  • The effect of corona treatment on the surface properties of wool fabric [Elektronski vir]
Fakin, Darinka ; Ojstršek, Alenka ; Čelan Benkovič, Sonja
Corona treatment is a contemporary alternative process for the surface treatment of wool against felting using a low-temperature plasma, where the environmental air is used as reaction gas. The aim ... of this research was to investigate the effect of plasma on the chemical and morphological changes of a wool fabricćs surface using several analyses methods, such as polyelectrolyte titration, X-ray Photoelectronic Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and analysis of electro-kinetic properties (Zeta potential). The results show that the amount of oxygen, nitrogen and polar groups (>C=O, -COOH, -OH, etc.) are higher for Corona modified wool in comparison to untreated wool, which influences hydrophylity and sorption properties. The Corona/plasma treatment is an environmentally-friendly process, because no chemical products are involved.
