This volume focuses on the names of Slovenian regions and how they are connected with regional identity. The introduction defines the basic terms and provides an overview of Slovenian research on ...geographical names. The second part chronologically outlines the sources of the names of regions, starting with archival material. This is followed by an overview of modern maps and registers by the Slovenian Surveying and Mapping Authority (GURS), and, finally, geographical regionalizations are presented as a source of the names of regions. The third part presents the results of collecting the names of regions as part of a survey. The findings show the following: the names of regions reflect regional identity and represent an important factor in the residents’ minds, they are not hierarchically structured, the majority are deeply rooted among people, some are disappearing, and the share of newly established names is negligible. In people’s minds, the names of regions have an unclearly defined denotation or scope and, like other linguistic elements, change over time.
The publication publishes excursions of the Ljubljana Geographical Society, carried out between April 2015 and May 2019. If we break down individual contributions according to their main ...characteristics, we can point out some interesting findings. Let us first mention their concentration in the western part of Slovenia. Southwestern Slovenia stands out as an area of strong regional dominance, with the participants taking advantage of two excursions to the wide-open state border with Italy, created by Slovenia's entry into the Schengen area. The variety of excursions according to the method of implementation is also noticeable. As a rule, classic bus transport is enriched by walking. Completely different logistics were needed to carry out a cycling excursion through the Slovenian and Italian Karst. There is a continuing tendency for geographical knowledge to increasingly complement the content of other disciplines, especially archeology and ethnology, which certainly enriches excursions due to a different view of the landscape and emphases that geographers usually ignore or do not know much about.
U prošlosti je regionalna geografija imala veću važnost u sveučilišnim nastavnim programima geografije nego danas. Na nekim je slovenskim sveučilištima regionalna geografija Azije samo izborni ...predmet. To smatramo slabom točkom jer je Azija (a unatrag desetak godina osobito jugoistočna Azija) jedna od vodećih gospodarskih sila i najnastanjeniji kontinent, te bi geografi trebali biti upoznati s pojedinim njezinim regijama. Naš je cilj bio analizirati nastavni program geografije jugoistočne Azije i steći uvid u njegovu strukturu i metodogiju obrazovanja. U tu smo svrhu analizirali nastavne programe geografije i 27 materijala za učenje geografije jugoistočne Azije. Dodatni nam je cilj bio otkriti zahtijeva li regionalna geografija jugoistočne Azije inovativnije obrazovne pristupe s obzirom na to da mnogo geografa traži posao u tom dijelu svijeta. Otkrili smo da unatoč svakodnevnim vezama s jugoistočnom Azijom zbog mnoštva proizvoda i izvora energije iz toga dijela svijeta mi i dalje taj dio Azije ne uključujemo posve u poučavanje regionalne geografije.
The 7th guidebook contains six excursions of the Ljubljana Geographical Society which took place between September 2012 and November 2014. An additional excursion of the Geomorphological Association ...of Slovenia from March 2012 was added. Every excursion is thematically unique, thus mutually complementing all of them to different collage and displaying the broad geographical horizon.The first excursion guides us to the plateau of Banjšice and to Čepovanski dol, the second introduces us with different landscape, historical and artistic elements of the valley of Selška Sora, the third takes us to the east of the country to Obsotelje and Kozjansko, the fourth deals with the valley of Dravinja River and the learning polygons, the fifth deals in details with Goričko~the least developed Slovenian region, the sixth takes us through the history of arms in the Park of the military history in Pivka, the last exursion gives us detailed introduction with the less known karstic features on flysch and the measurement of the erosion in flyschy Slovene Grey Istria.
The book Prostor, regija, razvoj ('Space, region, development') deals with numerous issues, relevant for regional policy and sustainable regional and spatial development. The fields addressed, like ...monitoring and evaluation, processes of urban development, situation on the real estate market, creative class, creative industry, cultural industry, and natural conditions as a factor of spatial and regional development, show the diversity and complexity of the processes taking place in space and regions. From this perspective our ambition is not to solve all the crucial issues at one time, but to contribute to spatial and regional policy with selected studies, methodological approaches and policy recommendations. The chapters pave the way to integrated spatial and regional development, bearing in mind complexity of the field and knowing the most recent analyses. In order to support decision-making with the adequate knowledge, comprehensive studies should be further supported and later used in the policy making processes.
Terraced landscapes with agricultural terraces are cultural landscapes with a special value. This volume presents them in pictures and words in all their diversity and attractiveness. After ...discussing the global and European dimensions of terraced landscapes and their agricultural terraces, the volume focuses on Slovenian terraced landscapes~they are discussed separately by landscape types, individual regions, and sample cases in the territory of selected settlements (pilot areas). The conclusion also draws attention to the exceptional value and appeal of non-agricultural terraced landscapes that have been shaped by nature and man.
The Alps are one of the most sensitive regions in Europe, and their future development represents a challenge that demands the cooperation of various experts, the business world, politics, and ...society, as well as the people living there. The Interreg IIIB project DIAMONT, which took place from 2005 to 2008, also addressed Alpine developmental challenges. This monograph presents the basic results of the project, supported by the broader theoretical framework of regional and sustainable development. We first present the cultural differences in the Alps and their influence on sustainable regional development. This is followed by the results of a Delphi analysis, which helped reveal the basic development tendencies in the Alps, and then we discuss appropriate indicators for regional development and harmonizing data. Attention is then dedicated to regional development instruments and the participative process, which is essential for attaining truly sustainable development. Finally, we present a Slovenian perspective on these issues.
This book (‘Spatial and regional development of the Mediterranean: A unified approach and selected tools’) discusses the main development challenges and factors influencing the attainment of ...territorial cohesion and competitiveness of Mediterranean regions. In addition to the main physical and socio-geographic features, it summarizes some of the results of the transnational project OTREMED (Tool for the Territorial Strategy of the MED Space). The methodology for developing a uniform approach to spatial and regional planning in the Mediterranean macroregion – or a tool for uniformly monitoring the area’s development challenges – has been developed as part of this project. This tool is based on selected development factors and indicators, which are presented in greater detail for the Mediterranean part of Slovenia.
