Tourism demand, green energy supply and sustainable development [Elektronski vir]

This paper analyzes synergies between tourism and green electricity supply, environmental and sustainable local development. The overnight stays of tourist have the positive effects on the ...electricity demands in the middle electricity power supply in Slovenia. We focus particularly on the Bohinj's tourist destination in Slovenia, where the renewable hydro sources are significant element for tourism development, green hydro-electricity supply in this tourist destination, and for sustainable local development. The seasonality in the hydrological and weather conditions is causing also the seasonality in the tourism economy and in green hydro-electricity supply. The tourist overnight stays in the Bohinj's tourist destination are concentrated during the summer period. We have also found that not only synergies, but also trade-offs and substitution effects between the green hydro-electricity supply and tourism development are important as an issue for sustainable water resource use, water and environment management to assure sustainable tourism and local economy development.
