Purpose - The purpose of this paper is, firstly, to review existing schools of thought and to identify present research fields in new service development (NSD) and service innovation research, and, ...secondly, to discuss future research opportunities.Design methodology approach - The literature review is based on a search for "service innovation" and "NSD" in titles, abstracts and keywords of articles. As a result of looking at the references, as well as through analysis of papers which cite the articles identified, additional publications are included in this study.Findings - Four schools of thought and five distinct research fields are presented. Herein, the authors show that there is a lack of studies of organisational innovations, and that differences in the drivers for radical or incremental innovations may be of degree rather than of kind. Further, contradictory results in the research field on differences versus similarities of new product and NSD are identified. In addition, the authors propose possible pathways for future research for each research field and school of thought.Research limitations implications - The scope of publications included in this review may be subject to criticism as book-publications may be under-represented in this review. Also, the keywords used for the initial search could include additional words.Originality value - The paper groups previously scattered research activities from various backgrounds such as marketing and operations into distinct research fields, and presents both the status quo and a discussion of possible directions for future research.
Based on the identification of the discourse of choice in debates on neoliberalism, meritocracy and post-feminism, this article analyses how highly educated mothers position themselves within the ...discourse of choice and use choice as their discursive resource when reflecting on how their demanding careers combine with motherhood. The data come from 26 interviews with mothers employed in research and innovation in Finland. The analysis reveals five ways in which the mothers positioned themselves within the discourse of choice. It appears these ways are all based on, and produce, the moral primacy of individual self-governance. We treat this as a demonstration of how neoliberalism is internalized and lived. Furthermore, the results show that an egalitarian welfare society whose policies support work–childcare reconciliation does not remove the need to use the individualistic discourse of choice. We suggest that this could be changed by voicing the challenges it poses to many women.
Objective. To identify protocols for rapid identification of bacteria by MALDI-TOF from positive blood cultures that are as accurate as standardized ones. Methods. A bibliographic review was ...conducted on experimental articles, systematic reviews, experimental studies, and diagnostic test studies on the rapid identification of bacteria by MALDI-TOF from positive blood cultures. The QUADAS-2 tool was applied to evaluate the risk of bias in the articles. Results. There are various methodologies for the rapid identification of bacteria from positive blood cultures, all with a processing time of no more than one hour and with materials accessible in laboratories. These methodologies, such as Sepsityper and artisanal methods, achieve good accuracy in identifying Gram-negative bacteria, but there are still limitations in identifying Gram-positive bacteria depending on the genus and species of the bacterium. It is important to note that the quality of evidence in most studies is moderate, so the results should be taken with caution. Conclusion. There are several methodologies for rapid identification of bacteria in positive blood cultures, with short processing times and accessible materials in laboratories, that achieve good accuracy in identifying Gram-negative bacteria but have limitations in identifying Gram-positive bacteria. The quality of evidence is moderate, indicating that further studies with better design and higher quality and certainty results are needed to draw inferences obtained.
Introduction: As a full-fledged Bologna process participant, Kazakhstan is continuously implementing reforms aimed at medical education, impacting country's human capital. The professional capable of ...a lifelong learning is the main goal of modern education. The central role in reaching this goal is entrusted to the higher education. The relevance of our study lies within the curriculum changes with more hours for students’ independent work, which is the main method of obtaining reliable information and acquiring competence for lifelong learning. The aim of our study was to evaluate the students’ opinion on the self-study system at the Karaganda Medical University, revealing existing difficulties in the students’ acceptance of the Bologna process requirements, identifying methods to increase their involvement in self-education and scientific research. Materials and Methods: an anonymous survey was conducted among the 426 of the 3rd – 7th year and residency students, including 20 questions to identify students’ attitude to the individual work methodology as a factor for the development of skills for lifelong learning. Results and Discussion: the majority of students are voluntarily involved in the independent learning, understand its purpose, and use English-language sources with reliable up-to-date information. Less than half of the students evaluate their skills of information search and presentation as «average» and only about a quarter of them as «high». More than half of the students demonstrate interest in increasing their level of competence with these skills. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that since the Republic of Kazakhstan accession to the BP the «Karaganda Medical University» successfully integrates new educational requirements into the educational process. Higher education system needs further improvement to better understand the students, remove barriers to progress and preserve students’ motivation to further develop personal potential.
