Cyberbullying, 2014, 2015-08-11Book Chapter
This chapter discusses several general strategies to prevent or reduce cyberbullying in schools and workplaces: acceptable use policies (AUPs), technological strategies, anonymous reporting systems, and counseling services in schools. As concerns about misuse of technology emerged, efforts to find technological solutions followed close behind. The easiest technological strategy may be installing filter software, programs that allow the computer owner (or parent) to control the type of content that is displayed, to block certain sites, and to require passwords for use. Schools and organizations should have well‐crafted AUPs and anonymous reporting systems that are constructed by various stakeholders (students, teachers, parents, administrators, community members, supervisors, managers, employees from different levels or divisions), and counselors can take the leadership role in initiating this process. PSAs can keep attention on the AUP and can be helpful to remind users of the dangers of cyberbullying.
