  • A "Rehabilitation of Eros"
    Fidyk, Alexandra

    Jung journal, 10/2009, Volume: 3, Issue: 4
    Journal Article

In response to Marie-Louise von Franz's last public lecture, "C. G. Jung's Rehabilitation of the Feeling Function in Our Civilization," the author responds to Jung's call to develop a differentiated relatedness through the retelling of the Greek myth of Eros' birth in Plato's Symposium. This example of love is a more subtle, complex, and inclusive interpretation of er's than contemporary renderings. Such redress advances the "rehabilitation of Eros" (von Franz 2008, 18) and offers a striking image of differentiated feeling, particularly in the context of pedagogy and ethics.
