Dugonik, Bogdan ; Debevc, Matjaž ; Brezočnik, Zmago
Deaf people have several problems in communicating with hearing people. Usually, they have a lot of problems even with such, for hearing people simple tasks, as understanding the written language. ... However, deaf people are very skilled in using the sign language equals to a word in a written language. Similar, a sentence in a written language equals to a sequence of gestures in a sign language. VISIOCOM is a project which supports the tutors of deaf people with the knowledge, how to use advance technologies, for instance videoconferencing technology. In this paper, we will explain the difficulty in a learning process (especially technical problems) of disabled people. With some examples we show one possibility of presenting the learning subject, a video supported learning. The article also introduces a procedure of non-linear editing and the video conversion procedure for fast and efficient transmission via the Internet. Two different types of a learning material within VISIOCOM project are presented - a web interface, which includes different streaming video implementation experiments, mostly for testing purposes, and the final expanded version of learning material available on multimedia CD.
