Abstract Definition of the problem Enjoyment has not yet played a significant role in ethical approaches to (geriatric) care. Rather, the focus of ethical considerations is often on questions of self-reliance and autonomy. Relevant topics are skills loss issues and how to deal with them. Although it is very important to allow grief in the context of the need for care and of aging, the question remains: in how far could an ethics of enjoyment help to set a further focus on questions of relish. Argumentation and sources Philosophical and theological approaches such as those of Emmanuel Lévinas, Ina Praetorius and Corine Pelluchon show the fundamental importance of corporeality, being nourished and enjoyment. Also, moments of sensual indulgence are valued as meaningful by nursing staff and by persons cared for. These moments can be part of professional care but also happen in situations that go beyond nursing activity in the narrower sense. Moments of enjoyment are interrelated with livability, happiness and health but cannot be fully functionalized. Conclusion An ethics of enjoyment based on these approaches can enrich the perception of care and the theoretical and empirical study of care. This article offers an ethical introduction into the topic and a draft of an ethics of enjoyment in theses.
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the mediating effect of brand love on purchase intention and word-of-mouth through mystery, sensuality and intimacy as brand image dimensions in the context of ...neo-luxury brands. It also explores the moderating effect of duration and intensity of consumer-brand relationships on brand image dimensions.
Design/methodology/approach
The data collection was done via an online survey of a representative group of Millennials. Data analysis was performed using structural equation modeling and multi-group analysis.
Findings
The paper suggests that brand love mediates the relationship between brand image, purchase intention and word-of-mouth for both Apple and Michael Kors brands. This study also identifies differences in the effects of intimacy, sensuality and mystery on brand love. Additionally, it is demonstrated that the moderation effect of intensity and duration of consumer-brand relationships varies among the two neo-luxury brands.
Research limitations/implications
Further research should aim at investigating other categories of products and services in the field of neo-luxury, as this study focus on fashion and mobile brands. Other antecedents and outcomes of brand love should also be evaluated, as well as other moderating variables.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the fast-growing consumer-brand relationships literature by exploring the role of brand love in the context of the emergent neo-luxury paradigm. It also intends to provide a better understanding of how to build and nurture an effective brand image through a multidisciplinary approach that combines mystery, sensuality and intimacy.
The paper examines the relationship between aesthetics and politics. In modern humanities, we can find few conceptions of this relationship. These conceptions are not only part of political ...philosophy or political theory, but also a methodological instrument for analyzing modern politics and aesthetics. They provide an opportunity to understand both the features of contemporary politics and the state of modern aesthetic theory in light of the significant changes that have affected both of these spheres. This article analyzes the main models of the relation between aesthetics and politics. We intend to explore the conception of an aesthetic representation by Frank Ankersmit, the conception of aesthetics as politics by Jacques Rancière, and the conception of the emancipation of society by Gianni Vattimo.
The central purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between certain personal qualities with high and optimal sexual satisfaction. There is a breadth of research on sexual function ...and dysfunction and several studies on sexual satisfaction. However, very little research exists on what kind of qualities are likely to lead to optimal sexual experiences, and to my knowledge this is the first quantitative study on the topic. The author selected three key qualities-sensuality, imagination, and curiosity-to examine how they relate to high and optimal sexual satisfaction. Because the literature has shown strong support of the positive relationship between sexual satisfaction and relationship satisfaction, participants were divided into two groups - those judged to be in secure relationships versus those in insecure relationships. A large sample of people (N = 195) completed an online survey composed of five measures. Results indicated a statistically significant positive correlation between sensuality, imagination, and curiosity with sexual satisfaction-but only among individuals in a secure relationship. Results indicate a statistically significant positive correlation of sensuality and imagination among those with optimal sexual satisfaction. In conclusion, implications are discussed, including strengths and limitations of the study, suggestions for sex therapists and sex educators, and recommendations for future research.
