  • On the technology roadmapping based development of the new order-picking technology RF kinetic
    Gajšek, Brigita, 1974- ...
The paper presents an application of technology roadmapping methodology in logistics area for the development of the new order-picking technology named RF Kinetic. Special emphasis will be placed on ... technology roadmapping and RF Kinetic. This is significant because the combination of technology roadmapping and development of the new technology has not yet been accepted by the engineering practice. Technology roadmapping is a tool for new technology development and planning, taking into consideration the market drivers, customer needs and internal drivers of business system on warehouse management. In this paper we will concentrate on low-level and high-level, picker-to-parts order picking systems employing order pickers. RF Kinetic, which combines complementary technologies of voice and RFID can reduce costs, increase productivity and decrease the influence of the human factor. RFID provides direct verification of selected items as they pass into the range of a reader's signal and automatic data capture. It has been proven that voice applications in distribution centres significantly increase worker accuracy, productivity and job satisfaction. A wearable RFID reader integrated with voice moves the captured and verified data directly to the point of work and replaces manual operations such as written record reading or barcode scanning. Possible impacts of mentioned technological innovation on order-picking system will also be mentioned. We even expect that the proposed technology will be the most probable improvement of existing technologies used in order-picking systems with human picker.
