same six assigned multimodal texts. The study's findings indicated that employing sourcing organizers positively impacted students' performance in text integration. However, it was observed that both groups, regardless of whether they used regular organizers or sourcing organizers, experienced benefits in terms of source-content links. Furthermore, reading ability emerged as the sole significant predictor for source-content links, whereas both reading ability and the use of sourcing organizers predicted text integration. The implications of these findings were discussed to provide insights into instructional strategies to develop online MMDR competencies in elementary students.
•The sourcing organizer effect is tested on children's multiple document reading.•Sourcing organizers benefit children's text integration but not source-content link.•Reading ability is the only factor that predicts scores in the source-content link.•Reading ability and sourcing organizers predict better text integration.•Strategies to foster epistemic cognition in multiple document reading are discussed.
•Intrinsic reading motivation was measurement invariant from Grades 5–10.•Students’ motivation declined regardless of gender, SES, and school tracks.•Boys experienced larger declines in motivation ...compared to girls.•The rate of motivational decline was similar across SES and school tracks.•Larger declines in motivation were related to slower growths in reading proficiency.
The goal of the present study is to extend previous research on the developmental trajectory of intrinsic reading motivation during early adolescence. Using large-scale panel data on secondary school students in Germany, we examined: (1) the longitudinal measurement invariance of intrinsic reading motivation, (2) the generalizability of the developmental trajectory of intrinsic reading motivation across students’ gender, parental socioeconomic status (SES), and school tracks (academic vs. vocational), and (3) the associations between the developmental trajectory of intrinsic reading motivation and the developmental trajectory of reading proficiency. The scale we used to measure intrinsic reading motivation showed the (strict) measurement invariance across six occasions of measurement from Grades 5 to 10, indicating the high structural similarity (e.g., factor loadings, intercepts) of intrinsic reading motivation during early adolescence. Our analyses of latent growth curve models also confirm previous findings that students tend to experience a steady and significant linear decline in intrinsic reading motivation from Grades 5 to 10. This developmental decline also seems to be more pronounced in size (Δ = − 0.772, p < .001) than previously reported. The developmental decline in intrinsic reading motivation was observed irrespective of students’ gender, parental SES, and school tracks. Male students expressed lower mean-levels of intrinsic reading motivation across the waves and exhibited a steeper motivational decline compared to female students. Despite mean-level differences across the waves, students showed similar degrees of a motivational decline across parental SES and school tracks. Finally, the larger decline in students’ intrinsic reading motivation was associated with the smaller growth of their reading proficiency from Grades 5 to 10. Our study provides further support for the high prevalence of the developmental decline in intrinsic reading motivation during early adolescence, its generalizability across students’ demographic characteristics, and its implications for the development of reading proficiency.
This paper explains the effect of basic literacy activity on the reading interest of grade V students at UPT SD Negeri 068008 Medan Tuntungan for the academic year 2022/2023. The study uses ...quantitative methods. The research population is 29 fifth-grade students of UPT SD Negeri 068008 Medan Tuntungan. The sampling uses saturated samples for 29 VA class students. The result implies that the student’s average score is 82.2, which is in the moderate category before the treatment. Based on the normality test result at 0.936, the data are normally distributed. The result of the correlation test is 0.720, which means rcount 0.720 ≥ rtable 0.367, then Ha is accepted. Thus, there is a considerable effect between basic literacy activity on students' reading interest in class V UPT SD Negeri 068008 Medan Tuntungan. It can be seen from the T-test result where the tcount 5,391 ≥ ttable 1,703 so Ha is accepted. Hence, there is a significant positive effect of basic literacy activity on students' reading interest in class V of UPT SD Negeri 068008 Medan Tuntungan for the academic year 2022/2023.
The role of the head is very necessary in managing an institution to be more developed, the role of the head is also very helpful in the progress of the program carried out by the institution where ...the head can manage and motivate all components of the school with the right strategy. This study aims to analyze and understand the strategy of a leader in increasing reading interest in students by implementing literacy culture in a school, namely MI Ihyauddiniyah, Duren Village, Gading District, Probolinggo Regency. The research method uses a qualitative approach from the type of case study, to get an overview of a leader's strategy in increasing reading interest in students by applying literacy culture, observation of researchers by mingling directly in the field then conducting interviews with several informants, namely principals and teachers at school. The results showed that a leader's strategy in increasing reading interest in students by implementing literacy culture by; Compulsory reading culture, strengthening human resources, and procuring infrastructure. With the strategy carried out by the leadership in building a literacy culture, it can have implications for fostering children's interest in reading, writing skills, language proficiency and work, especially at MI Ihyauddiniyah.
