The purpose of the study presented in this paper is to identify and evaluate the preferences and attitude of consumers when it comes to spending vacations in tourist resorts in Romania, respectively ...of knowledge of tourist demand. The study involves direct research, by applying an occasional survey-type survey, in order to discover if there was a demand for spending holidays in Romania, in the last two years and what is the type of resort preferred by Romanian tourist. At the same time, we identified the frequency of going on vacation, the preferred sources of information and the main motivations for spending a vacation in Romania, the main criteria in choosing a tourist accommodation structure, the preference for buying tourist services, the degree of satisfaction and the satisfaction regarding the offer and prices, and the minimum sum of money reserved for a trip in a tourist resort in Romania.
Tourism slogan is an important part of destination branding and marketing. This study uncovers the mechanism of tourism slogans on travel intention based on USP theory. Study 1 utilizes a content ...analysis to quantify China's 5A-class tourist resorts' slogans by applying USP (Unique Selling Proposition) criteria. Study 2 tests a moderated mediation model to explain the mechanism of tourism slogans' effectiveness measured by these USP levels. Results show that slogans' USP levels have a significant positive effect on travel intention through mental imagery, and this relation is moderated by fantasy proneness. Findings provide useful insights for practice and future research.
We investigated how people's recreational activities, values, and land use preferences are related to the protection level, biodiversity and cultural heritage values of nature-based tourism areas in ...northern Finland. We assessed peoples' opinions using a public participation geographic information system (PPGIS) and analyzed the data together with spatial biodiversity and cultural heritage data from the same area. Associations between the PPGIS place markings with the protection level and biodiversity values were quite low, and for the cultural heritage sites they were altogether missing. Negative preferences were often marked in areas with high numbers of sites rated as pleasant and they overlapped with each other, indicating conflicting preferences. Since most activities are not noticeably related to the protection level or biodiversity values of a site they can be planned so as to protect the biodiversity of the area.
•We merged PPGIS data with spatial biodiversity and cultural heritage data in a nature-based tourism area.•Associations between PPGIS markings with protection level and biodiversity were low and for cultural heritage missing.•Negative preferences towards tourism, protection and forestry often overlapped, indicating conflicting preferences.•Since most activities were not related to protection level or biodiversity they can be placed to protect biodiversity.•Differences between opinions among respondents can be used to manage the area to fulfil the needs of various users.
Tourist numbers in northern Fennoscandia outweigh those in other northern boreal - arctic regions, which creates a specific need to evaluate the impacts of tourism. This review 1) identifies patterns ...and trends in the vegetation and wildlife of northern Fennoscandian terrestrial ecosystems as a consequence of tourism and recreation, 2) discusses the implications of findings in terms of the intensity, area and magnitude of impacts, changing climate and management needs under increasing tourist pressure, and 3) identifies research gaps. The reviewed studies show negative environmental and biodiversity impacts that are most pronounced near tourist resorts. The most sensitive plants, birds and mammals decline or disappear from the disturbed sites, and the species composition shifts from ‘wild’ species to cultural and human associated species. There is little research on the spread of alien species, but the few examples show that alien species can be promoted by tourism activities. Impacts of the use of motorized vehicles have not been widely studied either, despite the extensive track network which can cause disturbance to wildlife. The integrated impacts of tourism and climate change on the vegetation and wildlife was not addressed directly in any of the reviewed studies. In addition, little research has been done on carrying out restoration at tourist areas. Scientific research on these topics is needed to prevent, minimize or restore the most negative ecological impacts of tourism and recreation.
•Direct impacts of tourism on the environment and biodiversity are negative.•Species composition shifts from ‘wild’ to cultural and human associated species.•Vegetation recovery may take decades and permanent shifts may occur.•The impact of tourist resorts on biodiversity overrules that of other tourism types.•Integrated research on tourism and climate change is needed.
Social, environmental, and technical factors must be combined to solve the complex problem of ever-growing municipal solid waste (MSW) and minimize its negative impact on the environment. Saudi ...Arabia has launched a US$13 billion tourism strategy to transform the Asir region into a year-round tourist destination and has pledged to welcome 10 million local and foreign visitors by 2030. The estimated share of Abha-Khamis will increase to 7.18 million tons of household waste per year. With a gross domestic product (GDP) of USD 820.00 billion by the end of 2022, Saudi Arabia can no longer afford to neglect the issue of waste production and its safe disposal. In this study, to account for all factors and evaluation criteria, a combination of remote sensing, geographic information systems and an analytical hierarchy process (AHP) was used to determine the best locations for municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal in Abha-Khamis. The analysis revealed that 60% of the study area consists of faults (14.28%), drainage networks (12.80%), urban (11.43%), land use (11.41%) and roads (8.35%), while 40% of the suitable area for landfill. Of these, a total of 20 sites ranging in size from 100 to 595 ha are distributed at reasonable distances from the cities of Abha-Khamis, which meet all the critical criteria for suitable landfill sites mentioned in the literature. Current research shows that the use of integrated remote sensing, GIS and the AHP-GDM approach significantly improves the identification of land suitability for MSW management.
