  • Electrochemcial and structural differences between Li2FeSiO4 polymorphs [Elektronski vir]
    Dominko, Robert ...
Li2FeSiO4 has attracted a lot of interest recently as a possible cheap positive electrode material for the large scale Li-ion batteries due to its potential high theoretical capacity and abundance of ... silicon and iron. The structure of Li2FeSiO4 consists of slightly distorted close packed oxygen slabs between which cations occupy only tetrahedral sites. Based on the synthesis parameters, Li2FeSiO4 compounds crystallize within different crystallographic structures (polymorphs) [1-5]. The difference in the structure between Li2FeSiO4 polymorphs is based on the interconnection of lithium and iron tetrahedron and on their orientation. Those small differencesin the structures affect the position of the electrochemical potential in the first cycle and can be correlated with strength of the Fe-O bond. Additionally, we will present how small differences in the local environment of lithium and iron can be detected by Li MAS NMR spectroscopy andM?auer spectroscopy, what has a special importance when nanosized materialsis used for the electrochemical characterization.
