  • High efficient sorption cycles using CaO/H20 and LiBr/H20 for gas cooling
    Cerkvenik, Boštjan ...
In this paper three-stage cascading sorption cycles are proposed, consisting of a bottoming double-effect machine working with LiBr/water and a topping solid-gas machine working with CaO/water. A ... cooling COP as high as 1.8 is expected, which presents improvement of about 45% compared to industrial double-effect LiBr/H2O chillers. The power density of the topping cycle is crucial for the total system economics and depends on the heat and mass transfer mainly during the chemical reaction. For a better understanding of the chemical process and the transport mechanisms, measurements on a small scale solid sorption experimental device have been made. The heat transfer has been intensified with the use of a graphite matrix. For studying the mass transfer, measurements with different structures of a graphite matrix with CaO have been conducted.