Dance for Parkinson's can be characterised as a growing social movement which has become a worldwide phenomenon that gives rise to new questions about the meaning and importance of dance in relation ...to intersecting and overlapping identity categories of ageing and chronic conditions. In this article, we probe into the potentially constructive interplay between the lived experiences of Parkinson's dance as a space of revitalised sensuality and the cultural imaginations and values connected to the nexus between ageing and chronic conditions. Through a dialogic interpretive framework that recognises and ascribes value to the embodied experiences of Parkinson's dancers, we analyse how the experiences of living with Parkinson's as a chronic condition in the context of ageing are in interplay with the experiences of dancing as an embodied sensual activity. Consequently, we propose that, by emphasising the critical value of stories told by Parkinson's dancers, we are able to gain a more nuanced understanding of how Parkinson's dance affects the nexus between ageing and chronic conditions in revitalising and sensual ways.

In The Fire Next Time, African American writer James Baldwin describes the sensual as, “respecting and rejoiceing in the force of life, of life itself, and to be present in all that one does, from ...the effort of loving to the breaking of bread” (1998c 311). Baldwinian sensuality is divorced from its hedonistic interpretation, instead expressing a form of knowledge and a practice of living in openness to each other and the complexity of our humanity. In his essays and novels, Baldwin works at the intersection of his readers’ “sense of reality,” or lived experience of the world, and “system of reality,” the sociological structure in which they are positioned. In this article, we read Giovanni’s Room (1956) as a site for identifying Baldwin’s techniques for evoking the sensual and experimenting with its effects on individuals and the postwar system(s) of reality. These techniques connect Baldwin’s literary persona and its transformations with the form and content of his essays, providing a framework for analyzing the tension between heteronormative love and queer desire experienced by David in the novel. Using this analysis, we articulate a Baldwinian theory of the sensual as a site for interventions against the racism and homophobia generated by our 21st-century system of reality and as a source of techniques for altering our sense of reality to make systemic transformations possible.
Our previous efforts to probe the complex, rich experiential lives of unicellular species have focused on the origins of consciousness (Reber, 2019) and the biomolecular processes that underlie ...sentience (Reber et al., 2023). Implied, but unexplored, was the assumption that these cognitive functions and associated unicellular organismal behaviors were linked with and often driven by affect, feelings, sensual experiences. In this essay we dig more deeply into these valenced (We're using the term valence here to cover the aspects of sensory experiences that have evaluative elements, are experienced as positive or negative ─ those where this affective, internal representation is an essential element in how the input is interpreted and responded to.) self-referencing features. In the first part, we examine the empirical evidence for various sensual experiences that have been identified. In the second part, we look at other features of prokaryote life that appear to also have affective, valenced elements but where the data to support the proposition aren't as strong. We engage in some informed speculation about these phenomena.
Sensuality, an essential component of sexuality, is the enjoyment, expression, or pursuit of physical and sexual pleasure or satisfaction. Sensuality expression of women over 50 is under-researched ...and often ignored, making it difficult to have a scientific basis to develop age-appropriate healthy-ageing programmes for this group in Nigeria. An exploratory study was conducted to explore the lived experiences of the expression of sensuality of Nigerian women over 50 and the meaning they attach thereto.
An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis approach was used to collect and analyze data from 17 female teachers from three public secondary schools in Osun state, Nigeria, to represent a homogenous group of professional women over the age of 50. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to obtain qualitative data that was thematically analyzed.
Four superordinate themes emerged: 'Self-reinvention to camouflage ageing realities for sensuality expression'; 'Embracing own sensuality'; 'Yearning for old self'; and 'Loss of interest in romantic relationships', with various subordinate themes.
These finding provide the basis to develop age-appropriate healthy-ageing programmes for this group, and a baseline for further sexual health research among this group of women in Nigeria, who are often overlooked or considered asexual due to their being beyond the reproductive age.
