La notion d’“héritage” peut être discutée dans une perspective constructiviste selon trois figures principales qui illustrent les ruptures générationnelles et socioculturelles dans l’immigration ...postcoloniale. De 1962 à 1970, c’est une figure du silence confinant à l’oubli qui domine, qu’on pourrait associer au “mensonge collectif” (A. Sayad). À partir des années 1980, une seconde figure correspond aux luttes pour la reconnaissance de la génération des premiers héritiers. Cette figure bute néanmoins sur les limites de la reconnaissance qui relèvent à la fois des résistances de la société française et des formes d’oubli de cette génération. Enfin, depuis la fin des années 1990, une troisième figure se fonde sur l’expérience d’une nouvelle génération dont le travail de mémoire et les mobilisations participent de “ruptures postcoloniales” au sein de la société française.
Given the pervasiveness of employee silence, this article explores different forms of employee silence and silence antecedents. In particular, this article classifies employee silence using two ...dimensions: the target’s solicitation and the employee’s decision basis of conscious silence desirability. Drawing on relevant literature, it is proposed that employee silence can be classified into three distinct forms: unsolicited predetermined employee silence, unsolicited issue-based employee silence, and solicited target-based employee silence. When considering antecedents of employee silence, we claim that unsolicited predetermined employee silence is an outcome of personality traits, that unsolicited issue-based employee silence is triggered by functional motives, and that solicited target-based employee silence is determined by social relationships and relational experiences. By investigating forms of employee silence, this article provides important implications for theory and managerial practice.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how workplace bullying mediates between workplace conflict and employee silence (acquiescent, quiescent, and pro-social silence). Data was collected from ...430 employees of service-sector companies (IT and ITES). Structural equation modeling using bootstrap technique was applied for data analysis. The findings of this study confirm that workplace bullying partially mediates the relationship between workplace conflict and the three types of employee silence. The implications of this research work are beneficial for organizations in order to fathom the silence behavior of employees that arises due to conflict and bullying at workplace. Management should discourage any signs of conflict, curb bullying, and at the same time encourage the employees to raise their voices against their problems in a formal way.
This Open access book is a collection of essays and offers an in-depth analysis of silence as an aesthetic practice and a textual strategy which paradoxically speaks of the unspoken nature of many ...inconvenient hidden truths of Irish society in the work of contemporary fiction writers. The study acknowledges Ireland’s history of damaging silences and considers its legacies, but it also underscores how silence can serve as a valuable, even productive, means of expression. From a wide range of critical perspectives, the individual essays address, among other issues, the conspiracies of silence in Catholic Ireland, the silenced structural oppression of Celtic Tiger Ireland, the recovery of silenced stories/voices of the past and their examination in the present, as well as millennial disaffection and the silencing of vulnerability in today’s neoliberal Ireland. The book ’s attention to silence provides a rich vocabulary for understanding what unfolds in the quiet interstices of Irish writing from recent decades. This study also invokes the past to understand the present and, thus, demonstrates the continuities and discontinuities that define how silence operates in Irish culture.
