  • A simplified method for calibration of strain measurements using digital image correlation [Elektronski vir]
Zobec, Peter, 1990- ; Klemenc, Jernej
Many techniques of strain measurement exist. In this paper we employed a two-dimensional, single camera digital image correlation to measure strains on a flat laboratory specimen similar to compact ... tension specimen used in fracture mechanic. Single camera measurement is inclined to give misleading results, therefore this paper proposes a simplified calibration method. Extensometer of known uncertainty is used as a calibrator on a dogbone specimen, which is loaded uniaxially. At incremental strains and by assumption that strains are homogeneous in the direction of loading, consecutive images were captured by single camera digital image correlation procedure. Calculated strains were directly compared to strains obtained by extensometer to derive a calibration function, which is used to correct the actual strain measurement on the surface of modified compact specimen.