Purpose - The aim of the paper is to carry out a contemporary and concise "state-of-the-art" review of the city branding research domain, in particular how scholars have approached this field of ...study, what aspects of city branding have been studied, what cities have been chosen, and how the studies are designed. Design/methodology/approach - Through an iterative search in multiple literature databases, 217 qualified research studies on city branding were identified and retrieved. Those studies were examined, analyzed and categorized according to six categories: bibliographical data, methodologies used, empirical foundation, conceptual frameworks, branding elements, and reported outcomes of branding efforts. Findings - City branding is emerging as an internationally recognized research domain characterized by a high degree of multi-disciplinary, rapid proliferation in and between disciplines, and a somewhat fragmented theoretical foundation. On the basis of research interests, three perspectives were identified (producing, consuming, and criticizing city branding) emerging across academic disciplines Research limitations/implications - The study is based on research articles in English, published in academic journals, which limits the international and professional scope of the study. Another limitation is the selected time period, which does not include studies prior to 1988 or later than 2009. Originality/value - As a state-of-the-art review, the main contribution of this paper is a contemporary and comprehensive overview of the field as such. A methodological contribution is the attempt to run a multi-variate analysis of the branding elements in relation to the output and performance data reported in the studies. Another contribution is the identification of three cross-disciplinary research perspectives in the field today.PUBLICATION ABSTRACT

To obtain a precarious position in a social science department of a North American university is to discover the competition of everyone against everyone, to learn that the search for funding is more ...important than the research itself and to observe the dilution of scientific issues in continuous evaluation and bibliometric accounting. In short, it means discovering the horrors of the university to come a little in advance.

Introduction. A significant place in the system of higher professional education of modern Russia is occupied by the problem of the formation of civic consciousness and patriotism of student youth, ...the solution resource of which is a variety of means and methods of local history activities. In this context, it is relevant to study the methodological experience gained in previous historical stages, as well as the factors that determined the effectiveness of pedagogical influence through historical local history. Theoretical analysis. In the course of the study, the main trends in the development of the historical and local history activities of Soviet students, typical for the second half of the 1950s – the middle 1980s, (activization of students' research work strengthening interdisciplinary connections in the learning process, and increasing the role of industrial and educational practice, as socally significant labor activity) have been singled out. Conclusion. A conclusion about the decisive role of the state policy, which determined the emergence of these trends and, accordingly, the need to develop new forms and methods of work in studing and popularizing the knowledge of students' native land history. This historical experience gained can be used by modern practitioners in the process of organizing program and non-program historical and local history activities of students in order to form their ethno-regional self-awareness, which plays an important role in the process of patriotic education.
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to identify and examine emerging trends in event and festival research and also in the themes and topics being studied in this area.Design methodology approach ...- Taking an innovative approach, this paper used an abridged version of Q methodology to seek the opinions of events experts on the topics and themes that will underpin the future development of an events and festivals research agenda.Findings - The results of this research revealed that events experts feel that there are several areas that have been comprehensively researched and where further research is unlikely to provide any new information. These include definitions and types of events, and events logistics and staging. Directions for future events and festivals research include the need for studies on the socio-cultural and environmental impacts of events along with a better understanding of the relationship between events and public policy agendas. This research has also highlighted a lack of research in the area of Indigenous events.Research limitations implications - The identification of these gaps in our current knowledge provide opportunity for further development of a research agenda for events and festivals, which will have substantial implications both for academia and for the events and festivals industry. Limitations include a relatively small sample size, and the resulting abridgement of the full Q methodology.Originality value - This paper represents a comprehensive overview of existing studies, providing vital information for events researchers in all areas of the field. Further, the research highlights research gaps that would benefit from future study, and also identifies those areas where further study is unlikely to provide new knowledge.
Three-dimensional (3D) food printing is one technology that can revolutionized food processing and product development due to its multiple advantages including the design of customized, personalized ...nutrition food design from available food material, among others. Research documents on 3D food printing came into the limelight in the year 2006, and have since exponentially increased, especially in developed countries. In this review, we collected and analysed scientific documents related to 3D food printing (3DFP). The collected data were analysed on VoSViewer 1.6.18 for annual publication trend, contributing authors, countries, institutions, funding agencies, journals and the relationship between these parameters. With a total of 800 documents which showed an increasing trend over the years, China was identified as the most productive country. In contrast, significantly much less studies emanated from Africa. As such, African institutions and scientists working on 3DFP need to collaborate with relevant researchers in institutions around the world to advance this processing technique, while relevant stakeholders also need to provide necessary funds needed.
