Uniformity of the traffic control and management on Slovenian motorways - a combination of intelligent transport systems

In accordance with the National Motorway Construction Programme and the partnership between DARS (motorway company in the Repub- lic of Slovenia), CONNECT (a project to coordinate and stimulate in- ...novative ITS activities in Central and Eastern European countries) and CORVETTE (a project to recognise the importance of ITS in making better use of road networks and providing information to the European traveller) regional control centres with management and control equip- ment have been built in Kozina and Vransko, Slovenia. DARS plans to build at last one more modern regional centre in Ljubljana, where the national control centre would be situated in the future. This national centre will connect all the regional centres, and facilitate effective co-operation with other countries (Italy, Austria, Croatia and Hungary), which would hopefully optimise traffic management, especially in case of traffic peaks and major emergencies, such as accidents on the Pan- European transport corridors (corridors V and X).