Tourist resorts stand out as a focal point in the academic discourse on tourism, garnering significant attention within the tourism academic community. Assessing the efficiency of these resorts ...serves as a crucial tool for steering their management strategies, optimizing resource allocation, and contributing to regional economic development. This study centers on tourist resorts in Jiangsu Province, employing the data envelopment analysis method to gauge their tourism efficiency. The research delves into the impact of decomposing the efficiency of tourist resorts and investigates the spatiotemporal dynamic patterns of various efficiencies. Key findings indicate that: (1) The overall tourism efficiency of tourist resorts in Jiangsu Province registers as low, with an average of only 0.119, signaling ample room for improvement towards optimal levels. Among different efficiencies, scale efficiency exhibits the highest average value, followed by pure technical efficiency, with comprehensive efficiency ranking the lowest. (2) The comprehensive efficiency of tourist resorts in Jiangsu Province is influenced by the combined effects of various decomposition efficiencies. Notably, pure technical efficiency plays a more substantial role in overall efficiency compared to scale efficiency. (3) Spatial differentiation in efficiency values is evident among tourist resorts in Jiangsu Province. High-efficiency areas, particularly the southern Jiangsu region, display concentrated clusters, emphasizing a pronounced agglomeration of scale efficiency. In contrast, the central and northern regions of Jiangsu witness a rising number of tourist resorts demonstrating pure technical efficiency and high overall efficiency. (4) Over the research period, the focus of various efficiency factors in tourist resorts shifted towards the north, albeit without significant deviation. Simultaneously, the standard deviation ellipse area of various efficiencies exhibits a general trend of expansion. Drawing from these research outcomes, the article recommends practical measures such as enhancing the diversity of vacation resort services, establishing interactive mechanisms, and attracting management talent. These suggestions aim to provide actionable guidance for the development of tourist resorts, contributing to their sustained growth and success.
Tourism is one of the most important "industries" in the world, both in terms of its contribution to GDP and also job creation. In many areas and countries of the world, seaside tourism has been ...developing rapidly in the last decades and, for many countries, it represents a very important economic activity. The coastal areas are facing more or less severe effects of the coastal erosion. Significant beach areas disappear annually, under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors. Therefore, actions to restore, protect and expand the beaches are needed. In Romania, there is an ongoing development on widening the beaches, but, although those works are urgently needed, there are many tourist dissatisfactions regarding the exaggerated width of the newly extended beaches, the quality of the sand, etc. The purpose of this paper is to raise awareness on finding a correct balance between coastal erosion protection works and tourism demands.
The purpose of this paper is to promote the treatment tourism, cultural-religious tourism, historical and recreational tourism, as main forms of tourism in Cacica. In the structure of the paper, ...first we analyze the theme regarding the tourist offer and the tourist effect of the Cacica Salt in the local economy. Secondly, we analyze and interpret the results obtained by applying a questionnaire to tourists from Cacica, tourists who have benefited from the services provided by economic agents who are providing services. The paper highlights the fact that tourism acts by its nature, both on the tourists directly and on the population in the isolated areas. The research analyzes some elements considered as decisive for the presence of tourists in Cacica, as well as the quality of the services they benefit from. By analyzing the tourist objectives, the events that take place on certain "holidays", it is assumed that the tourism contributes to a great extent of the economic and social development of Cacica, to the improvement of the living standard of the population in this area and to its recognition at national and international level. The study shows that the tourist demand leads to an adjustment of the offer, which materializes, among other things, in the development of the technical-material base of this sector and, indirectly, in stimulating the production of the branches participating in the construction and equipping of the accommodation and food, roads, the realization of transport means, recreational facilities. The documentation shows that tourists are motivated to choose the tourist resort of Cacica as a recreational, business and spiritual food for the soul. The natural, economic and social cultural environment, as well as the infrastructure, age, gender and education, are factors that influence the development of medical, religious and agrotourism.
Inspired by several international experiments, in particular French and Spanish, the Society for the Development and Promotion of Taghazout Resort (SAPST) engaged in an approach of sustainable ...development with an aim of preserving the natural resources, to respect and develop the sociocultural authenticity of the Souss-Massa region and to promote energy efficiency. The SAPST chose to set up a system of environmental management combining three approachs of certification: the High Environmental Quality building (HQE) certification; the Quality, Safety at Work and Environment (QSE) certification and the Green Globe certification. In this proposal, we would try to follow the evolution of these approachs of certification since the year 2012 until currently to understand this passion for the environment and to check if it is a question of a real attempt of repairing the damage caused by the tourist activity over the era of naturalness of the project of the Taghazout resort or of a simple operation of “green marketing”, which would be only the concretization of an entrepreneurial approach, a kind of environmental ethics which would hide a green business.
